While all the theologians were oblivious to their
Messiah's birth, sheep minders received a divine
invitation to worship baby Jesus. Heaven's
databanks are crammed with such stories.

Jesus rejoiced in the Almighty hiding his secrets
from those who are wise [in their own eyes and/or
in the eyes of the world]. Instead of revealing
his spiritual truths to the theologically
skilled, the Lord of lords chose the ultimate
insult to those who pride themselves in their
intellect by revealing these liberating spiritual secrets to the unschooled.

Like it not, God is God. He determines what he reveals and to whom.

Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus said, "I praise
you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because
you have hidden these things from the wise and
learned, and revealed them to little children. . . ."

The "wise and learned" that Jesus spoke of were
not secular humanists but people whose whole
lives revolved around God and the reverent and
meticulous study of his Word. They were the Bible
scholars, theologians and highly esteemed
preachers of his day who had become so
intoxicated by their own cleverness and devotion
that God kept them blind, deliberately bypassing
them and revealing his spiritual secrets to simple people.

Spiritual essentials for accurate Bible interpretation. Beyond hermeneutics to true understanding

Well, there might have been a couple of theologians who knew Jesus was coming.

Mat 2:1 Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,
Mat 2:2 "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him."
Mat 2:3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Mat 2:4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.
Mat 2:5 They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:
Mat 2:6 'AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.'"

I always wondered that the chief priests and scribes didn't recognize who this was, even after it was pointed out to them.

Interesting BAC, while not wanting to change the subject, is is debatable whether these were theoligians or simply Gentile stargazers who recognised an ancient sign long believed to be of great portent to mankind. There is much evidence that the stars were so used of the ancients (originating with God) to tell the story of salvation, from creation to the second coming. Astrology was a later invention used to destroy this hope.

But Coconut, good article, and so very true. We who pride ourselves on our spiritual insight best be very careful that we are not putting God in a box and miss out on what He is doing all around us.

Maybe a scant dozen or so...

I always wondered that the chief priests and scribes didn't recognize who this was, even after it was pointed out to them.

Cause they were chiefly more concerned with being chiefs maybe?

I often say some [experts] have their noses pressed so close to the painting they can`t see the picture.

... revealing his spiritual secrets to simple people.

and what were
or are
the simple people
meant to do with
"his spiritual secrets"
whatever they are meant to be?

and how were they to live thereafter
or
didn't that matter
so long as they had some
"spiritual secrets"?

what do we have that we did not receive
and
if we received
is that gift
grace
we received
the Gospel
precious
and alive in us
or do we merely put it on when it suits
so we can be like the "wise and learned"

But ye have not so learned Christ;
If so be that ye have heard him,
and have been taught by him,
as the truth is in Jesus:
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,
which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
And that ye put on the new man,
which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:20-24

I often say some [experts] have their noses pressed so close to the painting they can`t see the picture.

and some
experts or not
can not help themselves
and want to change the picture they see
adding to it or taking from it
forgetting straight away

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word,
which is able to save your souls.
But be ye doers of the word,
and not hearers only,
deceiving your own selves.
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way,
and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty,
and continueth therein,
he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed James1:21-25
