Luke 14 Vs 25-26 Can someone explain this to me as its got me confused. Thank you !!

The Cost of Being a Disciple
25Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.

In some cases the voice belief in Christ meant being 'put out of the family' , still does in some places.

Can you elaborate more for me ?
Your father is a respected man in town, he even sits in judgement of the local matters occasionally. One day you hear him speak of a man doing the works of the Devil and that the man should die for his crimes. You get curious and venture out to see this evil man for yourself. What you find is Jesus healing people and teaching from the Scriptures. You follow a ways and end up in a field. Thousands are there as well , all wanting to hear what He has to say or be healed by His touch. Just as you get hungry His friends come by and ask everyone to sit in groups. You are close enough to see they have no supplies and yet they being passing out a nice picnic lunch to thousands of followers. When you get home your tell your father of the great things you've heard and seen. Father looks sternly and declares 'No follower of that blasphemer will live in my home ! Repent of it or leave today !

When a person comes to the Lord, particularly the full gospel, then often other members of their family will condemn them or attempt to persuade them to come back to their denomination or worldliness.
Unfortunately, I have seen people called by God and even new converts turn their back on the full gospel and surrender to the call of their family or spouse or partner.
My own family shuns me because I am converted and born from above - because my testimony shines a light upon them.
A true disciple must in the end make a choice between love of Jesus and salvation or love of their natural relatives and partners.
Some people are lucky in that their family also come to the Lord as well, but often it can be a divisive issue in a family or marriage (even leading to divorce).
I only ever see my sisters and nieces and nephews at funerals.

yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.
This part is about discipleship and denying our carnal selves (our sinful nature) and putting to "death" these desires.
Romans 6 and 7 and 8 and Galatians 5 are good teachings on this conflict.
A true disciple is an overcomer by the power and work of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Mat 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

Before anyone can "love" another person correctly they must love God first and foremost. God is "Love" and His love that is shed upon us is reflected back to others only after we first love Him.

Very well said.

I beleive what Jesus is saying here is that you have to be willing to put aside everything to be a disciple. That includes family, friends, and even your own desires.

He probably meant more like hate the wicked deeds, and do not put family first over God if things they are doing contradicts God and his son, not the person. Jesus taught members of their own household would be their enemies. Matthew 10:36) Spiritually speaking. Those who are spiritual enemies are enemies to God and his son as well. Jesus didnt actually teach to hate individuals, he always taught-Love, peace and unity.
Jesus teaches all-- Matthew 6:33--Therefore, keep on seeking-FIRST- the kingdom and his( Father=YHWH) righteousness and all these things will be added( sustenance, covering, spirituality)-- When Jesus said first= ultra important a true follower does this, And if one does, Jesus promises his Father would provide all 3 of those things if needed. Spirituality is always needed. First over family, seeking an abundance of $$$. and seeking pleasure to satisfy the flesh.

Butch 5 hit the nail on the head....it is written "You shall have no other gods before me". If and when He is numero uno everyone else who is important will be fine but if forced to choose between God or father, mother, spouse, child, etc.. choose God. Also, in teaching, the ancient Jewish mind often spoke (and wrote) in near hyperbole. It was a form of setting up contrast. It is like when Paul said there is none righteous, when in fact he KNEW some were, because God Himself said they were and made them such. Was Paul then against God or His word? Not even close....

So if family or friends reject you because you follow Jesus then shake the dust off your feet and leave them behind....now of course Jesus does not even want you to "hate" others in the sense that the modern western mind understands this term or else He would be contradicting His own command to even love your enemies. Do you see?

I don't think Jesus meant hate like you and I use it!
I think it is suffice to say, that Jesus means if your not of à mind to put God above ALL , you cant be His Disciple !

It is a quote of Jesus Christ and shows exactly how He personally spoke of the generation He lived in . Is it the real Christ you love or one of your own construction ?

Actually Jesus teaches this- Matthew 6:33--Therefore keep on seeking-FIRST- the kingdom and his( Father=YHWH(Jehovah) righteousness and all these things will be added( sustenance, covering, spirituality)-- Not to seek Jesus righteousness but to seek his Fathers. He sends his followers to his Father-They then accomplish this-John 4:22-24--24/7--365

So, I am familiar with the guote. He is saying He is not concerned with the dead; it is the living he is here for.
But still have no idea what you are talking about??
