Love this post, thanks Chad. The armour of God is something I am working on as I do sometimes feel attacked and suffer anxiety attacks. I agree with your interpretation and was meditating on this passage from 2 Samuel 22:31 , David's Prayer of Deliverance:
"This God - His way is perfect;
The word of the LORD proves true;
He is a shield for those who take refuge in Him." (ESV)
I love these three lines. Firstly that his ways are perfect give me such a sense of trust even when things seem to be falling around us that even in his wrath or disciplining, you can trust that the moves and decisions he makes are right and perfect.
Secondly that the word of God and His promises prove true, what a great passage to remind us of the power of His Word and that we can rest in the knowledge that what we read in the Bible is true and will be proved true if you put it into practise. This relates to the sword of the spirit and belt of truth.
Finally, that He is our shield when we have faith in Him, rest in his steadfast love and put our hope in Him, the everlasting God, El Olam (Hebrew).
In my understanding of spiritual warfare, God ultimately is in total control and the armour of God, like prayer is our partnership with God, essentially doing our part in the battle. This makes sense as a way of God giving us the dignity to help in the fight and struggle as opposed to doing everything for us. This strengthens our knowledge and understanding of Him, deepens our relationship with Him and gives us a role to play in His creation.
Best,
Jonathan
