Now of course we are all brothers and sisters in Christ... but I'm speaking about Jesus's earthly family here. His half-brothers and sisters here.
Matt 12:46; While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him.
Matt 12:47; Someone said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You."
Matt 12:48; But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?"
Matt 12:49; And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!
Matt 12:50; "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."
Jesus is addressing both His spiritual family and His natural family here, but He considered His spiritual family more of a family than His natural family. ( Also see Mark 3:31-35; and Luke 8:19-21; )
Matt 13:54; He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?
Matt 13:55; "Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
Matt 13:56; "And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"
Matt 13:57; And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household."
The carpenter's son. This would be Joseph, but of course Joseph wasn't Jesus's biological father, still he was the father that God chose to be His earthly father.
Four of His brothers are mentioned by name here. We find out later that two of His brothers were also disciples. ( James and Judas )
It mentions that He has sisters (not "a" sister, but sister"s", as in more than one).
John 2:12; After this He went down to Capernaum, He and His mother and His brothers and His disciples; and they stayed there a few days.
... to be continued ...
