Romans 2:17-24 NKJV

Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God, 18and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, 19and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law. 21You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? 22You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? 24For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.

In the world today, what this is speaking of is a matter of those who hypocritically profess faith in Jesus Christ, who can recite Bible verses, who know intellectually what the Scriptures teach, who know the commands of God under the New Covenant, that we are to obey them, who are indeed those who instruct and who teach others in the things of God, according to the teachings of the Scriptures, who will even defend the Scriptures, but who do not live them, but who live against them, as a matter of life practice.

They know the commands of God. They know what God’s word says about the kinds of things that we are not to do as those who profess faith in Jesus Christ. They are not ignorant. And many of them are very scholarly when it comes to the teachings of the Scriptures. And some of them are pastors of church congregations, or they are missionaries or evangelists, and those who teach others about right and wrong, but who themselves do not practice what they preach. But rather, they do the opposite, by habit (addiction).

Romans 2:25-29 NKJV

25For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? 27And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law? 28For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.

So, as those who profess faith in Jesus Christ, how can we apply these biblical principles to our lives today? Basically, what this is teaching us is that going through the motions of religious practice, making a verbal confession of Christ as Lord, getting baptized, joining a “church congregation,” faithfully attending Saturday or Sunday services, paying your tithes, and going through religious rituals and ceremonies which have been passed down from generation to generation is not what determines our salvation from sin.

For we are not Christians who are Christians only outwardly, superficially, by going through the motions of religious rites and rules and ceremonies, speaking here of what is regarded as legalism, which is of the flesh of humans, and not of God. We may look good, sound good, and sound as though we really know the Scriptures, but if we don’t live it, in practice, we are just hypocrites putting on a performance. And I am not saying we must all be perfect, but that we should be those who live what we preach.

And to be a Christian inwardly does not mean that we remain silent about our faith in Jesus Christ and that we keep it hidden from others so that they will not hate us and reject or mock us. For to be a true follower of Christ we are to deny self, die to sin, and follow our Lord in obedience to his commands. And this should be shown outwardly by our works which are of the Spirit, in us bearing spiritual and biblical fruit for the kingdom of God. And we are to be sharing the gospel of Christ with the people of the world.

Hello Darkness

Sadly, it seems today that the majority of those who profess faith in Jesus Christ, at least here in the USA, do not believe, in truth and in practice, in the gospel of salvation taught by Jesus and by his New Testament apostles. So many are believing the lies which tell them that all they must do is profess faith in Jesus and now they are good to go, while many of them continue in deliberate and habitual sin. But even many who know the truth are still living in addiction to sin, so they keep returning to their vomit.

So, darkness (sin) is their “old friend” who they keep going back to over again. And so they create their own imaginary world where they can profess to be Christians while sin is still their god. And this is predominantly but not limited to sexual immorality, and more specifically in the area of adultery which has to do with lusting after others to whom one is not married, according to Jesus (Matthew 5:27-28). And this seems predominantly in the area of porn addiction and all that comes along with that, including the lies.

For those who live in addiction to sin, some may put on a performance of all goodness while in secret they are living a double life. They are not walking in obedience to the Lord, in practice, for sin is still what they are holding on to. But they cover it up with lies, and with performance, for their hearts have not changed. What is stored up in their hearts is still coming out in their addictive behaviors. So by their hypocrisy they are blaspheming the name of Jesus who died on a cross to deliver us from our addiction to sin.

Your bond is broken with your Lord and Savior
And your testimony is separate from Him.
Your words not matching your actions today.
Repent of your sin and bow down and pray.
Live what you testify in truth always.

Purity’s lacking in your life and witness,
For you profess one thing, but other you do.
Not moral, spiritual. Still of the flesh.
Not living in truth to what you confess.
Lying about it puts you in a mess.

Living a lie is your practice, ‘tis true of you.
Masquerade righteousness – none of it true.
Your heart is not given to your Lord God.
Because of how you live, you are a fraud.
Turn from your sin and give your life to God.
