Christmas: Pagan Origins / Should Christians Celebrate?

December 25th was not Christ's birthday but His day of conception. He was born nine months later in the month of September. I agree that if you celebrate Christmas in the name of Christ and what He stands for, you will be ok. It's kinda like Easter, it started out as a sexual heathen ritual practice. You know, quick like a bunny. There is nothing wrong with hunting Easter eggs, just not sure whether or not we should be doing it on one of the highest days of Christianity.

Christ wasn't born on December 25th, that was the day of His conception. He was born nine months later in the month of September. It can be documented. Not sure whether Christmas was start by a pagan belief. I'm in agreement with, if one looks at Christmas as a time of giving and doing the Christian thing then it's well and good.

I celebrate Christmas, and value it as a time to reflect on the miracle and mystery of God taking on human flesh. It's also a great time to celebrate with family and friends. Every year our small church has an opportunity to welcome people and share the story of the gospel with people who would never normally come to a church service.

One observation: pagans have a place in the story of Jesus' birth - the pagan gifts of the wise men, soothsayers, Magi from the east were received by Mary and Joseph and honoured in Matthew's gospel.
