[h=3]1 Peter 1:13-17[/h]King James Version (KJV)

13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

[h=3]A Future in God[/h]13-16 So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”
17 You call out to God for help and he helps—he’s a good Father that way. But don’t forget, he’s also a responsible Father, and won’t let you get by with sloppy living.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

<o:p> </o:p>

13 We are to be alert and focus on the Lord’s will for us.We have the hope of life given to us thru Christ dying by grace. We have theblessing of having Jesus revealed to us as Lord and Savior.

<o:p> </o:p>

14 We are made children of the Father thru our relationshipwith Christ. We are adopted as sons and daughters of the Father. We are to beobedient to what the Lord wants from us: He is to be our Master. We are not tolive anymore as those of the world but follow after Him.

<o:p> </o:p>

15 We are made holy by the blood thru His calling. We areact holy because we represent Him, and He is most holy.

<o:p> </o:p>

16 There are none holier than Him. If we live as the worlddoes, we are not showing His holiness thru our life but hiding the light.

<o:p> </o:p>

17 Man will be judged for what he does and. He stands nochance, this is why we need Christ’s forgiveness so, and we will not be judgedbut, made holy thru Him.

Very good! In addition, I think there is also a practical application that has to do with transforming yourself by the renewing of your mind. Can anyone doubt the mind has a sort of loins? No man should doubt this. So I see this as speaking to an area or quality of one’s thought life. That as new born babes in Christ we need to “gird up” these lust based thoughts (not only sexual ones…lusts of the eyes and lusts of the flesh).

Where we learn about girding is in Paul’s discussion of the Armor…we put on the girdle of truth (read John 17:17). This is put on around our other loins but serves a good metaphorical lesson. The outerwear for a soldier on those days was a tunic like garment that if left free flowing would blow this way and that way with every gust of wind. If being observed one from the outside can never really see the form of the true person, it is deceptive. Plus for the soldier, if caught unawares and jumping into battle, it would get in the way of their shield and sword. This outer garment is like a person of the world’s outer personality, changing with every doctrine that comes along, hiding the inner man, their ethics and actions being dependent or determined by the situation.

God does not want us to be like this. He wants the new inner man to be visible…we are His epistles…we are the light of the world (why hide it under a basket). So when we gird our outermost person with the word of truth we can then utilize our shield and sword more effectively. Therefore, cast down every imagination that exalts itself contrary to or against the truth…as soon as the imagination produces the thought (be it a greedy thought, a perverse thought, a coveteous thought, etc.,) get it right then and bring it into captivity to Christ. After a while, by yielding these to the Spirit, He will grow us up into maturity.

Just a thought

Brother Paul
