I was raised Christian but never really bonded with Jesus.

this made me think of glue or adhesive.
We usually like to choose the glue we think is best for us to create the desired bond. We either go by what we think or the advice of others or perhaps the writing on the packet.
If i may suggest to you, my friend, it appears you are keen to bond with Jesus which is good, very very good. What i would like you to know is that, as keen as you ever are, He is keener and better still, He provides the glue, the adhesive.
I might also suggest to you that He is that glue, He is the One Who does the bond, the binding.
Look to Christ and Him crucified and allow your heart and mind to be melted by His love for you, that He may apply the needed bonding agent into your life, between Him and you.
If you find yourself needing to repent and confess, do so without delay. It might be liked to how we are instructed to ensure that both surfaces are clean before apply adhesive. Harden not your hearts, we are told, and for you, allow your heart to be in His hands to make you the man He wants you to be , in Him and bonded in His love, eternally, by His grace.
