Depends on what you consider a christian, I have attended church for most of my whole life, I have believed in Jesus as long as I can remember. I am now 55 years old, but I did not get changed and freed from the enslavement of sin until about 2015 I say about because it was a process not a exact moment, this is when I became a born again believer and new creation. how about you??
I am still enslaved to sin, as are you. Do you honestly believe you are no longer a slave of sin?
Sin is linked to free will and we never lose free will, so we will be battling with obedience vs disobedience to God for all eternity.
There is certainly a huge leap forward in the control sin has over us when we are saved. I can easily say 'no' to mortal sins and have strength to fight venial sins. All from a love and desire to serve God.
Example, when we fully grasp that God laid His life down for us, we should have our hearts broken in gratitude and with the Holy Spirit by our side, the presence of God in our lives makes us 'super' aware of sins. As such we are certainly free from a lot of bondage...but not all. Paul is crystal clear that he still battled with sins Rom 7:15, but we all know he did not go anywhere near the mortal sin of killing Christians.
Remember in heaven, angels are not perfect like God. That is why we will judge them 1 Cor 6:3. Us to, we will never be perfect like God. Which means there will be many occasions when God ''asks'' us to do X and we choose to do Y. That can be seen as a type of disobedience / sin.
We need to grasp this properly because when we do we see that the devil sunk to a depth of sin and rebellion beyond other angels. We see this with the people of Sodom, when scripture says their ''sins were great'' Gen 18:20 "Then the LORD said, 'The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous'' and Jude 1:7.
Now that moment we get on our knees and truly repent of our sins is the moment God sees a depth of intent '''toward'' Him. Depth of intent for sin got the devil removed. Depth of intent for repentance, is us truly drawing close to God James 4:8, prompting the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus as Lord to us 1 Cor 12:3, the time we are saved from sin and can enter eternal life. OSAS.
The messages people teach of working for your salvation / 'being' saved or God cherry picking those whom He will regenerate are from the devil. The latter more so.
