ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED? YES and NO!

So what is your take on Hebrews 12:14 where we are told to "........pursue holiness, without which no one will see the Lord"?
Follow after peace (eirēnēn diōkete). Give peace a chase as if in a hunt.
With all men (meta pantōn). Like Paul’s use of diōkō with eirēnēn in Rom_14:19 and his to ex humōn (so far as proceeds from you) in Heb_12:18. This lesson the whole world needs including Christians.
Sanctification (hagiasmon). Consecration as in 1Th_4:7; Rom_6:19, etc.

Holiness , [ hagiasmon (G38): ’sanctification’] - distinct from God’s "holiness" [ hagiotees (G41)] (Heb_12:10), which is absolute, and which we are to put on, becoming "holy as He is holy," by sanctification. While ’following peace with all men,’ we are not so to please them as to make God’s will and our sanctification secondary: this latter must be our first aim (Gal_1:10).

Unless, of course, we are to believe the Wesleyan view of already obtaining "absolute holiness/sanctification" in this life.

You rightly translate "holiness" as "sanctification"....that's not what I'm questioning. The question revolves around the word translated to "follow" or to "pursue". As in, what is your take on what it actually means biblically to "pursue" holiness. What does that look like for a believer today? What are the repercussions (if any) for not doing it?

You want the long version, or a short, condensed "two liner" version?

Is it because you don't know, or do know the answer to your question?

Is it because you want to peiradzo, or dokimazo me?

Not being facetious

There was nothing malicious in my question. I was being sincere. I am/was just genuinely curious as to how YOU personally would see the PURSUIT of holiness (sanctification) playing out in a believer's daily life. As in, do you have more of a monergistic or synergistic view of this "pursuit?"

Very simple.

I can read it with ease

1Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

No boasting

Dear Johann,
So, there was no reason not to have added it then for those who could not.

I await your confirmation to add the translation to your original post.

I don't hold to a Reformed or Arminian view...

These two views were heavily debated in the early 17th century when followers of Arminius published The Five Articles of the Remonstrance (FAR), a document stating where their theology differed from that of Calvin and his followers. The pivotal point in this debate is between the Calvinistic doctrine of unconditional election vs. the Arminian doctrine of conditional election. If one believes election is unconditional, then one will tend toward a monergistic view of salvation. Conversely, if one holds to a view that election is based on God’s foreknowledge of who would believe in Him, then one tends toward the synergistic view.

.....and it was up until a few years ago that I stumbled upon these "viewpoints"....hence, this then makes absolute sense...

There are more than 45,000 denominations globally. Followers of Jesus span the globe. But the global body of more than 2 billion Christians is separated into thousands of denominations. Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, Apostolic, Methodist — the list goes on.

So, which one do you hold?

Me, I go by what the Bible says, believe every word as true, but do enjoy reading opposing "viewpoints"

Like, is eternal, eternal in Scriptures?

Is the nephesh immortal, or no? Going to be destroyed in hades?

Where do believers go upon death? To the grave, or to be with the Lord?

For unity of brothers and sisters in Christ, imagine the christians back in Paul's and Peter's day Paul was taught the gospel from Jesus Christ personally and other mystery things

the christians did not have the bible to read every night and to find out if this word really means this or does it actually mean that and other translations to argue and fight about. they certainly could not sit around and argue about Arminian and Calvinism or once saved always saved doctrines so how in the world did anybody get saved up until the word of God was published for the whole world to read?

I will let Paul who was taught by Jesus the gospel Faith Acts 16: 30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” yes good old fashion faith not waking up and going well today i need to produce good fruit for my account or and add some good works to my account no Paul's gospel is not that or he would have told them you have to keep working for your salvation.

CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was. Every single person who ever lived since Adam will bend their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. this would come naturally seeking his forgiveness

this is really simple and this gospel we are called to defend it against all those who would add anything to the gospel as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus Our Lord

Some people think well there's more to the bible than just that yes there is but it is not our job unless we have a personal friend family member that we can bible study with and also help them but the holy spirit will teach them all truth the person does not need us as much as they need the holy spirit as told in scripture

We only have Eternal Life And Security in The Lord Jesus Christ And Him Alone all of those other things like fruit works comes naturally because of our love for Jesus and we will never know just how much fruit or works we have done until we stand before the Lord Jesus Christ at the judgement seat for our rewards so to argue and debate on that sims to be a waste of time because we don't know only God knows all of our good works and fruit that is on our account unless somebody in here can tell me all of the works and fruit they have done and gathered but i don't think they can.

All of the forums i have been to who believe in osas usually bring the people who are well fornicating with their girlfriends and girls with there boyfriends and lesbians and gays they want to freely live in sin with no regard for what God has to say. and if the osas people would help them and show them there error it would be great but they dont they defend sin sometimes better than our enemy.

I believe in Eternal Security but i dont get from scripture where you can be a mass murder or commit suicide be a killer or be a christian then stop and start preaching another gospel or living the the rest of my life in sexual sin but if somebody else does than that is your choice.

Jesus showed me through his word how i should live my life and i will try with his help to do those things that please him. some would call that works but i have been saved already i call this being obedient and you can't be obedient to Jesus unless you have been born again.

this word seems to terrify them Jesus said those that love me obey me i don't know why.

But we should not take lightly the warnings that were given to us like this

Jesus Greater Than Moses

3 Therefore, holy brothers,[a] you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2 who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God's[b] house. 3 For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4 (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) 5 Now Moses was faithful in all God's house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, 6 but Christ is faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.[c]

A Rest for the People of God

7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says,

“Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,
on the day of testing in the wilderness,
9 where your fathers put me to the test
and saw my works for forty years.
10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’
11 As I swore in my wrath,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’”

12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. 15 As it is said,

“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

16 For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? 17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

1 Colossians 21-23 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Faith always saves what about the test in the book of job it was about faith in God no matter what happen to him he never fell away to unbelief or departed from the faith and the living God.

We who believe in Eternal security Through Jesus Christ don't think we can't sin or don't think we dont sin but we just don't want to live are lives in sin out of the love we have for Jesus Christ our Lord.

If other christians want to fornicate and disregards what God says about that then you will answer to him not me so i don't want to debate that would be your choice and for the others who put hypotheticals like if im a christian for 40 years and i sin then the next day i die i go to hell really do you know of anybody that has done that? probably not and speaking for myself im a single man for 15 years and have had many girlfriends and a wife i would know exactly what i was doing if i gave in to fornicating or adultery

but since i have sinned i would ask for forgiveness just like i do when i have sinned before. remember you can only ask for forgiveness if you know something you did was a sin adultery fornicating being a drunkard having orgies having hate in your heart for someone and lying theft stealing these things a christian who has read the word of God would know was a sin but a lot do not care what they are doing and what God said about it.

if they gave into the flesh they could ask for forgiveness for there sins we do have a high priest in the Lord Jesus Christ but the ones who dont i would be very worried about them and if you knew someone like that you could show them the right way through the word of God and let the holy spirit take it from there and if they don't want to change well that's on them they have made a choice.

I have taken some time with this but i felt compelled by the holy spirit to tell my brothers and sisters in love that in these last days for the age of man and soon returning of our Lord Jesus Christ that we stand in unity together in defence of the gospel and help a dying world and the people in it because for them who are not saved this world and the things they have are there paradise and heaven, by getting the gospel message the good news out to as many people as we can for our time is really short.

So let us not debate unless it is to show someone there error on accepting another gospel or helping a brother or sister in Christ who is walking far away from Jesus and turn our attention to a world were there are so many spiritually dead men and women who do not know what's about to come on the face of this earth in the great tribulation.

here are somethings i post online and in forums around the web

Christ Crucified The Gospel Saves

There Is Peace And Eternal Life Only IN The Lord Jesus Christ

Testifying Both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, Repentance Toward God, and faith Toward our Lord Jesus Christ. acts 20:21).

1 Corinthians 15:1-6).

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ

Galatians 1:11-12).

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone that believes, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16).

for the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.(1 Corinthians 1:18).

Titus 1 acknowledging of the truth

1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness

2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

Jesus Promises A Eternal Future With Him Thank you Jesus

The Millennial Reign Of Christ On Earth For 1000 Years

Then We Go to Our New Heavens And Earth Plus Our New City Were God Will Be with Us Forever

What An Amazing Future We Have Because Of The Lord Jesus

What will life be like with King Jesus Ruling The Whole World Seated On His Throne

Christ Will Visibly Reign

Jesus Christ will visibly reign. Many people will survive the tribulation -- it is the armies of the nations and the beast that are killed or judged

and Jesus will rule over remaining humanity. From Jerusalem, often called Zion in the Bible, Jesus will lead. And people will love his leadership! Consider:

Isaiah 2:3–4 (ESV) — 3 Many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

4 He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.

Isaiah's description is of an age of total peace, one where Christ is judging the nations. On that day, Zechariah says, "the LORD will be king over all the earth" (Zechariah 14:9). David was promised a descendant to sit on the throne forever, and Jesus is that descendant (Jeremiah 23:5).

The Church Will Reign With Him

Believers today will be with Christ tomorrow, leading and living in glorified bodies during the golden millennial age.

Consider these statements from Paul:

1 Corinthians 6:2 (ESV) 2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world?

2 Timothy 2:12 (ESV) 12 If we endure, we will also reign with him...

The prophets made it clear the earth will experience a population explosion during the millennium. With the curse suspended or at least greatly decreased, Isaiah and Jeremiah said infants would no longer die, everyone will "fill out their days," so that death at age one hundred will be considered young (Isaiah 65:20, Jeremiah 30:20).

And the new human population will grow to love and adore Christ.

Listen to the prophet Micah:

Micah 4:1–4 (ESV) — 1 It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it

2 and many nations shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

3 He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide disputes for strong nations far away; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore

4 but they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken.

All this will lead to joy, happiness, and biblical justice throughout the world. It will be a time when “the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Isaiah 11:9).

Nature Will Be Reborn

The sixth element of the millennium is that nature will be reborn. The earth's topography will also be rearranged as the wilderness and dry land become lush and fertile (Isaiah 35:1).

Thorns and briers will be replaced by huge trees, providing clean air and shelter (Isaiah 55:13). Crops will grow with ease. Food will be plentiful (Joel 2:24-26). Everyone will be able to afford Food Water

The animal kingdom will no longer have a predatory nature -- the wolves and lambs, leopard and baby goats, lions and calves, bears and cows will intermix (Isaiah 11:6, 65:25).

Children will be able to lead even the strongest predators because they will all become herbivores (an animal that feeds on plants.)

(Isaiah 11:7). And we will no longer have an adversarial relationship with the animal kingdom as even wild beasts and poisonous snakes become docile and safe under King Jesus' leadership (Ezekiel 34:25, Isaiah 11:8-9).

I've already pointed out human life will flourish -- people won't die young and will be healthy for much longer (Isaiah 65:20, Jeremiah 30:20).

Isaiah says there will be much less disability (Isaiah 35:6). Christ's presence will curtail cancers and make us new. The dominion we lost at the fall of Adam will be restored.

Satan Will Be Bound

(Revelation 20:1-3). 1* Then I saw an angel come down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the abyss* and a heavy chain. 3and threw it into the abyss, which he locked over it and sealed, so that it could no longer lead the nations astray until the thousand years are completed.

Judgement of Satan

7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.

9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Judgement Of The Dead

At the end of these thousand years, the books will be opened, and those who belong to Death and Hades, along with Satan, are thrown out of God's presence into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10, 13-15).

10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation,
and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart;
they have not known my ways.’

Dear Brother,
Amen!
I needed that today! I guess one can say we at times, though we shouldn't, need a reminder of who we serve, and why, but as much as that goes the flesh is still weak though the spirit is willing.

For the believer no greater joy can be found then in our Lord and Savior Jesus, whose return we await, for the unbeliever what they're missing, and who they need, right now in their lives! Jesus!!!

Preach on brother!

Again, thank-you for sharing!

With the Love of Christ Jesus, keep the faith!
