@Jesusloverboy
Let's look at some scripture. The first one below should be enough to give us a proper perspective of what we're really talking about, but I'll add a couple as I move on.
Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Romans 13:1-3 [1]
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. [2] Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. [3] For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Now we have to stop looking at ourselves or identifying ourselves as the world wants to define us, or should I say "label us".
Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
Who are we, but one in Christ Jesus. Yes I would and do call many my Brother or Sister in Christ Jesus. Yet the very important part of that is that we are "In Christ Jesus"!
I would tell both you and your father to be less concerned with worldly labels, than with walking in His way. Being Holy, Pure, Loving, adhering as much as possible to His Word that you might be seen as worthy servants of our King, our Lord, our Savior, our God!
I would wonder what any political party would say if you told them that your serve the King of Kings and that He's your friend?
Our duties are clear. Remembering that by belonging to Him. Our choice has been made for us. We are His and not the worlds nor do we belong to some earthly political party over the Kingdom of God that we are citizens of.
If you vote for leadership. Then vote for the one that adheres to the Word of God! At least as closely as possible. For in one party they might feed the poor, but agree with abortion. In the other they might disagree with abortion, but have the orphans and widows care for themselves. Is one more righteous than the other? Pray for wisdom and understanding. If believer you are. Then use the tools you have available to you. The Word of God and the Holy Spirit who is there to guide you in all things.
John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that
shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
It would be better that you and your father come together in prayer and learning of God's Word and honoring the Most High above the petty politics of this world. That you might fulfill the commission set before all Christians.
Matthew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world. Amen.
Always remembering that we should love each other as He loves us.
John 15:12
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
In closing. You'll see where a person stands if you tell them that you balance politics against the Word of God. Regardless of their politics you'll be very surprised by the persons reaction! I could go on, but I think by now. At least I pray so. That you understand where I'm coming from as a Brother in Christ Jesus.
