He is not even mad under the New Covenant and He is not in the business of creating bad things or situations.

Are you saying that God no longer chastizes people? What about Rev 3:19NIV - "Those I love I rebuke and discipline."?

Not at all. I believe I am saying that our connotation of chastise and rebuke differ.

Here is is what I believe:
These words are used more as strong and affectionate, and as his Father loved him; and more accord with the New Testament of love and grace, not in a way of wrath, but in a tender manner, in order to bring them under a conviction of their sin and of their duty, and of their folly in trusting in all their wrong ways; and they are chastened by him, not in a vindictive, but in a fatherly way, which is instructive and teaching to them, and for their good.

The God of law of doing and wrath was replaced with the one word, Love (New Covenant). Jesus explained this change in his own words by saying (paraphrasing):

  • Love one another or your God in Heaven won't love you (Law, Old Testament) (He said this before He died, upholding all of the Law)
  • Love One Another as your God in heaven Loves you (after death and resurrection and now under New Covenant)

gOD CAN USE IT ALL FOR HIS BENIFIT!

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20

Frankly, sometimes I don't feel very thankful. Yet as God's children, we are to thank Him all the time for everything. But there are some very bad things that happen to the child of God: sickness, sorrow, disappointment, death, divorce, etc.

Why does God allow these things, and how can we possibly give Him thanks always and for all things?

The Sin Factor

First, we must remember that we live in a world that is cursed with sin and filled with sorrow. Romans 8:22 says, "For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain..." Natural disasters are results of sin's curse.

Our bodies also bear a curse. We are "the children of wrath" (Ephesians 2:3). Romans 5:12 says, "...by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin..." Everyone of us have a terminal illness; we're headed for death. Our physical frailties are reminders of this curse.

This is not the world God created it to be; it has been marred by sin. But we can thank God that one day He will create a new heaven and a new Earth. The curse will be undone, and creation will be delivered.

The Chastisement Factor

We may, in difficult times, find ourselves under the chastening hand of God. Hebrews 12:5-6 teaches, "... My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord,...For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth."

His chastening doesn't mean He doesn't love us; it means that He loves us too much to let us get away with sin. At times like that, we ought to thank Him.

The Dependence Factor

In his book Crowded to Christ, Dr. L.E. Maxwell proposes that God gives us problems so we will depend on Him.

For example, Paul asked God to remove his "thorn in the flesh." (2 Corinthians 12:8). God answered in verse nine: "...My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Then Paul stated, "Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me..." If our troubles cause us greater dependency, we thank God.

The Maturity Factor

God teaches us great lessons and matures us during difficult times. Psalm 119:67 says, "Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept Thy word."

Romans 8:28-29 says, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." And His purpose is for us "to be conformed to the image of His Son..." If affliction causes us to mature spiritually, then we can thank God for it.

The Patience Factor

Could it be that God is simply working patience in us? Psalm 27:14 says, "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart..."

Sometimes, we ask, "Why doesn't God do something?" But God might be doing something by not doing anything else. If God is teaching us the virtue of patience, shouldn't we thank God?

The Ministry Factor

When bad things happen, they may enable us to minister to others. Second Corinthians 1:3-4 states, "Blessed be...…the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."
So Thank Him that you can help others.

The Glory Factor

Somehow, when we suffer and yet praise God; it gives Him glory. First Peter 4:12-13 states, "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you…But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy..."

Stephen was not delivered from being stoned for his faith (Acts 7). But to this day, we are talking about his faith and how God's glory was all over him. If God is being glorified in our lives, we should praise Him.

The Mystery Factor

We may never understand why some things happen, but God is sovereign. In Isaiah 55:8, God says, "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the LORD."

Sometimes, we feel that God owes us an explanation; but if God loved us enough to send His Son to die for us on the cross, we never have to doubt His love. We can trust God and obey Him — regardless of the circumstances or consequences.

Real faith is not primarily receiving from God what we want, but it is accepting what He gives. He is good and faithful. So thank Him and praise Him anyway.

I did not get a chance to watch all of the videos yet. You need to look into the Sovereignty of God. Sometimes He causes things to happen. Other times He allows them to happen. Either way He is always in control. Look at the story of Job. God allowed Satan to do certain things to Job but did not allow him to do other things. God is ultimately in control of everything. It is all a part of trusting Him.

Just some thoughts:

The Lord is not nearly so limited on His perspective as us. To Him death as we think of it simply does not exist and the things that bear weight are the eternal.
This life is simply a test.
To properly answer your question would be difficult with only the choices you have provided.

God allows people to make choices and there are consequences. Each persons consequences affect others like intermingling ripples in a pond. That is the result of man's sinful nature and ultimately can be traced back to the garden.
Then there are times of testing and trial. Jesus being nailed to the cross, the Apostles being martyred, Job's testing- these were direct results of the Father's will. Each of these souls grew in relationship with the Father until their eyes were fixed firmly on the heavenly. Satan had no place in them and they were just pilgrims awaiting the time they could go home. Ultimately this was a reward and not a punishment.
Then of course there are acts of judgment. These can be terrible but are both always preceded by a warning and a chance to repent for those who still stand afterward.
This list could of course go on- the privilege of being a martyr, etc.
Trying to put the Lord in a box so to speak misses the big picture.
We then must remember that no matter what we go through His love never fails and He works all for our good.

Amen.

Is God responsible?

God created the Heavens and the Earth. This we know.

God created angels, a third fell, a failed coup. This we know.

Fallen angel(devil) deceives Eve, Eve deceives Adam. This
we also know.

Hence, we all fell or better said we are unable to obtain
eternal life, death came into existence. Evil prevails. This
is contained in the book of Genesis.

Now the obvious question is God at fault. No sir, the angels
could freely choose to obey or disobey. Wonderful free
choice those angels had.

Was God wrong to allow the Devil to speak to Eve. Once again
no, Eve has the right to listen to God or the devil. She too had
free choice.

Hence, good and evil are at war on our planet. God sent His son
to die for us, His rescue beacon. The devil continues deceiving
great numbers of people. What's changed in all this time?

Now for the finale, we cannot know God and Eternal Life without
the work of the Holy Spirit. God has provided additional support
by providing the Holy Spirit. God is only responsible for loving
both His angels and mankind both you see make choices.

If you want to see just how much Love God has for you. Look
no further than what His son gave for us. His life.

Thank you, Jesus, you have provided us with not only
eternal life but also a clear and detailed explanation
as to why we are the way we are. Why the World has
such problems etc.

Is God responsible for loving you, He cannot help Himself
He is Love.

bad things happen becasue we live in a fallen world where sin exists. I think people should stop blaming God for what man does of his own free will.

God has a Perfect will and permissive will !
Of course all in His perfect Will is HIS Best!

In His permissive will? He will allow lots!
It was never in his perfect will for any to sin or suffer!

but in his permissive will , He allows us to make mistakes!

divorce is in HIS permissive will!

Grace is in His permissive will! Perfect LOVE is his perfect will !
He hates Sin. It only took one sin to destory an entire planet and everything on it!

Sin allowed and forgiven is under HIS permissive will! still He hates sin !

Still He knows , we are living in a defiled world , dwelling in defiled bodies , under attack from evil falling angels [demons] and a world of people that do not love us!

So in His permissive will . He can have mercy on us !

His Perfect will of course for None of his children to ever sin!

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

He wants us walking and living Thur our hidden man [our spirit man]

Is it God's will when bad things happen ?

the video it didnt' work for me, it just lead me in a circle.

so on this subject
this is very hard for me to explain partly because it is a thread of new thoughts and new concepts ..a new way of me thinking about this subject which might explain what hell is and what salvation really is . if I can just get my head around it better. i'm still praying about it.
I'm still working on it , I dont think I got the whole message yet.. sometimes it takes us changing from the inside in order to learn a new concept.

but i'll try
so what was the tree of knowledge? wasn't it the void God calls death ? a Void of darkness/emptiness where man chooses to go to do what he wishes either " bad or good" in that place a man does not want God to see or be part of his plans ?
so the void 'death" he may not "know" what goes on in that place exactly . does the father chooses not to "know " or chose to not 'see' what is in that place? because of some kind of laws he set in motion about what 'death' and 'sin' and 'free will' are at our creation? and so was death and mortality a gift, a mercy for our choices of wanting to be lawless and to be with out him?
in the same way why does jesus say " I never knew you " to some who even claimed to be praying and healing in his name? but he says "I never knew you"
A God who doesn't know everyone on earth ? who doesn't know the ones who are trying to do for him and in his name ?.....odd statement hum?
maybe because everything they did was still lawless and in the void and not with the Lords light and life and leadings and cleanings and washings , they did it all with formulas not leadings no relationship to the light required to work a formula right .
At the same time Paul tells us to not even think what the sinner does in secret/ is secrets things from the void? of course ... is this a picture of how God has his back turned on the Void that he named " death" ? scripture also says " let the dead bury the dead" sounds cold hearted or is it? it is not if you have and are offering the answers to real life!
If he is not in that place where man has chosen to go to live and do good or bad but without him/God looking in .. then what goes on there is not of God is it ? Isn't ownership of that void and everything in there born of mans creation in his kind and will ? and even death maybe was the gift he gave us because we choose to be lawless/lifeless,it is we have chosen to live in the void/'death'. death is man special place to do what he can imagine without god interfering. that trail goes off into what hell is..
so back on track
why do we think the jews built the golden calf at his feet .. to run him off of course!

but this we all know! wherever He is , there is always intense light and life and yes he can even kill us with his life so he is careful ......if ever he went there (not as a man)to the void .. if he would .. those of the void would just run shreaking into the darkness from him for fear of God's light and laws those laws which are there to create and maintain true life.
I didn't see the video but
Chances are what the man is really upset about is most likely upset that there is a hell.

things are sometimes very hard in the light.. and worse in the dark.

If we do not keep His Word then we put ourselves out of what God has given us so freely to enjoy in Christ Jesus through His Spirit. He has given Himself to us through Jesus Christ for He loves us exceedingly.

Its not His will that we suffer in any way!
Psalm 35:27 says, " Let the Lord be magnified who seeks the prosperity of His servant".

God bless you.

Jesus himself said: "all good things come from above". Note, he said all, not some or even most but all.

Aren’t you thinking of James 1:17, RJ? "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

Anyway, Rizen1, if you haven't already, I’d really encourage you to look into the background doctrines of those behind these videos and the website they come from. Their doctrines have been controversial to say the least, going all the way back to The Way International, founded by Victor Paul Wierwille.

They reject the balanced biblical position that forms the substance of the teaching on the Trinity. The knock-on effect from this distortion is truly immense. They believe the Holy Spirit is holy spirit. They dismiss eternal condemnation or punishment. They mainly use intellectual acrobatics to reach their conclusions. There's probably no other way!

I did a mini-study of sorts into this subject after reading Don’t Blame God, by John W. Schoenheit, Mark H. Graeser and John A. Lynn. I’ve waded through a lot of their material and to be honest after 34 years as a Christian I consider it well and truly off-center.

In line with my conclusions I was interested to read the following by Randy Alcorn on Don’t Blame God:

Unfortunately, in spite of its subtitle, the book's premise is not biblical. The book "exposes the myth that God is totally in control of all that happens (which would make Him responsible for it) and shows that He and His Son Jesus Christ are doing all they can to intervene in the realm of the Devil and help us." While correctly blaming the devil for hating us and trying to hurt us, this book misses the sovereign work of an omnipotent God, who is not helpless in the face of Satan's works, and can and ultimately will use even those evil things for His glory and His people's good.

Randy Alcorn, (author of If God is Good) on Don't Blame God!

Alcorn’s If God Is Good is a very good place to start with this subject. I’ve read about half of it so far and it does a good job of getting the balance right, in my opinion. It's clearly built on the foundational stuff.

I’ve listened to Alcorn speak several times and read other material he has produced.

I spent several very tedious hours tracing Truth and Tradition beliefs back through their own publications and online resources. I've a heap of material stored.

I’d have to conclude it’s best to stay well clear of these doctrines. They are a subtle distortion of balanced Truth, so subtle in fact, it's easy for some to miss it altogether.

Is it God's will when bad things happen ?

I've always heard people say ( In the past I've been guilty ) " God's will be done. Or if it's your will Lord to heal this woman so be it Lord.
When someone dies they say stuff like, it was God's will he's in heaven now.

So vote and tell me, is it God's will and why.

After you vote and post, then watch these videos., Please be honest and vote & post before watching the video. I need honest answers on how you feel on the subject.

Thanks God bless.

God is a good, loving, compassionate and merciful God. He walks in truth and excellence. There is NO evil to be found in God.

How can a loving God with a pure heart, One with such love and kindness and mercy and who dwells in truth be responsible for ANY thing evil, I ask you?

Yes, things happen, especially since the world we currently live in is ruled by the powers of darkness? God gave temporary use of the earth and temporary dominion to Satan. He will not go against His own words or promise, no matter how it may hurt Him.

Do you not think that God knew all these things will be happening when He gave dominion to Satan? Yes, Satan still knows his limitations and some boundaries he dare not cross for fear of the consequences.

Even so, God's mercy is from everlasting to everlasting and in spite of Satan's machinations and dastardly deeds, God is still sovereign and His mercy steps in to ammeliorate situations and events that could have been even more disastrous.

We serve a good and kind God whose loving kindness defines Him and forever seals Him in our hearts as such. We should not think such thoughts about God because it is unfair to him, no matter how much pain we are in. We ought to remember everything that He has done for us and will do and we should rise above those thoughts because that is the enemy trying to blame God for his own wickedness and evil doing.

The only thing I'm certain of (or care about) concerning hell is that it represents complete separation from God and His blessings! As to the quote "...I never knew you"(Mt 7:23), "knew" means "I never had a close relationship with you".

do bad things happen to test our faith? how will we know if our faith is strong if we have a perfect life without troubles. It's easy to prasie God when everything is good, but can we praise God when your family leaves, no job, pain in your life? God does not what weak believers , we are to be strong in our faith. what better witness is there when our life is falling apart and we still love God.

@smitty: Yez! Praise him in the storm. :)

@OP: Gah, the wording on this question! No, I don't think it's God's will for bad things to happen. More accurately, looking at the bigger picture, I think it's God's will when good things happen.
