2 Tim 2:14; Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.
2 Tim 2:15; Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
2 Tim 2:16; But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,

It seems we live in a society where we want our opinions to matter. We want to be heard. Even if what we are saying doesn't edify God.
You almost get the feeling people are looking for value. Maybe if they say enough things about enough different subjects, maybe they will find value somehow.

It seems there is a lot of word twisting even here on TalkJesus, people mix verses and half-verses that have very little or nothing to do with the subject at hand.
Instead of "accurately handling" the word of truth, we see how far we can twist it.

Ecc 5:2; Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few.

Spreading the gospel is one thing, but bringing up things just sake of argument and debate is another.

1 Cor 2:1; And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.
1 Cor 2:2; For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.
1 Cor 2:3; I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling,
1 Cor 2:4; and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
1 Cor 2:5; so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

Some people think that if they use enough logic and big words, they will sound wise. The Bible says to avoid using many unneccesary words.

Prov 10:19; When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

It's almost as if we think we are "more godly" if we debate the Bible.

Tit 3:9; But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

Thats one thing I loved about Paul he was so educated he could of easily spoke above everyone, yet for the sake of many he spoke at there level humble at all times. I am one that does not have to worry about being to intellectual :) lol but I really think that does hinder some people more then it helps them. Like you suggest BAC the arguing and debating just so someone can prove how smart they are seems to get more obvious as I grow.

I was just reading James this morning about taming our tongues. I like the analogy he used compared to a ship rudder the captain can control the huge ship with such a little rudder. Boy can we get in trouble with our little tongues.

4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet hit boasts of great things

James was also saying not many should be preachers, yet like you suggest BAC everyone wants to be herd now adays.

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2 For d we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, e he is a perfect man,

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver
Proverbs 25:11

Matt 12:36; "But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.
Matt 12:37; "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
