[h=3][/h][h=3]2 Peter 1:5-7[/h][h=3]King James Version (KJV)

[/h]
[h=3]5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

[/h][h=3]New European Version[/h]5 Yes and for this very cause you on your part should show all diligence; to your faith add virtue, and to virtue, knowledge. 6 And to your knowledge self-control, and to your self-control patience, and to your patience, reverence toward God. 7 And to your reverence toward God, brotherly kindness, and to your brotherly kindness, love.

5 We should use diligence or understanding not just anunderstanding that the world has but use a God given understanding. We shouldnot just know thing that of are Christ but also be like Christ for some we arethe only christ they will see outside their judgment so we should do our bestto mirror Christ.

6 Knowledge is important but more important when theknowledge is God given and is knowledge about the Godly things. Patience issomething most people struggle with, I have struggled with it but I grewbecause of Him and He can allow you to have more patience as well. God ispatience it is important we have patience as well, developing patience isusually not easy though. Patience allows God to take of things in His time andgives us what we need to wait on Him.

7 Kindness is important we should be kind but never at thecost of sinning against God. People may think we are nice until they questionour Lord but, I would rather them question my kindness than mock my Lord. Thosewho do not say bad things about our Lord may view us as nice but we shouldnever be door mats for people to walk all over and take advantage of us.

because you have believed, live like you do believe. be disciplined in living virtuously, keeping your hands from doing evil, but doing good. (re: 1 Corinthians 9:27)

seek understanding and knowledge of virtuous things. (re: Philippians 4:8, Proverbs 4:7)

put your knowledge and understanding to work; teach your hands with the wisdom given to your heart and mind (re: 1 Corinthians 9:27, Proverbs 4:14)

be slow to speak and condemn, and quick to listen and forgive (re: James 1:19)

love mercy, but also justice. don't embrace foolishness for the sake of being kind to a fool, or godlessness for the sake of kindness towards the ungodly. (re: Proverbs 13:20)

if you love God, you must also love who is sent by Him, or belongs to Him. if you reject His own, you reject Him also. (re: 1 John 4:20)

if you love your own family, you are no better than the godless, who do the same. if you do good to your enemies as well, you demonstrate the grace of God. (re: Matthew 5:43-48)

Quote by Post " if you love your own family, you are no better then the godless....."

Can you elaborate on this statement, at face value it is in conflict with the observing of the 5th Commandment. And is at variance to the love and devotion that
Jesus taught regarding families and parents

sure! hopefully this will clear up what i meant:

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household,
he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

(1 Timothy 5:8)

If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others?
Do not even the Gentiles do the same?

(Matthew 5:46-47)

by 'family' i meant in a human, blood relative sense, and also in the spiritual sense of the fellowship of the children of God.
if we only love those who love us, how great is our love?
