I am going to give a list of "requirements" that I have come up with, on what you need to do to be a Christian.
(All of this is based off of what I think the scriptures mean)
1. Jesus Fulfilled the Law- Mt 5:17-20
•This is saying to me that because Jesus fulfilled the Law and because he is the Word of God, (Revelation 19:13, John 1:1) we must be prepared to listen to him, and when we do listen to Jesus we ourselves will be fulfilling the old Law.
2. Keep the Commandments- Mt 5:21-48
•Jesus looks at the root of the problem, he takes what was once said and asks us to look at our Spirit, where are we coming from?
3. Giving to the Needy- Mt 6:1-4
•We must not boast about our secrets, because at the end of the day when/if we get to heaven, we will have no reward from God when we get there, simply because we wanted our reward to be from men. Let our Heavenly Father reward us.
4. Prayer- Mt 6:5-13
•We must keep the conversations that we have with God in secret, he says "do not be like the hypocrites for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on street corners to be seen by men". So in other words, keep it secret, unless you don't want a reward from God.
5. Fasting- Mt 6:16-18
•Again don't be like the hypocrites, for they want to be seen by men, rather than to be seen by God.
6. Treasures- Mt 6:19-24
•Don't store up pointless treasures (cars, houses, jewelry) but keep you treasures in heaven. (See [HASH=1469]#3&4[/HASH])
7. A tree and it's Fruit- Mt 7:15-23
•You will be able to tell where someone's heart is by their fruit, you will also be able to tell where your heart is as well. Take heed to this parable.
8. The Wise and the Foolish- My 7:24-27
•The wise builders are those who hear Jesus speak and then do the things he says. The foolish are the ones who don't do what Jesus says, instead, they ignore it and say "that's not what Jesus meant".
9. Forgiveness- Mt 6:14-15
•Basically if you want to be forgiven of your sins by God, then you better be prepared to forgive your aunt Trudy who didn't get you the Christmas present you wanted.
10. Do not worry- Mt 6:25-34
•God will provide for you and your family. Jesus even says so himself, if you don't believe that then you need to question if you even really believe Jesus.
**Read the four Gospels and determine if you are listening to the Holy Spirit or not, (John 14:26, John 16:13-14)
**If we really want to be saved from everlasting fire, then we must be willing to listen to Jesus and be prepared to do anything that he asks us to do.
Let the Holy Spirit guide us, let Jesus speak, let's hope we listen.
