We live in a day and time not much different from what was going on in the days of Jeremiah, a prophet of God to the people. So much of the church has become so worldly, and so many have altered the gospel message to make it less offensive and more appealing to human flesh and to the ungodly of the world. So many are pampering the sinfully addicted. And so many professing Christians are believing that their sins do not matter to God. But Jesus died to free us from our sins, not to coddle us in our sins.
Jeremiah 4:1-2 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
“If you will return, O Israel,
return to Me,” declares the LORD.
“If you will remove your detestable idols from My sight
and no longer waver,
2and if you can swear, ‘As surely as the LORD lives,’
in truth, in justice, and in righteousness,
then the nations will be blessed by Him,
and in Him they will glory.”
And God is presently calling his idolatrous and adulterous church to return to Him as her only Lord (Owner-Master). He is confronting the church with her sinful acts and with her worship of idols, such as certain Pastors and/or politicians who they raise to God-like status and who they follow blindly, accepting their lies as though they are truth, without consulting God and His Word to see if what they are saying is indeed truth, as taught in the correct biblical context. For too many lies are taught from Scriptures out of context.
Too much of the church has gone the way of the world to win the world to her gatherings, in order to grow her numbers. And too many of her gatherings are all about attracting and entertaining the world and not about preaching death to sin and walks of obedience to our Lord as evidence that our faith in Jesus Christ is biblical faith, and not of the flesh. Too many have partnered with the government and with the world and are marketing their gatherings to the people of the world, both of which our God forbids!
[Matthew 21:12-13; John 2:13-17; Acts 5:27-32; 1 Corinthians 1:10-13; 1 Corinthians 3:1-9; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Philippians 3:18-19; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22; Revelation 13:5-8; Revelation 18:1-5]
But Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) Him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to His commands, in His power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).
Jeremiah 4:3-4 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
3For this is what the LORD says to the men of Judah and Jerusalem:
“Break up your unplowed ground,
and do not sow among the thorns.
4Circumcise yourselves to the LORD,
and remove the foreskins of your hearts,
O men of Judah and people of Jerusalem.
Otherwise, My wrath will break out like fire
and burn with no one to extinguish it,
because of your evil deeds.”
If the church would return to her Lord in humility and repentance, and if she would make Him her only Lord and husband, He would shower His spiritual blessings upon her. He would revive her heart, cleanse her from all impurities, restore her to fellowship with Him, and she would walk with Him all the rest of her days. No longer would she follow the stubbornness of her own heart, but she would follow her Lord Jesus with wholehearted devotion, honor, and praise, in walks of obedience to His commands in holy living.
She would put her detestable idols out of the sight of the Lord, i.e. she would discard them like garbage. Amen! She would no longer go astray. She would walk in truth and in the Lord’s righteousness, in the power and the working of the Spirit of God within her. And she would be blessed of the Lord. And this is not to say that any of us will be absolutely perfect in every way from that moment on, but that, by faith in Jesus Christ, we are to deny self, die to sin daily, and walk (in conduct) in obedience to our Lord.
This is the desire of God’s heart for His people. This is what He is calling His church to do, to no longer harden her hearts against her God, and to no longer follow after the ways of this sinful world and after the gods made by human hands, but to humble herself before God in repentance, and to allow the Spirit of God to renew her heart. And this may require some deep digging into what is stored up in the hearts of those professing faith in Jesus Christ and letting the Lord remove all which stands against Him and His will.
For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

As the Deer
By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
