“Behold, as for the proud one,
His soul is not right within him;
But the righteous will live by his faith.
Furthermore, wine betrays the haughty man,
So that he does not stay at home.
He enlarges his appetite like Sheol,
And he is like death, never satisfied.
He also gathers to himself all nations
And collects to himself all peoples.” (Habakkuk 2:4-5 NASB1995)
The word “proud” can have both a positive and a negative meaning. On the positive side it can refer to being happy, pleased, approving of, delighted, and/or fulfilled in some way. It would have to be in line with what God approves of, though, for it to be on the positive side of proud. But the obvious meaning of “proud” in this Scripture has to do with being arrogant, self-important, self-righteous and egotistical, which is bad in itself, but the cause of which might be because of getting away with sin of some kind.
And that is what is indicated here, that the proud one’s soul is not right within him, because he is not right with God. It sounds, as well, as though he was given to strong drink which took some element of control over his mind, emotions, and behaviors. And straying from home has the sound of adultery to it, that he wanders elsewhere and he feeds the sinful cravings of the flesh with whatever is appetizing to him. And he is never satisfied, and so he keeps going back for more of the same, in his pride and arrogance.
Now “wine” doesn’t have to be just in the category of an alcoholic drink which makes someone physically drunk and mentally unstable. It can be anything which is hypnotic and addictive in nature which consumes someone’s mind to the point of them making foolish and irrational life choices, often to the detriment of the people who they hurt in the process. And this can have to do with sexual addiction, or addiction to power, control, and domination, or to anything which is harmful to self and to others.
Often people in this category are those who are malicious, morally impure, deceptive, manipulative, self-serving, opportunistic, liars, untrustworthy, and egocentric, who fake being one way while they are living the opposite of what they project to others, much like the Pharisees of Jesus’ time on earth. And they may give off the appearance of being “Christians” and righteous and law-abiding and faithful and people who stand up for what is right and who support what is of God, but while they do not practice what they say.
Many of them are actually undermining the gospel message and the commandments of the Lord and the teachings of the Scriptures, and they are altering them to make them more acceptable and non-offensive to human flesh, including their own flesh. And so they act as though they believe in Jesus and in what the Scriptures teach, and that they stand for truth and righteousness, but while how they live, and/or what they teach, does not promote death to sin and walks of obedience to our Lord.
So, they are like on a teeter-totter going back and forth between acting as though they are righteous in the sight of God and that they stand on truth and that they are against the lies, while in reality they are some of the most vicious, cruel, hateful, spiteful, crooked, immoral, deceptive, and self-serving people that exist. All the goodness is on the outside for show and to gain support while they are hiding what they are doing underneath where we cannot see what they are up to, which is not good, and not for our good.
Some of them, thus, are pastors of “church” congregations. Some of them are “Christian” book authors or musicians or talk-show hosts, etc. Some of them are in just about every area of life on this earth in all sorts of jobs and careers where they have opportunity to influence other people. And some of them are the heads of our nations, and the people who serve them and who are under them in authority who support them in the evil that they are doing. Outwardly they may appear as all good, but they are evil, instead.
“He also gathers to himself all nations
And collects to himself all peoples.”
And this fits the description of those who have political authority and power and control over not only their own nations and people, but who are gaining more and more power and control over the people of all nations, which is what it talks about in Revelation 13 and in other Scriptures, both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. For there is a beast which is forming and which is gaining much ground and which is taking control over all nations in order to bring all of us under this totalitarian one world government.
And this beast is very clever in what it does and in how it is conquering the people and the nations of the world to bring us under this rule of the beast. And if we are paying attention to what is going on in the world and in our nations presently, and if we are taking what we are seeing to the Lord in prayer, seeking his counsel, and if we are willing to hear from the Lord, he will show us who the “good guys” are and who the “bad guys” are so that we will not fall prey to following the beast instead of following God.
So, just know, especially with AI everywhere now, just because you see it with your eyes, or you hear it with your ears, or you read it in the news or on social media or wherever, it does not mean that it is true. Anything can be faked and altered and photoshopped and AI created. We see evidence of this now daily on social media and on the news. And people on the internet, some of them, may be AI created and not real people at all. And political left and right are just for show, for they serve the same people, the elite.
So, don’t be duped into believing the lies and not the truth. Study the Scriptures for yourselves, but study them in their appropriate context, comparing Scripture with Scripture, for they should not contradict one another. And pray for spiritual discernment with regard to preachers and teachers and pastors and heads of state, especially those professing faith in Jesus Christ or who are teaching the Scriptures. And ask the Lord to show you who is of God and who is not, according to the Scriptures.

O my God, have mercy on me!
In the Lord, my soul takes refuge.
In the shadow of Your wings, Lord,
I find shelter till the storms pass.
I cry out to my God Most High.
He fulfills His purpose for me.
He sent His Son to die for me,
So I could be saved.
I am in the midst of lions;
Men whose teeth are spears and arrows;
Whose tongues are sharp; words accusing.
They spread a net, my feet to catch.
They dug a pit, in hopes I’d fall.
O God, be exalted o’er all.
Let Your glory shine to all men,
So they may be saved.
Steadfast is my heart, O my God;
I will sing of all Your wonders.
Awake, my soul! Sing praise to God!
Early I will rise and praise Him!
I’ll praise God among the nations;
I will sing among the peoples.
God’s love reaches to the heavens,
So we may be saved.
