There has been much talk, here on Talk Jesus regarding the last days, so I thought it might be advantageous to consider the subject.
2 Timothy 3:1-9 But mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
It is noticeable, the difference between Godly people and the worldly, and this has become apparent in a very short time. I'd like us to imagine a volcano with the magma rising up. Since the end of the second world war, changes have been taking place. In the nineteen forties, the post war era, children in the main, would try to emulate their parents in their desire to become 'grown up'. However, because of the carnage brought about by the war, where many thousands of men were killed and women had to survive, and so promiscuity became rife and families became disjointed. This started to change society and the pre-understood norms were irreparably damaged. Because of the tensions brought about by this promiscuous inevitability, the security of the youth was, in many cases shattered, and they started to rebel. In the fifties, teddy boy gangs and beatniks started to appear, the beginning of the youth culture. In those days, the start of the youth culture was fairly low key with teddy boy gangs lounging on street corners, full of anger from post war hurts, and willing to espouse it to other gangs. It was the start of dark times; then there were the beatniks who would congregate in coffee bars and try to work out their hurt politically. These phenomena slowly transformed into mods and rockers and hippies, and then punks and heavy metal, not to mention the 'gay' phenomenon. As these metamorphoses took place engulfing more and more of society, society itself started to disintegrate. All the building blocks are now collapsing. We now have a gender gap, men are no longer men, women are no longer women, we have the right to interchange. All the biblical morals are being challenged and the stability of the family unit is in tatters. Men and women are now covered in tattoos and their sexuality, in many cases, is unrecognisable, even the aged are living as though they have not aged, the dignity of the aged has long gone. The volcano is now erupting. We have race riots on our streets, we are being targeted by terrorists and many are being murdered, The wars and rumours of wars promised in scripture are taking place, the populous are lost, not knowing what to believe and the politicians are so corrupt that no-one can rely on their wisdom. People are in despair not knowing where to turn. Many will say, the church holds the answers, but where are the churches? The pope is now telling us that Jesus was a failure and calling all faiths to join in a one world religion. The archbishop of Canterbury is now meeting with the pope in agreement. True Christians throughout the middle east are being slaughtered, and it won't be long before it reaches the west. Society itself is now side-lining Jesus, BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini) have been changed to BCE (Before common era) and CE (Common Era) the name of Jesus and God himself are now swear words that people use to curse. It seems that there are those who wish to totally discredit Jesus, and dismantle the whole of our social structure. The question is: To replace it with what? I suppose we'll find out when the magma that has exploded into the atmosphere lands and the results come into focus. This appears to be a catastrophe, but that is far from the case. This is the culmination of the prophesy in the letter to Timothy, and our reaction should be Hallelujah!
