“Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:14-18 NASB1995)

The New Testament Scriptures, under the New Covenant God has with all who believe in Christ Jesus, in truth, do not teach “Once Saved Always Saved.” They do not teach that once you make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ that your sins are all forgiven and heaven is secured you for eternity, but regardless of how you live. For Jesus taught that not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one doing (obeying) the will of God the Father. And many will hear him say, “I never knew you. Depart from me you workers of lawlessness.” (see Matthew 7:21-23).

And Jesus taught that if anyone would come after him that he must deny self, take up his cross daily (die daily to sin and to self) and follow (obey) him and his commands. For if we hold on to our lives of living in sin and for self, we will lose them for eternity. But if we deny self, die to sin, and follow Jesus in obedience, in his power, by his grace, then we have the hope of salvation and eternal life with God. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Luke 9:23-26; Romans 6:1-23).

For if we say that we are in fellowship with God (with Christ) and yet we walk (in conduct, in practice) in sin, we are liars who do not practice the truth. And if we claim that we know God, but we do not obey his commandments (New Covenant), we are liars, and the truth is not in us. For those who are righteous in the eyes of the Lord are those who, by the Spirit, put righteousness into practice in their daily lives. And all who make sin their practice are regarded as of the devil. So if righteousness is not our practice, we are not of God (see 1 John 1:5-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10).

[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]

Even though this is what is taught us in the New Testament Scriptures, with regard to faith in Jesus Christ, salvation from sin, and eternal life with God, there are people among us who are taking Scriptures out of their biblical context, and they are distorting them to make them say what they do not say if taught in the correct biblical context. And so many people are now teaching that we can just make a verbal confession of Christ as Lord and now all our sins are forgiven, and we are on our way to heaven, but while they leave out God’s requirements for death to sin and obedience to God.

But the Scriptures teach progressive salvation and sanctification, of the Spirit, by the grace of God, and in the power of God, by biblical faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, but which is gifted to us by God. And this faith is persuaded of God as to his righteousness and holiness, and of our sinfulness, and of our need to die to sin and to obey our Lord, in practice. So it will result in us being crucified with Christ in death to sin, and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as servant of God and of his righteousness, in his power.

[Matthew 10:22; Luke 9:23-26; John 8:31-32; John 15:1-12; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-24; Romans 11:17-24; Romans 13:11; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 1 Corinthians 15:1-2; Galatians 5:16-24; Philippians 2:12-13; Colossians 1:21-23; 2 Timothy 1:8-9; 2 Timothy 2:10-13; Hebrews 3:6,14-15; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 1:5,9; 2 Peter 1:5-11; 1 John 2:24-25]

Therefore, we need to be diligent to be found by God in peace, spotless, and blameless, i.e. righteous, virtuous, upright, honest, and decent. For God’s grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return (see Titus 2:11-14). And we need to be careful that we are not carried away by the error of “wolves in sheep’s clothing” who are not teaching death to sin and obedience to God as required of God for salvation. But we are to keep obeying our Lord God.

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire

To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire

Salvation is both a done deal and progressive.

Once you have received Christ as your Lord and Savior you are saved, but that does not mean you must not continue in him, for me must continue in his grace and in faith, and salvation is maintained by grace.

Tit 2:11-12
(11) For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
(12) Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and really it goes a long with what you said.

So I would agree with what you said.

If you read the noted Scriptures, they make it quite clear, not only that salvation is progressive, but that we must continue in that grace until the very end or we don't have eternal life with God. Jesus said that we are all going to stand before him in judgment, and it will not be those who called him Lord, but those who obey him, in practice, who will have eternal life with God.

May Jesus fill us with his love and wisdom

We become spotless in our love for Jesus. Our love which leads us to do the will of the Father, and our love which causes us grief when we fail to do His will. In seeking forgiveness from all sinfull behaviors, it is a daily task to follow God's will.

There are other teachings, outside of once saved, always saved that are false. "Predestination" is another along with a new teaching called the "Done" teaching.

I read the book that started it all with the "Done" teaching. He contradicted himself 2x in his own book before you get halfway through it. He States, that there is nothing that we do as Christians. Nothing at all. Now this doesn't make any sense even based on the scripture. Because we have to do a number of things the most important one is accepting Jesus.

I would even dare say that the Rapture concept is a false teaching. And I know that this one thing has been taught for the last 50 years. But if everybody would just go look at the scripture and show me one time where God takes his suffering people and removes them from the planet.

A good example is Lot. The Angels come to Lot, and tell him to pack up and get the heck out of town. And hurry up about it don't look back just go go. It's not like Lot went to the Hilton Hotel. Andy had to start his life all over again.

Not good enough example you say. Let's look at the Israelites who became the slaves of the Egyptians. They were slaves for 400 years. I guarantee being a slave during those times was worse than anything that we experience as Christians today. And yet they were not taken off planet. God sent them into the desert where they wandered for 40 years. And I can tell you right now that the Christians buy and large are as stubborn as the Israelites were at that time.

Let's go look at Noah and the Ark. You could technically say that he had gotten the farthest off planet of anyone who God removed from a situation. He got to ride the waters and landed on Mount Ararat. God saved him from a bad situation on the world with all the sin, Noah had to start over had to build another house everything.

Every single time we see God rescuing people from one situation, they are lead into another situation that are in many ways are worse.

Let us look at the new Christians, who are freed from sin and fed to the Lions.

The whole concept of the rapture is the greatest Escape or you don't have to go through the Tribulation. I got news for you you're going through it as I am.

When you guys tell me those little pieces and scripture that talk about the two people in the field and one is taken and the other one is Left Behind. The question that runs through my mind is, no one said that the person left behind wasn't a Christian too.

Too often people jump to conclusions when it comes to scriptures. You jumped the conclusions that that verse that you're reading means that everybody's going to be lifted off the planet if you're a Christian. You don't take into consideration that being a Christian means that you're humble of heart.

Where is the attitude these days where we let the other person go first. Is it only about me myself and I. That should be the first warning to everyone that believes in the rapture. If it's all about yourself, saving your own skin then it's something from the Devil

Oh I agree with that statement, you must continue with him to the end.

If you do not, then surely you will not be having eternal life in heaven.

1Th 5:23
(23) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If you do not continue in him your whole man will not be preserved blameless and you will not go to heaven, and you will lose your soul.

Joh 3:6
(6) That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

2Co 5:17
(17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

1Co 6:11
(11) And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

In Christ we are born of the Spirit, and we do have new hearts and spirits, and old things have passed away, and we are new creatures in Christ Jesus, it also says that we are sanctified and justified, but even though these things are, and we are born again, does not mean that we must not continue in Christ.

And now we must learn to walk in these things that Christ has done in us, and for us.

And yes salvation must be maintained.

So sanctification is both a done deal, and yet progressive.

In Corinthians, it mentions sanctification as a done deal, but there is a progressive aspect of the word sanctification:

1Pe 3:15
(15) But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

We must continue to sanctify him in our hearts.

And if we do not continue in him, we will lose everything he gave us.

When I say that salvation is both a done deal, and yet progressive, I am not talking about what you are saying here.

One must put their faith in God, and continue to do so.

We are the sanctified , being sanctified, and we are being conformed to his image day by day in our walk with God.

We are saved, and being saved.

And we are born of the Spirit, and in this realm we are not becoming more born again, we are born again, but we can lose what he gave us, if we do not continue in him.

When I say that salvation is both a done deal, and yet progressive, I am not talking about what you are saying here.

One must put their faith in God, and continue to do so.
I wasn't talking about anything you said when I was talking about the " Done " teaching. It was something that a preacher gave to me who was espousing the teaching. And after reading the book I told him he needs to quit with that teaching. Because it's false

Oh ok, glad you mentioned it, only because I mentioned the word done deal, in another post, so I thought you were referring to that, thanks for clarification.

May Jesus fill us with his love

I'm sorry that you took it that way, I think highly of your comments as I do with Sue.

One thing that has always stuck with me, is what a certain preacher said, in that he mentioned that we must bring our condition (our walk), up to our standing with Christ.

And of course that is a lifetime thing.

Faith

I do not know to what degree people's understanding is on the word faith, but I will mention just a few things.

Of course we know that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

When we come to the Lord, we come to him, as someone needing salvation, seeds get planted into our hearts, faith builds up, and finally we have repented of our sins, received Christ, thus placing our faith in God.

And of course we all know this.

But what happens when we are in Christ ?

Gal 2:20
(20) I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Well now we have the faith of the Son of God within us, which is with this faith that we now live our lives.

You can say that it is faith for living the Christian life.

So we mentioned faith for repentance, and now faith for living the life.

All in Christ have these things, though on the sinner coming to Christ side of things, they repent to come into the kingdom of God, but we as believers, when we sin, we repent because we are in the kingdom of God.

Now the faith that we live the Christian life with, would be referring to the fruit of the Spirit called faith.

All have that in Christ, to one degree or another.

But then there is a special gift of faith, which is mentioned in Corinthians.

1Co 12:9-11
(9) To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
(10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
(11) But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Not all believers have this special gift of faith, which tells us that it is different from the fruit of faith.

And yes both faith for living the Christian life, and this special gift of faith, are a gift.

We indeed have eternal life in Jesus right now, and are eternally secured in Him, as the ather gave us to Jesus, He died in our place for our sin debt, and we are now sealed by the Holy Spirit Himself

Eternal life

Via the bible, concerning Christians having eternal life, it is written both in present tense, and future tense.

Here is a future tense verse:

Jud 1:20-21
(20) But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
(21) Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

This was speaking to people who were already believers, and to these believers, it was said to keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

So if you keep yourself in the love of God, which is really to continue in him, one day there will be life eternal in heaven.

But even though that is true, in some fashion do we have eternal life as believers right now ?

Yes.

Here are the present tense verses:

1Jn 5:11-13
(11) And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
(12) He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
(13) These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

According to 1 John here, Christians have eternal life right now, because they have the Son, and this eternal life, is in his Son, and he that hath the Son hath this life, which is eternal life.

It cannot get any clearer than that.

And yes we must continue in grace, in Christ, to continue in this eternal life, and one day have eternal life in heaven.

We indeed have eternal life in Jesus right now, and are eternally secured in Him, as the ather gave us to Jesus, He died in our place for our sin debt, and we are now sealed by the Holy Spirit Himself
May Jesus give us his wisdom

What do you mean by that exactly?

You make the comment that we are "eternally secured in him". Does this mean that you think that you can go out and do all manner of evil, and not worry about your Eternal salvation?

May Jesus fill us with his love and wisdom

We become spotless in our love for Jesus. Our love which leads us to do the will of the Father, and our love which causes us grief when we fail to do His will. In seeking forgiveness from all sinfull behaviors, it is a daily task to follow God's will.

Bill, thank you for sharing your beliefs. You make a lot of good points, based off the Scriptures. I agree with you that the pretrib rapture is not Biblical. And I agree with you about those who teach we do nothing in love response to God, that it is not biblical. Regarding predestination, it is taught in the Scriptures along with free will, but the teaching on it has to agree with other biblical teachings in the Scriptures. And a lot of people are teaching it in antibiblical ways.

Oh I agree with that statement, you must continue with him to the end.

If you do not, then surely you will not be having eternal life in heaven.

Gerbolski,
Oh I agree with that statement, you must continue with him to the end.

Gerbolski, thank you for sharing all of that. I agree with you. But when so many people say, "done deal," their assumption is that it can never be undone by them, no matter how they live. So we need to know that the Scriptures teach progressive salvation which will not be complete until Jesus returns and he takes his faithful ones to be with him for eternity. So the Scriptures let us know that we must continue in Christ until the end in putting sin to death and in walking in obedience to God's commands or we will not inherit eternal life with God.

We indeed have eternal life in Jesus right now, and are eternally secured in Him, as the ather gave us to Jesus, He died in our place for our sin debt, and we are now sealed by the Holy Spirit Himself
Please read all the Scriptures in their correct biblical context. Begin with Matthew 7:21-23, then Luke 9:23-26, then Romans 6:1-23, and 1 John 1:5-10; 1 John 2:3-6; 1 John 3:4-10, etc.
