I am reading the NIV bible right now and was wondering what some of your favorite books are. I'm not to far in, just wondering if I should read other things first or in order. Thanks.

If you've not already done so, I would reccomend reading Mark's Gospel, it's fast moving and easy to read. Also look at Isaiah 52:13--53:12 written about 800 years before Jesus. Isaiah foretells what Jesus was to suffer for our sins.
BTW, my favourite bible books would have to be Daniel in theOld Testament, and John's Gospel in the New Testament.

Jessica, when I first came to Christ and got into the Bible I was encouraged to begin reading at the gospel of John, for it is the gospel that is most centered on the words of Jesus; what he said.I am reading the NIV bible right now and was wondering what some of your favorite books are. I followed that advice and was richly rewarded by the insights it gave me into just who he is and what he was about when he walked the earth. I suggest that you, too, start with John's gospel. Then read the other three gospels and the epistles.
Wait until you've read the entire New Testament before you tackle the Old Testament and the Book of Revelation. In my opinion, the Old Testament won't have maximum value for you until you are familiar with the New Testament and can understand a bit about how the two are related.
As to which book(s) are my favorite, I love the Book of Esther. Esther is the only book in the Bible where God is never mentioned. Yet, if you read it carefully, you can see his fingerprints in every paragraph.
