Is it a sin to read the bible?

This is my question currently.

How would it be a sin when we are exhorted in 2 Timothy 2:15: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

Know God by knowing HIS word, for HIS word is truth.

Blessings.

I beg your pardon Bob, but I find that remark really offensive. I am not denigrating God's word one iota. I KNOW the Bible is God's word and I am born again and Spirit filled and read my bible. You are another person who either hasn't read all the posts or you have completely misunderstood them. Without God there would be no bible. He is first, He is the PRIORITY. Do you get it now? I suppose not so I'm wasting my energy with this thread.

YOU SAID: "Nothing is more important then spending time with God and even reading your bible can sometimes be a hindrance to that."
If THAT isn't denigration, I don't know what is.

In order to clarify to those who seem to have got hold of the wrong of the stick in my posts can I ask people what they would do if they found themselves without a bible for a week or two.?

Well -- I talk with God through praying quite often. I also have a Bible sitting next to my computer as I sit here typing. When we used to go on trips -- I'd have one with me.

You'd commented that at one point you'd been hospitalized for a while and couldn't have one? Being in a hospital usually means from a car accident or illness -- normally a person isn't going to feel well enough to read Anyway. I know I didn't. I was on meds that had me goopy-headed. And, yes, God Is always with us. The Holy Spirit Does minister to us. But as soon as I'm Able to read , I Do read God's Word.

You were strongly suggesting that a person doesn't need to be reading God's Word -- that God, Himself, is really all we need. And that is what 'we'd disagree with.

I read my bible every day. I am in no was suggesting that we don't need to read our bibles.

I was in hospital from a suspected stroke but I wasn't at all 'goopy-headed'. I didn't have my bible but I did have God. And that time was like a retreat when I felt really close to God and felt like I was meant to be there and I felt closer than ever before even though I wasn't able to read my bible. God was there. When I got home I felt so close to God that I spent long periods in my room just reading my bible. By the way I didn't have a stroke it was Bell's palsy which I was told would probably last for a year. I was miraculously healed the after I come home but that's another story, one which you probably wouldn't appreciate.

I feel I have been hounded because of what I have posted and that people either didn't read the full posts or chose to deliberately misunderstand. I dare say you will find fault with this latest thread too SueD.

I said 'SOMETIMES' and I stand by that. But you are choosing to deliberately misunderstand so there is no way I can clarify. My relationship with God is more important to me than my bible. Talking to him, listening to him is special and I can still have that relationship even without a bible, as I did when I was in hospital.

@Pearl B -- okay -- you've now clarified about your stay in the hospital. That you felt very close to God during that time. That is wasn't a stroke -- it was Bells Palsy -- I have heard of that. And, yes, God does heal. He heals through Dr's, as well as directly through taking tumors away.

Our relationship to God is as a result Of His Word. And it's nurtured Through His Word. That's how we grow spiritually.

And now that you Have expounded More -- we now understand what you're talking about. The more a person shares, the more other's understand. :)

I wasn't healed through a doctor though. I hadn't been taking any medications. But I was healed - miraculously.

@PearlB -- yes, I do believe you. God Does heal -- and it Is miraculously.

Many years ago a brother-in-law was on the operating table. His insides were a mess and the surgeons could not stop the bleeding. They were watching him bleed out and then watched as his insides gradually stopped bleeding.
They even commented after wards that they couldn't believe what they watched. A miracle was taking place -- Clare should never have survived that surgery.

Greetings PearlB

Praise the Lord for your healing, and for your patience in a long running question and answer session. I have patience sister but would have pulled out of the conversation long before now.
Bless you.

I too have had a stroke and have experienced Bells Polsey three times, my last one was around Christmas time. Each time has was different, more severe and less severe.

Regarding your comments, I understand what you were saying, time with God, time in your Bible. But you are with God in prayer and when reading the Bible.

My understanding of your comments, correct me if I am wrong, is that Bible reading, Bible Study, are all important to you, but you also like your time with prayer with God. Your time in hospital, without your Bible, may be surprised you as you thought you needed your all the time. Your time in hospital, could be considered as a wilderness experience, it give you time to reflect and pray to the Lord, allowing you to feel closer to him. Am I right sister?

The important thing is that we all need both, The Word is God's message to us, written down in advance, some days we may prefer more time in The Word, some days more time in prayer with the Lord. This can vary daily and doesn't matter one bit. You have already taken in The Word, you have eaten the bread of life, you have the fountains of living water, that is in you as you grow in faith; taking a quite time, without the Bible, can at times be very rewarding, you talk with God regarding what is on your heart, you have time to reflect on the scriptures you have already taken in, all this is healthy sister, very healthy.

May the good Lord Bless you abundantly.

God is able and he is faithful to those with unwavering faith. Blessings to you sister. May your health be well and your wellness stayed by the power of almighty God. Amen.

Greetings Brother Paul, Yes you 'got what I was trying to get across. When I was in hospital it felt like I was meant to be there. I had that total peace. I couldn't talk to anybody on the war because the other three ladies had all suffer strokes. Instead I lay on my bed and prayed for them; I prayed for everybody who came on that ward during the few days I was there. I prayed for the patients, the nursing staff and doctors, I prayed for the cleaners, tea ladies and dinner ladies as well as visitors. It was almost like a retreat.

I have put an account of the healing of my Bell's palsy on another thread if you'd like to read it.

Bless you sister

There are many occasions in life when we could pray and miss out due to distractions and other things we may be doing.

Up until the pandemic, my wife and myself would go to the supermarket, she would shop and I would pray for people as I went round. When it comes to check out, I never pay, I let my wife do that. ;) Instead I toddle off in my power wheelchair to the other side of check out and pray for every souls that comes into seeing distance, praying for a hundred people probably.

Since the pandemic we have not been out, last time shopping was March 2020. I am classed as risk, my wife is categories as extremely vulnerable and received letters from the Government instructing her not to go out, that has now been released from the beginning of this month but she still has to take care. In the last year we have only been out, once for the jab, twice to the vet and once to the surgery. Everything we have purchased has been online, Amazon, Sainsburys, Pharmacy2U, and myself to hospital in December due to another suspected stroke which turned out to be Bells Polsey again. Our car has only done 900 miles in 17 months!

It seems so strange now being told we can go out, but we are content, we have a small garden but enjoy looking out over it or just tinkering as much as we can do, we are just waiting for the weather to warm up.

We're a lot like you. My husband was classed as extremely vulnerable so we haven't been out since March 16th last year apart from for our winter flu jabs, covid jabs and for blood tests. We have a park across the way so we've been able to get into there and we have two long gardens so we can enjoy the sunshine outside. To be honest I have coped really well and felt a peace from the simplicity of my life. I have kept my mind active with social media, books and sewing. I'm always praying for the people I see in towns or who walk past my front windows.

We are a lot like you and your hubby sister. ;)

Following on from what you have been talking about. I agree, it is when all the influences in life are taken away, that we have time to reflect and life becomes so much more acceptable, even with the health issues, etc.

I love spring, to see the cherry tree flower in all it's glory, the daffodils, tulips and other bulbs come into flower, the forsythia flowering like a light in one corner. the azaleas etc. It is so beautiful. Then there are all the birds doing their courtship, the blackbird singing away, look at me aint I beautiful, and the cheeky squirrels. This morning was a shock to the system, -4c, the coldest night even through the winter, the tulips hung their heads in shame, some other items were damaged including a standard magnolia which is only two years old but had more flower heads this spring than last year.

We look forward to next month, planting the bedding plants and bring the garden to light with colour.

Bless you

Everyday as I walk down the garden to take the recycling to the bins I take time to look at what's new. I love to take note of the new growth in my garden, the ribes looks wonderful as does the forsythia and the camellia and magnolia are about to burst from their buds. My bird feeders are busy and need replenishing more often and the little copper leaves on my lovely acer tree are beginning to unfurl. Spring is such a lovely season both in nature and our spiritual spring season when we start to grow again after a time of 'wintering'.

Spring is my favorite season. A renaissance - a rebirth, of all that was laid dormant for a season. God is good.

It sure is PearlB, newife bursting forth everywhere. We have two acres a Red one and a green one that turn red later.

Last month we had a gardener ant two trees, a Mulberry tree and another, forget the names, they are to attract more birds into the garden.

We have only been on this bungalow a couple of years, lots of the plants are young so need time to grow and fill out.

Gid's speed
