In which order should i study the Word to derive the most benefit from it?

I want to create a regular study routine for my day.

Thank you.

Greetings in the Lord,
One can only testify to what we have seen, heard, and felt; as for me I used 2 KJV's side by side and the Strong and Vines Concordanance & dictionary, along with a Webster dictionary for proper individual word understanding.
My one Bible i read from and the large coffee table Bible i used to used to cross reference scriptures.
Very important...don't lean to your own understanding...pondering the scripture God stuck in your heart and inquiring His wisdom and understanding by revelation knowledge. Wait on the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to unveil the Word of truth to you.
I started at Matthew, and ran scripture concordance to the old testament; back and forth it will take you. That is why i used 2 bibles. My small stayed right where i was reading, to pick up from where i left off. The big one was flipping reference concordance.
For me, as I dedicated every morning with prayer before I began, then reading and searching, cross referencing the Word about 6 hrs every morning, and the rest of the day walking and conversing with God; and pondering in my heart the scripture(s) that He stuck there, until I fell asleep. Next morning, same routine.
As for me, He began by teaching me how to read the Word. Pay close attention to punctuation marks. Read it, and when coming upon a punctuation mark, go back and read it the way it was meant to be read. Pay close attention to who is speaking, who are they speaking too, and in what manner are they speaking to them, thats where punctuation is very important.
Pay close attention to capital letters... capital F vs. lower case f... here is the difference referencing Father God and father on earth. Recognise the "s, S" is the same way.
Pray...not by many words, but according to the Word of God. As for me, when I came across scripture where disciples pray, or Jesus told them this is how you pray... pray that, right then, as you are seeking God, knocking on His door for true Teacher understanding, and He will lift the veil off scripture as pertaining to your journey in your walk in Him, by Him, for Him.
Remember, very important, do not lean to your own understanding. For His ways, is not our ways.
God bless you on your journey and seek.
All praise, glory and honor be unto God. Amen

Greetings @naiboy

I notice that you have only recently given your life to the Lord Jesus (Praise the Lord)

You will find that many devotionals such as Our Daily Bread also have a "Read the Bible in a Year" planner.

There are also a number of apps online for reading the Bible in a year etc

Either can be very useful to a new believer (and all believers) as it provides a simple structure to daily study.

Read carefully and prayerfully and the Lord will show you the wondrous truth found therein

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105

I did notice something this afternoon In the Book of Revelation 1: 3 it said : Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand. What I notice ,, it did not say anything about, Blesseth is he that teaches or blesseth is he that understandeth that are written here. Reading the word of God most be a good thing.❤️

Another option you might consider. I grew up with the KJV -- have found over the years that the New KJV is easier to read because it uses more up-to-date English. The King James Version was great reading in that time in history. It's the English that was used back then. The more up-to-date English is used in the New King James Version.

And, yes, Our Daily Bread devotional book is wonderful. As is Open Windows.

One thing that Scripture says is that 'we are to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ' -- we do That as we become more and more familiar With God's Word. Reading portions every day. That way you can gradually read through the entire Bible. A few chapters in Genesis and a few in Matthew every day. Continue reading book after book that way. And the Psalms and Proverbs are great books, also.

This might be useful.

It is a two year course to read the whole Bible. What I like about it is that it doesn't tell you what to think, rather it asks questions about every passage in the Bible so that you have to do the thinking yourself. Each one takes about 20 minutes.

Pray to God, ask him to show you the way!! read bible commentaries also a great website for resources "BLB" blue letter bible.com

Actually -- I'd steer Away from commentaries Until you've studied the passage for yourself First and Then compare your personal findings With the commentaries.
I say that because some years ago I was doing Precept study classes. They had us doing our own researching First and Then look at the commentaries.

Every pastor I've known has their own set of commentaries -- my late husband did as did my brother-in-law -- both went to Bible college and seminary. But their own studying came first.

I've even gotten away from Study Bibles.

Well commentaries isn't the only tool in the box its just for a person to get their foot in the door so 2 speak, speshly a newbie, just another navigation tool, yes a person also has to do their own studies as well, but saying that theirs plenty of resources online, youtube video's for one!! just to share with u my hermenutics!! I look at 1st in the bible weather the different styles of text are, historical narrative, commandments, poems psalms etc. I also look at the historical context, I look at both Hebrew and greek translations. I look at text commentary's and cross references, I look at wat other members of the body are saying, pastors, preachers. I then use induction, then logic given 2 me by God, then I listern 2 wat the holy spirit is saying!! then I come 2 my conclusion!!

I have the KJV Bible Application, which you can download and it gives you a quote from the Bible per day. It also enables you to hear a bible verse per day.

How should you study or read the “Holy Scriptures”; fall in love with them, how do you do that , by spending time in them. “Thy Word is a light unto my path and a guide for my feet”. Why? Because this is a dark world, and I need a true light to see the path because I am a stranger a pilgrim travelling through a strange land , heading for “The Celestial City” a city made not by the hands of man, I guarantee you this, It will not be a commentary there but “The Word of God” will be. Shalom, my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus Our LORD❤️

Just read it the way it's written. Just read it the way it's presented.

We spend way too much time dissecting every word.

Luke 2:8; In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
Luke 2:9; And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
Luke 2:10; But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
Luke 2:11; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:12; "This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Luke 2:13; And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
Luke 2:14; "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."
Luke 2:15; When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us."

I've heard this passage debated a dozen different ways... region - what region? Shepherds, what kind of sheep did they have?
What day of the year was it? Was there snow? Why were they frightened? Is the heavenly host simply more angels?
Was it one star or three planets converging?

None of that stuff matters.... don't think about it too hard. We can't see the forest for the trees sometimes.
Just read the story and take it how it comes to you. We spend way too much time trying to prove the science of scripture rather
than accepting the miracles of scripture. There is so much bickering amongst Bible scholars over the craziest things.

Was the serpent really a snake? Was the golden calf really gold? Just accept the Bible the way it is.
Don't try to change it, don't even try to interpret it. Don't worry about translating it from any language. All that can come later.
For now... what is the story that a certain passage is telling you? What is the meaning of the story?

Is the passage figurative, or symbolic, or literal... it doesn't always matter... but what is the point of the story?
Why is it even in the Bible. What is the story saying to you?

Ya, the passage Is in the Bible -- and the Bible Is God's Word to us. So Do read it. Amen

Agree with the above. There are some questions you can ask that help you get inside the story and get to grips with what's going on.

Who was this originally written for or spoken to? What was their situation? What does God reveal about himself? What demand and what comfort does he make of the original audience? What is surprising here?

These are all questions anyone can ask without getting scholarly.

The original question was about where to start reading the Bible. A lot of depends if you are a natural eager read. Not all of us are.

Obvious place to start is with the gospels - Jesus is the ultimate revelation of the Father, and he's centre-stage in all the gospels.

Then explore the new testament letters to see how the first believers started to live out the Jesus way.

And then you'll need to get to grips with the foundations, which are laid out in the Old Testament. Psalms, Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy Isaiah, 1 and 2 Samuel are books to turn to early, I'd say.

Then when come back to the gospels and you'll see things that completely passed you by the first time around.

Unless somebody has something wildly different to suggest?

'we' tend to make Bible reading sound like something So complex. That since it's God's Word is Has to be deep and needing Lots of research to Really understand it.
As has been previously suggested. Our Daily Bread / Open Windows are good daily devotional guides. Starting with Genesis and Matthew -- just start reading a chapter or two a day. that way a person gets through both the Old and New Testaments together. It IS important though to just keep plugging at the reading. And no one is expected to understand every single verse or paragraph. No one is being graded for their progress or understanding. And when a person has a question -- connect with your Sunday School teacher or pastor with your questions. And it's perfectly okay to Not understand at this time and move on.

The New King James works with me and some times I go to my older NIV. It's more reader-friendly.

best way IMO is to start your day with it every day the rest of your earthly life, first thing in the morning,

The scriptures is not the WORD OF GOD. The scriptures are the compilation of reported statements of THE WORD OF GOD, to mean they are the written texts and notes of APOSTLES and SENT MEN of GOD for their generation. Its really disturbing to see people treat the bible as though, it contains the totality of GOD'S word to creation.Am not saying it doesn't deserve special attention, but the picture being painted now is that, 'GOD has ceased talking to man'... Its all as though GOD has stopped talking to humanity or that, there is nothing concerning true spirituality that can be connected to, away from the physical. But what everyone has to know is that, 'THERE IS A GOD WORD FOR EVERY GENERATION'.. The fact that GOD does not repeat HIMSELF is lesson enough for the human creatures to know that, every generation needs to connect to the GOD WORD for that generation. Mind you, The WORD of GOD, is the direct statements of GOD, that can only be spoken by who GOD becomes as a revelation in presentation to creation through and by, as THE MAN OF GOD JESUS CHRIST. Every other statement, from the true Apostolic office or Sent Men of GOD, only comes to confirm by reporting or quoting the statements of the WORD OF GOD, which is known as the WORD of TRUTH or the GOSPEL. The written scriptures killeth, but its spirit (understanding) gives life... The preceding sentence might sound a a bit banal, but its with the disobedience of such principles that has caused the creatures of GOD to be starved of the true GOD statements.

Now, something that kills cannot give life, for to make you grow. 'The letter killeth' means, the raw scriptures, has not the ability to transfer the true GOD life to anyone. To mean, your faith cannot be tested anew, to authenticate your belief in GOD. This is because, you end up reading stories concerning others who have used their lives to profit the GOD system, without knowing the day to day demands, challenges and details to their lives. So, we read the stories of THE JUST MEN MADE PERFECT, and we covet them, without understanding the situational demands and details of their lives. So a lot of Christians only read the outcome and blessings of these triumphant men, without understanding the GOD tests which demanded them to lose themselves to find life in GOD.
The best one can do from reading the scriptures to try to find meanings to it, is to unravel it with their assuming minds, whilst thinking because they are of a good intention and heart, everything that pops up as an interpretation, is divine and truly from GOD. But as I personally received as a GOD WORD a year ago that 'GOOD INTENTION IS DIFFERENT FROM DOING THE RIGHT THING IN GOD', so is every creature of GOD who wishes to deal with GOD, must come to have as an understanding. 'THE SPIRIT GIVES LIFE';would come to mean that, the interpretation of the scriptures, which carries understanding to who would accept it to do instant obeisance to its demands, is that which can command the creatures of GOD in the WILL OF GOD for their lives, for them to contact the true life of GOD.

Yes! the scriptures or the Bible, is there to give information concerning the GOD happenings to everyone that cares to know, but it gives no knowledge to anyone concerning GOD. The reason why from reading it, it has not brought about the desired unity prayed for by JESUS CHRIST, but divisions of and in the Christian fraternity and the rise of many contrasting doctrines in her. But ask yourself, if the bible can be read by anyone at all to find understanding, just as any grammar book, then what is the use of the Ordained and Appointed Ministers of GOD in the church of GOD? Wouldn't a professor of English or languages, be best cut for that role? But what you normally find is a huge paradox between education and the subject of GOD. This is simply to tell you that in GOD, 'A READER OF BOOKS IS NOT A GRADUATE'. To mean, unless you are schooled or taught not by the ignorant or claiming head, but truly from GOD if not directly, concerning the things of GOD, you are one that would just as the majority, be stuck in the religious habit of pushing assumptions in GOD, whilst dead sure that you are truly pleasing GOD.

The only way one can grow spiritually in GOD, is only on the basis of doing full, total , complete and true unadulterated instant believe in practice to THE WORD OF TRUTH which is preached as the Will of GOD by the Ordained GOD Ministers, to the creatures of GOD, also known as THE GOSPEL. The only way to grow in GOD is to follow and study the leadership of GOD'S choosing, and not to reason and question their guidance of your life. I know anyone reading would be thinking, 'what about the Holy Spirit ?', and i would also ask, who is the HOLY SPIRIT? (NB; He is not a premonition, a feeling , imagination or an assumed thought)- topic for another day.

Wow, I am not a Bible scholar by any means, but I recognize gnostic and occultic inclinations when I read them.
This site is slowly being infiltrated by people whose sole aim is to corrupt the Word of God and lead people away from the true Gospel. It is happening across all Christian forums, and we must stay vigilant in order to recognize those who would wish to deceive us.
@JEKEM is one of them.

@JEKEM, who told you the Bible is not the Word of God? Didn't Jesus himself tell us that man cannot live on bread alone but through every Word that proceedeth from God? Jesus is a part of the Holy Trinity, come to earth in human form to save us from eternal damnation. The Bible states in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Luke 11:28 "He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
Isaiah 40:8 " The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever."
John 7:16 "Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.”
Psalm 107:20 "He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave."

"Yes! the scriptures or the Bible, is there to give information concerning the GOD happenings to everyone that cares to know, but it gives no knowledge to anyone concerning GOD. Wouldn't a professor of English or languages, be best cut for that role? But what you normally find is a huge paradox between education and the subject of GOD." ---This is a lie. All Christians should study the Word of God for themselves, and come to a full knowledge of Christ in their lives. This should not be left to "a professor of English or languages." The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

"The scriptures is not the WORD OF GOD. The scriptures are the compilation of reported statements of THE WORD OF GOD, to mean they are the written texts and notes of APOSTLES and SENT MEN of GOD for their generation. Its really disturbing to see people treat the bible as though, it contains the totality of GOD'S word to creation." -----This is an outright falsehood. You are comparing the Gospels to the Talmud and Kabbalah. The Bible states in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 "And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe."

"The only way one can grow spiritually in GOD, is only on the basis of doing full, total , complete and true unadulterated instant believe in practice to THE WORD OF TRUTH which is preached as the Will of GOD by the Ordained GOD Ministers, to the creatures of GOD, also known as THE GOSPEL." ---here you are advocating salvation by works, while the Bible teaches that Christ already completed the work on the cross. We are saved by grace and faith, not by works as taught in other religions. In any case, the only way to know the Word of Truth is to read it for yourself, and not to leave it to a minister to explain to you. The Bible states Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. "
Romans 11:6 "But it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace."
Galatians 2:16 "Nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified."

"Yes! the scriptures or the Bible, is there to give information concerning the GOD happenings to everyone that cares to know, but it gives no knowledge to anyone concerning GOD." --- this is a lie. The Bible states in Jeremiah 29:12-14 "Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and places to which I have banished you, declares the LORD. " Why would God make such a statement if it is impossible to know Him from His word?

" Now, something that kills cannot give life, for to make you grow. 'The letter killeth' means, the raw scriptures, has not the ability to transfer the true GOD life to anyone. To mean, your faith cannot be tested anew, to authenticate your belief in GOD. This is because, you end up reading stories concerning others who have used their lives to profit the GOD system, without knowing the day to day demands, challenges and details to their lives." ----what blasphemy! You are saying that the Word of God kills and cannot give life! John 6;63 states that "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life."

" So, we read the stories of THE JUST MEN MADE PERFECT, and we covet them, without understanding the situational demands and details.."
---this is highly occultic teaching, in which occultists are taught that they can also ascend to "godhood" if they practice their rituals and Kabbala or whatever. It is the aim of every ritualist and Luciferian to become like the Most High, since they cannot worship the true Creator. It is a thorough deception.

" The only way one can grow spiritually in GOD, is only on the basis of doing full, total , complete and true unadulterated instant believe in practice to THE WORD OF TRUTH which is preached as the Will of GOD by the Ordained GOD Ministers, to the creatures of GOD, also known as THE GOSPEL. The only way to grow in GOD is to follow and study the leadership of GOD'S choosing, and not to reason and question their guidance of your life." ---here you are saying that we should not read the Bible for ourselves and should instead leave it to a "leader" to interpret it for us. No thank you. I WILL READ MY BIBLE FOR MYSELF. I desire to know God's will for my life. It is only tyrannical rulers who would wish to keep the people from studying the Word of God themselves. These include those who would wish to keep the Bible away from the masses in the coming New World Order.

"This is simply to tell you that in GOD, 'A READER OF BOOKS IS NOT A GRADUATE'. To mean, unless you are schooled or taught not by the ignorant or claiming head, but truly from GOD if not directly, concerning the things of GOD, you are one that would just as the majority, be stuck in the religious habit of pushing assumptions in GOD, whilst dead sure that you are truly pleasing GOD." --- I repeat, I will study the Gospel for myself and do what it teaches. I refuse to be misled by you into thinking that I cannot read the Word because I am not a "graduate".

"Every other statement, from the true Apostolic office or Sent Men of GOD, only comes to confirm by reporting or quoting the statements of the WORD OF GOD, which is known as the WORD of TRUTH or the GOSPEL. The written scriptures killeth, but its spirit (understanding) gives life." ---again you are saying that the Word of God kills! Where did you get that from? The Bible states in Proverbs 2:6 "For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding."

"The only way to grow in GOD is to follow and study the leadership of GOD'S choosing, and not to reason and question their guidance of your life. I know anyone reading would be thinking, 'what about the Holy Spirit ?', and i would also ask, who is the HOLY SPIRIT? (NB; He is not a premonition, a feeling , imagination or an assumed thought)" --- This is a lie. The Bible states in Ephesians 3:17-19 "So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God." One cannot grow to a full understanding of Christ without reading the Word.

@JEKEM I think you are here to corrupt and deceive the new Christians and have them believe falsehoods about not reading the Bible for themselves. But Glory to God! We shall continue encouraging all new Christians (me included) to read the Bible and practice what it says, and not leave it to a teacher or ordained person to interpret it for them. Teaching helps, but reading the Word for oneself is highly encouraged.

Please, I highly encourage you to stop deceiving the children of God by using many words with hidden occultic messages in them. I am also praying for you to see the full, complete truth that is in Christ Jesus our salvation and come to know Him yourself.
