In Matthew 23:8-10 Jesus said; "But be not you called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all you are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be you called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ." Rabbi is a title the Jews used to address their "teachers"; Same with the word master which means "a guide or a teacher."

In this the Lord was trying to show us the importance of seeking understanding from Him alone by faith, and not from "carnally minded" men. In many churches and forums you will hear all kinds of different doctrines being taught, but they all do not agree; and they will not agree. That is because there are so many different "man-made" interpretations of scripture, and many different denominations preaching "their own" point of view; which is often of "the flesh" and not of the Holy Spirit.

But we must understand by the words of God that wisdom and understanding in His words does not come from any man, but only by God through His Spirit of Truth. Just as the Spirit that comes from God is not divided, neither is Christ divided, nor is the Holy Spirit divided in His way of thinking. This is why Paul said to be of "One mind"; and that is only accomplished by having "the mind of Christ" via the Spirit of Christ dwelling in you. Paul said if any man had not "the Spirit of Christ", then he was not of Christ. Paul said in Ephesians 4:20-21 "But you have not so learned Christ; if so be that you have been "taught by Him", as the truth is in Christ.
When God's Living Word (Christ) enters into you via the Holy Spirit, then Christ becomes your Master and your Teacher. Paul said in Galatians 1:11-12 "But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." Paul was talking about having Christ "in" Him, that is the living Word of God "in" him.

The scribes and the Pharisees had the written words of God which they searched, studied, and memorized; but listen to what Jesus said to them in John 8:37 "I know that you are Abrahams seed; but you seek to kill me, because "my word" has no place "in" you." This means the Living Word, or Christ, was not dwelling "in them" via the Holy Spirit; and that is also why Jesus said they could not "hear" His words.

And that is what the Lord Jesus wanted us to understand when He told us to call no man Rabbi, or Master. When Jesus asked his disciples who they say he was, and Peter replied Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Notice Jesus’ reply in Matthew 16:17 “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”

Just as John the Baptist said by the Spirit in John 3:27 “John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” Just as those who are born of God shall also be "taught by God". Jesus said in John 6:45 “It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath "heard", and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” Faith comes by hearing and "hearing" comes by the Word of God.

In James 1:5 we are told; "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him." But in the next verse we are told; "but let him ask in faith." We must also believe that God can give us the understanding and knowledge we seek to discern His words. And this knowledge is given to us by way of the Holy Spirit; which is the Spirit of Truth.

It is written of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 2:12-13 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which "man's wisdom" teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”

In Luke 11:10 Jesus said; "For every one that asks recieves, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be open." We are told in verse 13:"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him."

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth Jesus spoke of in John 16:13;"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of Truth, is come, he will guide you into all Truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come."

Many new converts do not understand how this wonderful gift of understanding is offered to all those who truly believe in the power of God to give you understanding and wisdom in His words. And sadly many run to men teachers, books, and literature and other sources on the internet to learn things written by other "carnally minded" men who have not the Holy Spirit of Truth. And by this defiled man made doctrine, they are then also led astray and corrupted. And that is how the enemy works and deceives many, by teaching the false doctrines of "carnally minded" men.

In Jeremiah 17:5 it is written; "Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that "trusts in man", and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord." Jesus said in Matthew 15:9;"But in vain they do worship me, teaching for "doctrines" the commandments "of men." It was the "man made doctrine" and traditions that corrupted the Truth then, even as it is today. This is that leaven that can leaven the whole lump.

Jesus warned the early disciples in Matthew 16:6 when he said; "Take heed and beware of "the leaven" of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees." In verse 12 we see the "leaven" of the Pharisees was their "doctrine".

It was this "man-made" doctrine that corrupted the Truth then by the spirit of this world, as "it" is also at work "in" many denominations of the man-made church system today. So as it says in Ephesians 4:14 be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with "every wind of doctrine", by the sleight of "men", and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;"

But rather seek by faith that spiritual understanding and wisdom in the Word of God that can only be obtained through the anointing of the Spirit of Truth in Jesus Christ. We are told in 1 John 2:27 "But the anointing which you have received of him abides in you, and you need not that any man teach you: but the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you
shall abide in him."

This wisdom is given freely to us from the Father of lights in heaven above.
Peace and God bless

Trust not in the wisdom of men!

1 Corinthians 2

King James Version

2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

According to Paul, Jesus himself has appointed some people to be teachers.

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:11

The thing I can't help but think when I see threads like this..

Isn't the person posting these messages a "man" who is trying to teach us something?

It seems there are 3 or 4 people here on TalkJesus, who are teachers, telling us not to let any man teach us.
Does anyone besides me see any irony in this?

Acts 8:30; Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
Acts 8:31; And he said, "Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

Heb 5:12; For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

Some of them even post videos of men teaching people, in order to tell us not to let anyone teach us.

Matt 28:18; And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Matt 28:19; "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Matt 28:20;
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Years ago, I taught Sunday school for young children, many of them couldn't read, but they knew about Jesus.
We have a couple of mentally handicapped adults in our church. One can barely read, the other can't read at all.
But they know about Jesus.... where do you think they learned about Him from?

A true minister of God will point people to the true Teacher and Master, which is Christ.

They will not preach by the wisdom of men and by the spirit of the world, but they will preach by the Spirit and by the wisdom of God.

They will not promote their own church or denomination, and they will not promote themselves as to lord over others.

If we testify of ourselves, then our testimony is not true. But if we testify by Christ, then His testimony is True.

I am just a man, pointing people to the true Teacher and Master Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 17:5
Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.

Yes, but they did not preach of themselves, but pointed people to the true Teacher and Master Jesus Christ. And neither did they seek to lord over the flock, but considered themselves as servants.

2 Corinthians 4:5
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

neither did they seek to lord over the flock,

I don't know if I would word it that way, but they were the "shepherds" so to speak. As pastors today are responsible for their congregations.
Note the verses below are not written to Jesus, or even to any of the apostles. But rather to anyone who leads the flock.

Acts 20:28; "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

1Pet 5:2; shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;

2Cor 11:2; For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.

1Cor 4:14; I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.

1Thes 2:11; just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children,

Caring for the Lords flock, (not our own) is not the same as trying to lord over, or desiring men to call you rabbi, master, or teacher, as did the Pharisees.

Listen to Jesus…

Mark 10:42-45

King James Version

42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

Do you think the religious leaders of today could make the same mistakes as the religious leaders back then?

Matthew 23:1-15

King James Version

23 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.”

I think many of the Gentile religious leaders have done all these, and more.

In Matthew 23:8-10 Jesus said; "But be not you called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all you are brethren. Knowing ABOUT Jesus/Yeshua is easy, knowing him is hard. You can know a lot about him through all those sources you mentioned, but only through practice can you really know him and relate to him.

I gotta say that don’t be too harsh on these what you call “carnally minded teachers.” We are living in perilous time, and there’re many litmus tests to show whether you are truly of Christ or not - was the universe created by God in a week? Is marriage between a man and a woman? Is Jesus/Yeshua the only way to heaven? Should we still go to church in person in spite of restrictions and inconveniences? Regardless of any other doctrines or traditions, if a pastor can answer all these questions with a simple yes, proclaim it in public, and lead all his congregation to do the same and face any consequences that may come, then that’s a true warrior of Christ that deserves our respect.

To be carnally minded is the opposite of being spiritually minded. Meaning those who are still in the flesh are not yet born again of Gods Holy Spirit and are yet still carnally minded.

Sadly most people who go to churches these days are still yet carnally minded, and are being taught by other carnally minded teachers.

But the world will receive its own.

How do you know who's spiritually minded and who's carnally minded? I would say, consistency. Most people who go to church can be spiritually minded - but only for one day. For the rest of the week, totally carnally minded, and that's the disconnection.

God-given teachers serve a very important purpose, to wit: "For the perfecting of
the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ" (Eph
4:12)

The very first temptation, per the 3rd chapter of Genesis, was to become self
taught. Well; it's readily apparent where that path took Eve; and yet people today
are twisting 1John 2:27 for an excuse to follow her example.

Are all teachers appointed and anointed by God to preach and teach? And how many are actually sent by God to preach?

That is big gamble to put your trust in men, whom God may not have sent at all.

If you put your trust in Christ you will not need that any man should teach you.

1 John 2:27
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

God-given teachers so they can grow and develop.

1John 2:27 was written by a man. In point of fact, the entire New Testament was
written by men. To my knowledge, Jesus wrote not one single verse: not one.

BTW: Aren't you a man? Should I be listening to you? Should anybody around here
be listening to you? Wouldn't it be a big gamble to trust the things you say?

Where did the apostles get the Testimony from? And who taught the apostles and Paul?

Here is a clue…

Galatians 1:7-12

King James Version

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ

Paul, the apostles, and all God’s elect are taught by Christ.

It seems there are 3 or 4 people here on TalkJesus, who are teachers, telling us not to let any man teach us.
Does anyone besides me see any irony in this?

Yep, I Like teaching myself, if I don't, who will do it right. of my secret faults both known and unknown. "I can hit the mark" and Can Throw a "Boomerang" But kinda of sloppy with a "Double Edge SWORD" I cut my self with it all the time.:) almost like A Monkey with a Machine Gun.

Romans 2:21

"you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself?"":)
