I agree to Chad... Music is from God ...be it rock, rap, metal, hip hop, pop, heavymetal, punk,..... The only important thing is WHO we sing about!! If Jesus is the theme of your song, you have a wonderful song. Chritianity is not boredom... God has given us variety. I like all kind of music. And though I'm not inclined to rap, I know there are artists whom GOD called out to rap for Him. And there are people who ROCK for the KINGDOM. If you are at the centre of what God has called you to be, nothing compares to it!!
Music is a spiritual experience. You read that the evil spirit left Saul when David, the anointed one of God played the harp. "Music's only purpose is the Glory of God". I didn't say this. Sir John Sebastian Bach, whom the world hailed as the Father of Music quoted this. And by the way, He was a born again Christian believer. And because music is a spiritula experience be adamant that you will never be compromising to listen to secular music. I have seen the hazards of secular music in my life and in the lives of close friends. Christian music is God's gift. Or better to say, music is God's gift so it better be Christian!! And secular music is devil's weapon.
I have heard testimonies of people getting saved and healed being at a LIFE METAL concert (life metal is the christian version of death metal..we talk about life, don't we?). And only a person who is into metal can follow it.
God is well aware of our tastes, liking, inlinations etc. And I believe, as a musician and a music fan, that excellence should flow from the Church. Variety should be the hallmark of the Church. And the world should look up to the Church for wisdom, creativity, ideas, knowledge in all fields. " life in abundance..." applies to everything. For many years, the traditional church closed doors to loud music, whereas in the Bible, especially in Psalm, we read of , cymbals, crashing cymbals, loud cymbals, 10 stringed harps, flutes, trumpets.... all kind of "cacaphony". "Make His prasies LOUD".
When I was in school I used to sign autographs saying - The King of music!! I was a celebrated musician in school. But when I got saved, I realised I was wrong and submitted my music to the glory of the One I met - I met the REAL King of music, rather the King of Kings, The King of all things - JESUS! To Him be the Glory, The Dominion, The Honour and The Power forever and ever. AMEN
