False Teachers Among You

“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.” (2 Peter 2:1-3 NASB’95)

I live in America, so I can only speak to what I know of what is going on in my nation. But over my lifetime of 75 years, the gospel message which is largely being taught has changed so drastically that it is nothing at all like Jesus taught it, and like his New Testament apostles taught it. When I was growing up as a child and as a youth I was taught the importance of death to sin and walks of obedience to my Lord’s commands, and of holy living.

But I will say this. When I was a young woman in my 20’s I was being taught a gospel presentation that was pretty weak, and that used Scriptures taught out of context to make their case, and so it did water down the truth of the gospel and it made it easy for people to “believe” in Jesus without evidence that their faith was genuine, and of God, for it focused more on “praying a prayer to receive Jesus Christ” and less on holy living.

It was a gospel message that assured people who “prayed the prayer” of their salvation from sin and their eternal life with God in heaven that could not be taken away from them regardless of how they lived. They were not so blatant back then to stress the “regardless of how you live” message as they are today, but by not stressing that true faith results in us dying to sin and walking in obedience to our Lord’s commands, it gave the same message.

For many people from then on got the distinct message that once they “prayed the prayer” that now all their sins were forgiven, and heaven was guaranteed them when they died, end of story. “Church attendance” was often stressed more than dying daily to sin and walks of surrender and obedience to our Lord as having any impact on our salvation and eternal life with God at all. You were regarded as a “backslider” if you didn’t attend “church” services. But you could live in sin and they would leave you alone.

But let me say this about “the church.” The church is not a building. It is not a church denomination. It is not a business incorporated under (partnered with) the state to be marketed to the world like any other business. It is not a stage production geared toward “drawing in large crowds of people from the world” into their gatherings so that they fill up “the church” with the ungodly. The church is the universal body of believers in Jesus Christ, and the purpose of our gatherings is to strengthen one another in the faith.

Anyway, so much of what the Scriptures teach about the church and the gospel of our salvation has gotten so discombobulated (confused) now that they are barely recognizable as the biblical church and the gospel taught by Jesus and by his New Testament apostles. So many are now teaching that you can make an acknowledgment of Jesus as your Savior but that you are not required to die to sin nor are you required to obey the Lord. All they have to do is give lip service to God and they are promised eternal life.

And this is being taught by these false prophets, apostles, evangelists, and pastors and teachers of the Scriptures. So what they are doing is they are leaving the door wide open for “Christians” to continue living in their sins, in sexual immorality, adultery, lying, cheating, and stealing, etc. while they guarantee them heaven upon death. And they are not teaching them if sin is what they practice, and not obedience to God, that they do not have the hope of salvation from sin and eternal life with God, for that offends people.

And so we have a country full of professing Christians whose way of living is really not much different from those who make no professions of faith in the Lord. They watch all the same stuff, tell the same jokes, play the same games, and they blend right in with the world. So many of their gatherings are theatre productions intended to draw in large crowds of people from the world and they do not operate as the biblical body of Christ at all. So they really are not much different from those who do not profess faith in Christ.

But it isn’t just that so much of the church has become so worldly in order to “win the world” or that many are no longer teaching the gospel that Jesus and his New Testament apostles taught regarding the necessity of us dying with Christ to sin and now walking in obedience to his commands. But so many of them now are opposing and rejecting and persecuting those who are still teaching the gospel as Jesus taught it. And they are accusing us falsely of teaching “works salvation” because we are repeating what Jesus taught.

But God will discipline them. God will cast his judgment upon those who are deliberately teaching what is false and who are rebuking his saints who are teaching what is truth. He will judge them for their deliberate lies and deceptions and for falsifying his truth in order to lead people away from the truth to follow after the lies. And he will judge all who have followed in the ways of deception and sensuality and who are still living in sin and whose practice is not obey our Lord. They will not have eternal life with God.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.

“But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies,
This is the problem if we can not discern our Real Prophets/Teachers. We will have "destructive heresies" and will suffer the consequence of not having heed the warning from our "Abba Father/Daddy", Jehovah. And it all boils down to disobedience because He did tell us this and He did tell us to ask Him who our Real Prophets/Teachers are.
