Bible Reading: Have you ever...

Read your Bible all the way through

The NT cannot be properly understood without Torah.
Read the five books.

I don't think the rest necessarily have to be in the order written, but the first five books were given directly to Moses by the Word of YHWH.

To ignore them is to ignore Jesus.

To understand Jesus' life as a human you must know something of His life before He was a human. His presence, though often carefully disguised in translation, is throughout the OT.

God didn't just give judgement to Him when He was "begotten."
He had judgement, I believe, from the beginning.

It was through Jesus that all things were created- nothing that has ever come into being came into being without Him.

And John 1:17- Because the Law was given through Moses grace and truth came into being through Jesus Christ. (I recently started picking through John in the Greek- that is how the Greek reads).

A lot of Christians believe that they are not under the Law, not a point I care to argue here, but also believe that the Law is impossible to keep (which would make no sense since many in the Bible are upheld as righteous and walking blameless in God's Law). Only by reading and contemplating the Law, which actually refers to the ENTIRE TORAH, (which is called "The Law" or "The Book of the Law"), can the NT writings about the Law be in any way understood and appreciated.

If you don't read and know Genesis, then you won't understand that Abraham had a personal relationship with Jesus (read starting at Genesis 15 with John 1:1 firmly in your mind).

You can also read about the New Covenant and see for yourself exactly what God expects from you and what your reward will be. A passage I marked recently relating to this is Jeremiah 31:31. It does not include the gentiles in the ff passages, but it is instructive none-the-less. Ask yourself if Jeremiah 31:34 applies to our times, and carefully consider what God promises.

Jeremiah 32:40 and the surrounding verses are also very instructive regarding God's promise.

Ezekiel 18:21-23 "But if the wicked man turn from his all his sins which he has committed and observes all of My statutes and practices justice and righteousness, he shall surely live; he shall not perish. All his transgressions which he has committed will not be remembered against him; because of his righteousness which he has practiced, he will live. Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked," declares the Lord God, "rather than that he should turn from his ways and live?"

It is so essential that the bible be in context.
The New Testament relies on the Old Testament for its foundation.
To not have read the Old Testament at least once before contemplating verse by verse any part of the New is to build your spiritual house on sand.

Bless up!

We definitely do not agree. May I point out that I fail to see any reference in your post to the importance of being led by HolySpirit but rather the law (torah).

I think it is helpful to try and read the bible through from begining to end at least once and study chronilogically some too, but the purpose for scripture is not for it to be your guide but rather affirm and reaffirm the necessity to be led by HolySpirit. Another very important fact is that in studying the bible remember that it is not a book but rather a whole library or compilation of books and letters. Many seem to make the mistake and use the same method of interpretation for the entire bible, failing to give attention to the literary dynamics, composition and audience.

I didn't say anything.
Scripture said it.
And nowhere does it say to be led by the Law.

I didn't write the bible, so you don't disagree with me.

WHAT IS GOD'S PROMISE FOR THE SECOND COVENANT?

Do you know?

Bless up!

Meaning what? That your interpretation of what the scriptures say is correct and that anyone who disagrees with you is disagreeing with the scriptures? I most definitely disagree with your interpretation of the scriptures concerning old and new covenants because I find error and conflict in it.

natty threads: Awesome!! You are exactly right. jiggyfly said we are to be led by the Spirit, that's true to. But the Spirit simply doesn't spring up one day and jump into you. Jesus is the Word part of God (God the father and The Word) as per my thread titled, "Do We Know Who Jesus Really Is". As the Word, Jesus gave the Laws and prophecies to the Prophets. The whole point of His Ministry was that people if given a choose will usually make the wrong one, Jesus always drove home that a person can not be of the body if he will not follow the Laws. Unfortunately many people honestly believe Jesus and His testimony of Himself/Father in Heaven is unimportant. But Jesus did say over and over again that we HAVE TO live by the Gospels which are the Laws of God or the Torah, which are the 1st 5 books of the O.T. I, as we all should, feel sorry for those that cannot or will not believe in our Saviour and pray for them. I just completed a blog on what originally wrote and will be posting it on my website soon.

God bless you and keep the Will of the Lord well.

your brother in Christ.

I didn't interpret any scripture.
I POSTED scripture references that you don't like so you are pretending that what I posted is my opinion and are attacking me instead of considering the scripture on its own merits.

Why won't you answer my question, jiggyfly.

What is God's promise for the New Covenant?
It's in the scripture I posted.
What is His promise?

Thank-you pagan mystic.

I am constantly stunned by people who believe they can understand Paul, understand Jesus, understand any of the New Testament writing without an intimate active knowledge of the Torah.

I've had so many people tell me the Law is impossible to follow, which makes no sense, because so many in the bible are referred to as blameless in the Law, such as John the Baptist's parents, Zacharias and Elizabeth.

They don't even know what the Law is, they don't know what God's promise is, and if they did know they might not want it.

1st John 2:3-4

By this we know that we have come to know Him; if we keep His commandments. The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.

Matthew 5:17-19

"Do not think that I come to abolish the Law and the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say unto you, until Heaven and earth pass away not the smallest letter nor stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Whoever annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great."

I didn't say it.
Jesus did.

It is not my "interpretation"

It is the words of Christ.

So, can you be saved if you don't follow the Law?
Of course.

But if you love Jesus and allowed yourself to be led by Him you won't be able to help but follow the Law.

And if you teach people NOT to follow the Law you will be least in the Kingdom of Heaven.

NOT my interpretation, NOT my opinion, but the words of Jesus.

Nothing has changed.
Regard Hosea 6:6.

God has always preferred loyalty over sacrifice and knowledge of Him over burnt offerings.

God has always offered grace.

Bless up!

Is this thread about the law or about reading the bible????????????
If anyone wants to discuss being under the law and keeping the commandments and feast, I would be happy to participate in a new thread.

Hi there TJ friends,

I've read the Bible through a few times. I've done it in differant ways. I have a Bible in the Year Bible. Where you just open it up and start reading. It's set up for daily reading with some old, some new, prov. and psalm. I've also read the whole Bible just with my regular Bible. I've done it differant ways. One time I started in Matt. and read through to Rev. Then read Old Test. from Gen. through. I will mark the front of my Bible with a check on each book that I read that way I know that I've read them all. I'm trying to read the Bible through on-goingly now. I put a check at the front of the book that I'm reading and when I finish it I write the date that I finished it. The more that I read the Word the more His words sticks to my heart and the more I hunger for the Lord and see His awesome-ness. Some seasons I read a proverb a day and really "park" there to soak it in. One time I just read a Psalm or two a day. Differant seasons in my life I read the Bible differantly. But there is something amazing about reading the whole Bible more than once. It blesses the heart and gives a greater understanding of the "whole story" of HIStory.

Another thing to note is that one can read through the Bible - just to say that you did it. My heart is to read it and have it absorb into my heart and life. So when I read it, I read with a pencil and write in my Bible as I go. I write notes, questions and what hits my heart. Also I mark where I stop reading, so that when I go to read again I know where I left off. I also keep a special bookmark in my place so I can get there quickly. Some seasons I read with a Journal beside me so after reading I write down some verses that really struck my heart and write to the Lord about them and other things that are on my heart. Sometimes I have to journal first to "get the garbage out" so I can focus on the Word, sometimes just verbal prayer is "enough" to help me focus on the Word for the day. The Holy Spirit leads us on in knowing and loving the Lord in greater and greater measures. We must be willing for His leading, too. :)

There are my "two-cents" on Bible reading. My ending words - read the Bible. God promises that His Word will not return void.:love:

i say amen sis... i just started such reading program two years ago. And am now on the third course. Reading my Bible per chapter of the day.

God bless all!!

Yea That

I had a great post but this site gave me such problems I lost it all.

Any way I lovet to soak in the word. Try Romans 3:21a, "But Now"! we ahve a high priest who intercedes for us constantly.

jiggy replyed to my original post with a bunch of stuff on the Law and Torah and yeah ok but before the Law there was faith by which Abraham was made righteous before God by Faith. The Law is un attainable not that we should act any way we choose heaven forbid.

When Abraham by faith listened to God and went to sacrafice his son and the seed from which our Saviour would come, that was Faith. More than we can attain, but THAT doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Any way Yeah I soak regularly, especially during the election.

Yes I have. At the moment I am being supplied on-line with a daily reading by C.B.N. Usuing the New Living Translation, I am discovering new meanings to old words, that have blessed and still do.

Yes!

read through the complete Bible?

While the Father can move us and use us without us consuming the whole thing - it's my firm belief that as you consume it all with understanding, the Spirit moves you to a richer place of clarity (maturity) in Christ. It's something I HIGHLY recommend :)

Remember Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

reading the entire Bible

If you just read a few pages a day,, you would be suprised how quickly you can read the entire Bible.. it took me 4 months

reading the Bible through

IMHO, it is more important to ask, "How much of the Bible is in your heart and not just in your head?" Ps 23 is powerful, and if that was all you knew but really believed it and understood it, it would get you through a lot of things.

I have read many good Christian books that have helped me understand the Bible and have helped me understand the power that a Christian has. They have also helped me understand my relationship with my Father in heaven. I have read the Bible through a few times in my 22 years as a Christian, but I think I have gained a lot from the books that I would not have gained if I had read only the Bible. Two of the books I have read are "God Calling" and "God at Eventide." They are published on the Internet and are free.

First I read from Genesis to Revelation and now I "jump around" while reading. I make sure to read at least 3-4 chapters everyday. I'm not sure how many times I've read it now as I "jump around", but it must be at least a few times. What truly amazes me is that every time I read it, I am always given a "better", deeper understanding than the last time I read the same exact verse......or in some instances, I find a whole "new" knowledge in the verse, that I had not understood before.....God's Word is impregnated with knowledge and understanding! I truly recommend reading it whenever u have a chance to do so!

to clarify my last post...."I jump around" doesn't mean that I aimlessly "wander around"....I meant to say that I do not usually read the books of the Bible in order....I go from one book to the other...for example, I may read Genesis and when I'm finished with reading that again, I will go I Kings, etc. I make sure to read the whole book of what I have "jumped to" before moving on to another book of the Bible....hope that helped to clarify!
