Which version would you say would be the nearest translation to be correct then?
As I would prefer to be reading from that one rather than the KJV even.

We'll probably get kicked out because we as born again believers do not believe in Legalism
But hopefully we'll be able to plant a seed, before our exit.

Born in 1852, Charles Taze Russell founded the Zion's Watch Tower in 1879 and later incorporated the group under the name Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society in 1884. Because of his rejection of the doctrine of Hell, he would go on to reject nearly every other Christian doctrine as well as add many physically and spiritually dangerous doctrines of his own making. Many of these unique and bizarre teachings were to be found in his six volume series titled, Studies in the Scriptures.
Beginning with only a few followers in the 1880's, Russell began to spread his message to the world. In 1893 the first "national assembly" was held in Chicago. It was attended by "about 360" followers of Russell's teachings. At the conclusion of the assembly, Russell explains, "The Calvary Baptist Church of Chicago very kindly granted us the use of their baptistery; and, in all, 70 symbolized their baptism into Christ's death by immersion into water" (Jehovah's Witnesses In The Divine Purpose, p. 33). It was from this first national assembly that the idea for local assemblies grew into today's practice.
Russell died in 1916 and was replaced by the second president, Joseph F. Rutherford. "A process of replacing Russell's writings with Rutherford's began in 1921 with the publication of Rutherford's Harp of God. Between 1921 and 1941, Rutherford was to write twenty books and numerous pamphlets, which would slowly revise the doctrine and structure left him by Russell" (Encyclopedia of American Religions, G. Melton, Vol. 1, p. 485).
One of Rutherford's books that caused a great amount of controversy was the seventh volume of the Studies in the Scriptures. As a result of this replacing process, Rutherford had many critics. Some of the former followers of Russell's theology left the group and began their own organization. This was the beginning of groups such as the Laymen's Home Missionary Movement and later the Dawn Bible Students Association. Because of the confusion being caused by these and other new groups, the name of the organization was officially changed in 1931 to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses In the Divine Purpose, p. 125-127).
It was under Rutherford's leadership that the organization began to experience its phenomenal growth. In 1928, the organization recorded 44,000 members and by his death in 1942, their membership had grown to over 115,000. Part of this growth can be attributed to Rutherford's insistence that the world was about to end and Armageddon was to happen any day.
The next president, Nathan H. Knorr, would streamline the organization and begin a worldwide outreach strategy that has survived into the 1990's. In 1943, he began the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead. This was to be the forerunner of the Jehovah's Witnesses teaching methods of today. It was also under Knorr's leadership that the New World Translation was published. This translation, published in six volumes between 1950-1960, supports many Jehovah's Witnesses doctrines while ignoring accepted rules of language translation. At Knorr's death in 1977, the Watchtower had over 2.2 million members (Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1978, p. 30).
Under the leadership of Frederick W. Franz, fourth president, the Watchtower reached a total membership of over four million members. With Franz death in 1992, the current president, Milton G. Henschel, took the helm.

An excellent book to read before talking with Jehovah's Witness' is by Raymond Franz (nephew of Fred), who was disfellowshipped in 1980 and went on write Crisis of Conscience, which is and excellent resourse.

ESV (English Version Translation) is the Bible my Church (Eagles Landing First Baptist) uses. I like it a lot. For the last 28 years I have loved my Good News translation. But like you, I want the most accurate to study. The ESV is a word for word translation, (as opposed to translations that are phrase for phrase). I highly recommend it.
I have a NWT (New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures). The Jehovah's Witness organization uses the NWT and in it many passages were deliberately altered to be taken out of context and used to support their false teachings. But It is still the word of God and The Holy Spirit can speak through it. The Holy Spirit's role in our lives as interpreter of scripture and the source for pure spiritual food, is not based in brooklyn but in our hearts. Knowing the Holy Spirit is required to understand any translation. He is not some "active force" but a very real friend. He is the only one that open our minds and hearts to "accurate knowledge" (and wisdom).

It is certainly important to understand some of the JW's odder teachings within the context of the NWT. For example, John 1 in the NWT reads..
"..and the Word was with God, and the word was a God..."
This is how they are not only able to teach the Jesus is not the incarnate God (he either is or is not the Archangel Michael, depending on which decade it is), but that the s**** is also a god.
Its also important to remember that they teach the Holy Spirit as being an 'impersonal force' because it is a tool that prevents members from having an personal relationship with God. (Only the leadership in Brooklyn have that privalige). So many good people, who genuinely seek God, are mired in this organisation and others like it. So to those, like rizen, who reach out to them, you will continue to get my prayers.

I'm interested in how you intend on planting that seed, you've given me food for thought here, Rizen1 as we have a JW meeting place near us.
Strypes, does the ESV then use the names Yahshua and YHVH and Yahweh or any of these, as I don't think there'd be any point to read another version unless the had, I like the idea that it is a word for word translation though, and not phrase for phrase.

If I sit in one of their bible study's I get the opportunity to challenge their practices in peace ( not in debate or hateful manner ). I've tried witnessing to JW's and when I pull out my bible, they step back and have to leave but they always tell me
"you have to come to the bible study to understand everything.''
I'm hoping that invitation is still open.
Well last week Wednesday I had a great opportunity talking to a catholic minister about Halloween and where the church should stand. We visited the Parish hoping to meet with the Priest got some minister instead.
The meeting was great, we went in peace, we used his own doctrines to prove our point that Christians should not celebrate Halloween. We agreed on many points, but I never got him to say " yes the Church should not participate in Halloween. I know for a fact he went home thinking about what we said. I pray that God opens his heart.
God has placed it in my heart, to sit with these people, I would not recommend anyone attending their services, but bible study in any denomination is open for discussion. And I love to talk...lol.

Not always an easy job in this crazy world...
Alot of people ask me if I'm from some SNM group because I use the name Yahweh. I personally know some Missionaries and a few Christian preachers that use the names Yahweh and Yahshua in Church service, and some people have asked them that same question.
If you search online you will find many Christian churches that are now sharing the name Yahweh, and for giving glory to Him.
Many of the teachings that Yahshua gave had shocked alot of people, as they were not used to learning those kind of teachings, as many were following after mankinds teachings and traditions.
Even some of his Disciples had a hard time comprehending certain things at times. Yahshua often had to speak in parables too, and it really makes me wonder if we have only just begun to learn. Look at what he said -->
John 3:12 If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
The point is, Yahshua showed us Love, and he taught us the truth, and the world rejected him and crucified him. He asked the Father to forgive them in his last minutes. That's true Love!
In these last days many of Yahweh's wonderful truths are being revealed, and we will know His true children "our brothers and sisters" by the fruits. (John 13:35)
I do not come here to get anybody to follow after me, but only to learn and share the Word of Yahweh unto righteousness for bearing good fruits, and for leading others to know Yahshua my Master, and all for giving Yahweh the glory he deserves, because he loved us first.
Just because somebody calls themselves a Messianic, Christian, Sacred namer, or whatever, that doesn't mean anything by itself. If they can't love one another then they don't even know Yahweh. (1 John 4:8)
May Yahshua be with you always in this forum and everywhere else.

Call upon Yahweh, He hears and knows your heart.
Pray to the heavenly Father in Yahshua's name to guide you into His truths by His spirit of truth.
I like reading the ISR scriptures, but we must put our faith in Yahshua "the eternal living Word of Yahweh" and lay him to heart so he will be in us.
Look at these scriptures it might give you better understanding (John 5:39-43).
Everything is because of Yahweh loving us first, and it's now our turn to prove that we Love Him back. That all starts here --> (Mat 22:36-39, 1Thess 5:21)
You see they didn't remove His Word that teaches us how to Love Him, and our relationship is not with some particular bible or church, but with Yahweh that we come to through His living Word and son Yahshua Messiah.
The more we love Him, and one another, the more they will both dwell in us.

May I ask you where you find the name "Yahshua" in biblical text. I can not find it. Is it possible that Yahshua is a corrupted spelling just like Jehovah?

Yahshua is an attempted transliteration of the original Hebrew or Aramaic name of Jesus commonly used by individuals in the Sacred Name religious movement out of Christianity. Those who follow Sacred Name teachings (such as the Assemblies of Yahweh) believe that it is essential to salvation to use the correct pronunciation of the name of the one most Christians call "Jesus". The SNM is listed as a cult among Jehovah witnesses and Mormons. Assemblies of Yahweh and House of Yahweh is also on that list.

I went to the town Christian Book Shop today and the little girl was telling me that they have asked Hebrew people who visit the shop which version would they say is the nearest they said, KJV was top, American Standard next and then E.S.V third, so they don't rate it above the KJV and they are Hebrews.
What you make of that now?

I will share something that most all current Christian Bible scholars will agree with, and so that people can research this further.
#1 Our Messiah was born a Jew in Bethlehem, and His parents did not name or him Ίησους or (Iēsous).
#2 The Greek Ίησους or (Iēsous) is the rendering from the Messiahs Hebrew name יהושע.
#3 The Jews called him הושע in Hebrew and ישוע in Proto-Hebrew/Aramaic, and many still do.
#4 Hundreds of thousands of Middle East non-English speaking Christians currently use הושע and/or ישוע for the Messiah, and the most accepted Christian English pronunciation would be spelled Yahshua.
#5 Our Messiah came in the Father's name, and the Heavenly Father's four letter name in proper English spelling for pronunciation would be YHWH from the Hebrew HVHY, and as shown in the Tetragrammaton.
#6 Hebrew does not use English vowels, and English vowels are used for spelling and pronunciation for the Father and Messiah's name, as well as all other Hebrew and Aramaic names found in the Bible, such as but not limited to "the Jewish Disciples and Prophets names".
#7 The Early Aramaic or Proto-Hebrew alphabet was developed sometime during in the 9th - 1Oth century BC, and replaced the Assyrian cuneiform as the main writing system of the Assyrian empire.

I will share something that most all current Christian Bible scholars will agree with, and so that people can research this further.
#1 Our Messiah was born a Jew in Bethlehem, and His parents did not name or him Ίησους or (Iēsous).
#2 The Greek Ίησους or (Iēsous) is the rendering from the Messiahs Hebrew name יהושע.
#3 The Jews called him הושע in Hebrew and ישוע in Proto-Hebrew/Aramaic, and many still do.
#4 Hundreds of thousands of Middle East non-English speaking Christians currently use הושע and/or ישוע for the Messiah, and the most accepted Christian English pronunciation would be spelled Yahshua.
#5 Our Messiah came in the Father's name, and the Heavenly Father's four letter name in proper English spelling for pronunciation would be YHWH from the Hebrew HVHY, and as shown in the Tetragrammaton.
#6 Hebrew does not use English vowels, and English vowels are used for spelling and pronunciation for the Father and Messiah's name, as well as all other Hebrew and Aramaic names found in the Bible, such as but not limited to "the Jewish Disciples and Prophets names".
#7 The Early Aramaic or Proto-Hebrew alphabet was developed sometime during in the 9th - 1Oth century BC, and replaced the Assyrian cuneiform as the main writing system of the Assyrian empire.
#8 The majority of English Christian Bible Scholars agree that the name of the Heavenly Father should be spelled Yahweh for proper English pronunciation.
#9 The majority of English Christian Bible Scholars agree that the Messiah's birth given name should be spelled with Yah because he came in His Father's name, and Yah is used within many other Jews names in the Bible, and directly in Psalms 68:4
#10 The majority of English Christian Bible Scholars agree that the Messiah's birth given name should be spelled with Yahshua in English.
#11 Many English Christian Bible Scholars agree that the Messiah's birth given name can also be spelled Yehshua in English.
#12 The above English vowels do not change the original meaning of the Heavenly Father's or Messiah's known Hebrew names as they are used for pronunciation purposes only.
#13 The proper meaning for the Messiahs given name is "Yahweh is salvation and/or Yahweh saves".
#14 The Hebrew V letter sounds like an English W, and the proper English pronunciation of the Father's name does not have the English V or vee sound.
#15 The current name for the Messiah that is spelled Jesus was formed a few hundred years ago, and after the letter J was invented, and the letter J is the last of the 26 letters to be added to the English Alphabet.
#16 The original 1611 KJV English Bible and other English Bibles did not use the spelled name Jesus or the letter J.
#17 Many older English Bibles that our ancestors read from used Iesus for the Messiahs name.
#18 The correct pronunciation for the Messiah's name does not have the English J sound, and it never did in Hebrew, Greek or Aramaic, but the J should sound like the letter Y.
#19 The English letter J replaced the letter Y throughout most modern English Bibles for Jewish peoples names.
#20 The name Jehovah is an inaccurate translation and erroneous
rendering from the original Hebrew name of the Heavenly Father, and the name Jehovah was created by a Roman Catholic. (Note: Only Jehovah Witness Bible Scholars will fuss to defend that erroneous name, however they will also admit that the name Yahweh is correct.
#21 The modern English name spelling Jesus came from the Greek Ίησους Iēsous translation, and the Greek spelling and pronunciation of the Messiahs Jewish birth name starts of with a silent "I" that sounds like the English Y. The last "s" in Iēsous is also silent. Note: Searchgodsword.org has the Greek pronunciation of his name within the strongs#2424 to hear online, or click the name Jesus using the strongs on that bible site.
#22 There are several English Bibles that use the name YHWH or Yahweh and Yahshua, and many are used by Christians, and many are used by Messianics, and many are used by the Sacred Namers or SNM.
#23 The word Messianics carries the same meaning "anointed ones' as the word Christians, and the word Christian is a literal translation of "mashiah" that's used in the Greek Septuagint version of the Bible, from the Hebrew word Mašíaḥ. The Greek writing is Χριστός, and the English translation from the Greek is "Christos" meaning Christians.
#24 Many people today often get the Jewish Messianics and English Messianics confused with the sacred name movement "SDM". The truth is that Yahshua's disciples and his followers were all called Messianics, and the Romans called them Christians, because both Hebrews and Romans were living in Israel at that time.
#25 The meaning of the names in the Bible is the most important thing to understand, because their names are pronounced and spelled differently in all languages throughout the world.
#26 Calling on the Heavenly Father's name is a salvation issue (Rom 10:13) and being baptized in His name is a salvation issue (Mat 28:19), and He said that His Children will know His name (ISA 52:6)
#27 Yahshua said we won't see him return until the people say "BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF YAHWEH" (Mat 23:39)
#28 Lord is not the name of the Heavenly Father, but the word Lord was used over 6079 times to replace the heavenly Father's in most of today's
English Bibles as confirmed in strongs # 3068, and as proven in the Hebrew scrolls.
#29 The Messianic and Christian faith started in Israel and from the teachings of Yahshua Messiah who is a Jew.
