Discrepancy between Esther 4:16 and 5:1?

Greetings,

I had not looked at those versions.
I shall look and get back.

Bless you ....><>

I'd still like to know why you think my post #6 is incorrect.

Fasting is not always done in private, I seriously doubt that Daniel took a vacation from the kings business to fast for 21 days.

Esther called for Mordecai to gather the Jews and have a prayer meeting of sorts over the situation for her which included the fasting of no drink or food those 3 days. She also said that she and her maidens would do the same.

Most likely she was still fasting when she met with the king, as Daniel would have done serving the king. That would have taken place "on the third day" of her fasting. KJV

There are several possibilities and we can't be sure of exactly what happened, and we can't conclude the Scripture is wrong because we don't have these facts explaining every detail.

I was referring to your Monday/Thursday example in your post #2.

Do you know the clock times, because without knowing which side of 6 pm these incidents occurred you have nothing more than one baseless assertion?
I'd still like to know how "knowing which side of 6 pm" impacts Charlie's example.

That was to explain "on the third day" not to be a calendar day, but the third day of fasting.
I guess I'm being confused by your use of the word "day" when you apparently mean three 24 hour periods of fasting. And as such, four different periods of light times would be involved with your example. I'm trying to figure out if that would violate the Esther account.

The reason I stated this topic was to gain information from it to be used in another topic.

I believe Esther and the Jews fasted for 3 days and 3 nights regardless of the calendar days involved.

I also believe they continued the fast after she met with the king, as we can see the issue was not settled at that meeting.

"On the third day" is clearly the third day of the fasting, and as usual with the Scripture, we don't have all the details to determine exactly what happened.

"On the third day" could mean they continued the fast though the third day even after her first meeting with the king, or it could mean, depending on the time she began the fast, that her fasting was over when she met with the king, with no regard to calendar days, the emphasis being on the fasting days.

We don't have enough info to determine exactly what happened. Therefore not enough info to determine a discrepancy.

It seems you insist on a discrepancy whereas I don't see one.

Greetings,

Multi tasking is possible.
I have been fasting for some time and writing here with two drips in and soon to be anesthetized

So it is possible that Esther was fasting at the time and the day start / finish doesn't have to come into play.
