Back to Basics: Our Thoughts
Charles Stanley

1 Corinthians 2:16

This may come as a surprise to some, but the apostle Paul writes that we have the mind of Christ within us. This does not mean that we are like God in the omnipotent sense. We have a finite ability when it comes to mental perception. God is infinite in His ability and knows all things. He is omniscient.

However, we are His children. We belong to His family, and we have the ability to think on the things of God. But Satan does not enjoy taking a backseat, especially in the area of our thoughts. He knows if he can get our minds focused on negative, self-defeating, and impure thoughts, then most of the battle for our minds will be fought and won by him.

Learn to say no to his foolishness and demeaning suggestions by giving God full control of your thought life. You can reprogram your thoughts with His truth when you:

Acknowledge that you have the capacity to think correctly. (1 Corinthians 2:16)

Seek spiritual issues instead of focusing on negative suggestions. (Colossians 3:1-2)

Sift thoughts through God’s grid–His Word and will for your life. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Choose to refuse dark, negative thoughts that do not edify Christ’s presence in your life.
-

Renew your mind by feasting on the Word of God. (Colossians 3:16)

Yes, when we have come to Him, acknowledging Him and having repented, we have the mind of Christ. Our problem as you have indicated by scripture is that there are other sources of information and direction within us as well... very corruptible and/or corrupting sources. We must come to always recognise His voice coming from His mind and to reject the other voices coming from elsewhere.

Are we His sheep hearing His voice and following Him?

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" John 10:27

The biggest problem is the Holy Spirit has to slip past our belief system,he has to split some cows down the middle like Abram did.
Often he has things to say that we are just not willing to believe until we can confirm it in the word.
Then we have to make that jump between knowing and actually believing and then from believing to standing and then from standing to walking and then running then mounting with wings as eagles and then bearing much lasting fruit.

All of my childhood and much of my adult years was influenced mostly by carnal-minded men. I was a forest fire-fighter, forest surveyor, forester, wildlife manager, and avid outdoor sportsman, fellow-shipping with some of the most crude and rude people you can imagine. I began my journey into Christ in 1976, finding it very difficult to keep that career alive while making that mind of Christ real in me. I retired from that career, doing some catching up to the trail set out by Jesus. I recently decided to attend a reunion of federal government workers where many of my former peers also showed up. All the old trappings of sin and debauchery were present, and instead of having fun like we called it in the "old days", I felt great shame and disappointment. I slept in my hotel room that night instead of joining the Great Round Table of Foolishness, and returned to the airport at daylight while others slept off their rough night. From that experience I saw I had much more of that mind of Christ taking over my former stinkin-thinkin' self than I had realized, and should never compromise that gift. The beast was divided that night, the lantern carried, and I awoke forever convinced what my flesh laughed over for so many years was not how Jesus thinks at all.
