SignUp Now!It is interesting to read what Eliphaz the Temanite said in Job chapter 4.
He starts off by saying from verse 12: "Now a word was brought to me stealthily, And my ear received a whisper of it. 13 "Amid disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night, When deep sleep falls on men, 14 Dread came upon me, and trembling, And made all my bones shake. 15 "Then a spirit passed by my face; The hair of my flesh bristled up. 16 "It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance; A form was before my eyes; There was silence, then I heard a voice:" This was a visitation from a spirit creature, but it was no angel. It was in fact a demon or perhaps Satan himself who had instigated Job's predicament. Notice what lies this demon spirit says about God, which influences what Eliphaz later says to Job. After all, if Eliphaz was inspired by God to say what he says here, why would God later rebuke him in chapter 42:7-9? Verse 17 continues: "Can mankind be just before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? 18 'He puts no trust even in His servants; And against His angels He charges error. 19 'How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth! 20 'Between morning and evening they are broken in pieces; Unobserved, they perish forever." (NASB)
Notice the slanderous statements this demon spirit attributes to God, verse 18 says: "He puts no trust even in His servants; And against His angels He charges error." Then the demon spirit goes on to say, in verses 19, 20, if this is how God treats His angels, then humans go on unobserved and perish forever. It is the kind of spiteful vindictive retort a fallen angel would say to get back at God's judgment against him.
This is not in the bible by accident, there is an important lesson to be learned from this. If someone comes to you offering you counsel claiming God has told him to give you, do not automatically assume it is from God. Just as Satan and his demons gave false counsel to one of Job's false comforters, he can quite easily do it again. So when someone offers you counsel, claiming it is from God, make sure it is in complete harmony with God's word the bible.
Quick question: When we read the words of the 3 friends of Job, do we consider THOSE WORDS as the Word of God, as Godly wisdom? Do we try to apply them in our life? I mean considering they ended up being WRONG.
