Did you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit by works, or by faith?

What has that to do with the topic being discussed?
We have to obey and not just hear and believe. The not of works Paul speaks of are the purification works we don't have to do. We still have to repent of our sins and die to the sins of the world and promise to live to please Jesus.

Did you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit by works, or by faith?

Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly set forth crucified?
2 This only would I learn from you, Received ye the Spirit from works of law, or from hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in Spirit, are ye now perfected in flesh?
4 Did ye suffer so many things in vain? if indeed in vain.
5 Who therefore supplieth you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, is it from works of law, or from the hearing of faith?

Hebrews 2:4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

1Corinthians 12:4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit;
5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;
:6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

Oh boy, lol, glad you brought this up.

Read this and tell me why Paul is rebuking the Galatians.

Explain it to me if you think that Paul is rebuking them for obeying Jesus too much. :joy:

Galatians 4:9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years.…

Galatians 5:2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.

Some Jews came and told them they have to do the works of the law, the purification works of the law.

I proved it to you with scriptures..

You should thank me instead of resisting and hating me.

Hebrews 2:4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
These signs shall follow them that believe the gospel once delivered by Jesus our Lord and the apostles.
And this is the testimony of Pentecostal Christians.

That was DURING the LAYING of the FOUNDATION when the SIGN NEEDED to be GIVEN, and when the TESTIMONY from GOD was given.

The foundation has been laid and the message has been testified too and the sign has been given.

Tongues ceased as did prophecy and new knowledge, just like the scripture says it would.

Sorry you are wrong -
tongues exist today both as the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and as a separate gift operated in church meetings accompanied by the gift of interpretation.
And scripture does not state that tongues has ceased.

Hello @Waggles,

I believe that I was sealed by the Holy Spirit of God unto the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30). This took place the moment I believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour, and received the forgiveness of sins through faith in the efficacy of His work of redemption on my behalf.

I have never spoken in tongues or had any outward manifestation of the Holy Spirit, neither do I seek it. If it was the will of God that I should have such evidences of the Holy Spirit's indwelling, God would have ensured that I had it.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto a day of redemption.
To whom is Paul writing to? The Roman Catholics? The Eastern Orthodox churches? Lutherans or Baptists? Protestants?
No, Paul is not writing to any over the above.
This epistle like all the other epistles is written to Pentecostal saints that are the Spirit-filled church that all can speak in tongues and enjoy signs and miracles to confirm the true gospel.
Ephesians 1:1 Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus through God’s will, to the saints that are at Ephesus and faithful in Christ Jesus:
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude 1:3 Beloved, while I was giving all diligence to write you of our common salvation, I was constrained to write you exhorting to contend earnestly for the faith once for all delivered to the saints.

1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

I am explaining the truth. The truth shall set you free.
No way hosè - the baptism of the Spirit of truth is accompanied by speaking in tongues.
Acts 11:15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as on us at the beginning.
16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

"Speaking of tongue" could mean a lot of different things to different people. It could be mumbling non-sense, speaking in foreign languages, or to a much broader extent, the true spirit of journalism that exposes darkness with light, separating facts from fictions, sharing the truth behind the cover up. That could be applied in any aspect of society, from any business or organization, and I think those who embrace this spirit have done a much better job than the "apostles" within the church buildings.

Greeting Brother Nick,
@Waggles

That scripture does not declare that tongues, prophecy or knowledge has ceased.

the Scriptures do declare many wondrous things that many in the Church miss and all too often they fill the void with things they are either taught or at the every least, feel most comfortable with.

What does seem to have ceased is a real willingness to have our eyes and ears open to the Truth, as given in the accounts we have been granted in the Bible.
this is something that does not seem to bring the called into repentance with tears, as we re-discover all that the Lord, in His everlasting kindness both taught and continues to teach to all who are wanting to go beyond the traditions handed down, and arrive at the blessing He has prepared for each that is called by His name.

How often i am reminded of those separated as goats, who, in vain, say, "Lord, Lord, we have done 'all these things' in your name... and how many refuse to want to even consider that there is much more that they are not yet aware of, and for all too many, do not care to know, being all too comfortable with the doctrine(s) they are at home with.

Jesus is the Lord

Bless you ....><>

Your continuing denial of the truth is lamentable given the current Holy Spirit revival that is happening throughout the world right now.
All over the world, and especially in non-Christian nations, God is pouring out his Spirit -
people repent and believe the full gospel of salvation and are water baptized confessing their faith in Christ Jesus as their Lord God and Saviour for the remission of their sins,
then these same people are also being baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of praying in tongues: then also come the healings and wondrous miracles.
Yes even in Islamic and atheist societies Pentecostal revival is happening big time.

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
