Probably a dumb question

@Jessca95
Greetings,

What does it mean to truly seek God?

to do what you are doing.

That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us:

Acts 17:27

One might ask, "what does it mean to truly seek anything?"

If i were to ask you that, what would you say?

Bless you ....><>

Jessca95, If you begin with the Book of Beginnings, Genesis, YHWH, your God, might, very well, speak to you. I found YHWH when I cursed Him out because I felt He had let my fellow Texan Friend take a 122mm Rocket in the chest, that night in An Khe, Vietnam. I had just, as an Atheist, began, with all of my heart to seek Him out, I wanted to prove, beyond doubt, that there was no God. YHWH spoke seven words to me that night because I needed those words to believe. So it is, you see, there is no formula to follow beyond getting into the Word of YHWH to search Him out with the heartfelt desire to know Him in a personal, one on one, way. I have since 1/1/1990 helped over 400 to 600 find The Living God, YHWH. The greatest aide has been the Book of John. I asked them to pray for YHWH to reveal Himself by opening the Scriptures of John to their Minds and Spiritual Hearts. It is not a long read and I asked Prisoners and Freeman alike to read through it no less than five times, back to back during the following week.

Doing that and finding Our God and LORD, made the Old Testament in the King James read perfectly clear. Before that the old Testament was gibberish to me.

“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).

This is so often tossed out there without any help to solving the core problem, “How do I begin to believe?” However I wanted you to begin from the beginning. With you seeking Yashua, a.k.a. Jesus there is no possibility of you being saved. On the other hand, just the knowledge you have, should scare you to death.

I do not know of a single person in the Industrialized Nations that does not know of the Mythical Hell and does not want to spend a moment there. The truth is much worse and fearful than any of the myths I have learned during the 76 ½ years of this journey of mine.

The truth of the matter is found in Luke 16:

19 “Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, enjoying himself in splendor every day. 20 And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and longing to be fed from the scraps which fell from the rich man’s table; not only that, the dogs also were coming and licking his sores. 22 Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s arms; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 And in Hades he raised his eyes, being in torment, and *saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his arms. 24 And he cried out and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set, so that those who want to go over from here to you will not be able, nor will any people cross over from there to us.’ 27 And he said, ‘Then I request of you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— 28 for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not come to this place of torment as well.’ 29 But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30 But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31 But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”

NASB

As nearly as I can reckon it the opposite of Abraham’s Buxom {Arms in the NASB} has been twisted by untaught folks into Hell and I see, from time to time where those same people believe Abraham’s Arms, Paradise, is Heaven and the place of torment would then be Hell. However a Read-thru of the Holy Scriptures will cross this Luke 16 passage as well as to the passage found in Matthew 27:

50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and gave up His spirit. 51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. 52 Also the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many. 54 Now as for the centurion and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the other things that were happening, they became extremely frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

In Verse 52 and through 53 we see the Old Testament Saints, as they are mistakenly known as, have left Paradise, rising up from the grave and marching through the Holy City, on their way to Heaven and I propose, following Yashua.

I hope all of this helps.

So you’re saying that I can’t be saved because I’m seeking him?

So you’re saying that I can’t be saved because I’m seeking him?
I have never and will never tell anyone such an evil thing. Anyone can be saved up until the Brain ceases to function, IMO. You can be saved this very moment if you believe Yashua (Greek translation, Jesus) is the Son of God, born to life on Earth by Mary, betrothed wife of Joseph. If you believe that and are truly sorry for the sins you are guilty of, all you need do is, with aching heart, call out to Him for Salvation and promise, repent, to work towards no more sin. FYI: Living the life I did, I cried like a baby when I prayed that prayer because I truly deserve to go to The Lake of Fire but, have been saved unto Eternity in Heaven with Father God and His Son.

With you seeking Yashua, a.k.a. Jesus there is no possibility of you being saved.
(I thought this was a bit confusing as well.)

"... no possibility of you being saved" can read as "... no possibility of you becoming saved."

But it can also read "... no possibility that you are saved." As in, "if one is saved there is no reason to continue seeking."

Hope that helps a bit,

I confess to frailty in my speech preparation and the closer I get to 80 the more I forget to proofread. If you read further down you will find that she asked me about that post and that after the dental pain drug let me awaken I corrected this non-Biblical answer.

Posting theology while on pain meds... it can get quite interesting. Just trying to help out, as language is more than a hobby to me. Glad to hear things are getting better for you.

What does it mean to truly seek God?
Good question! I suppose first we should ask (and attempt to answer) 3 questions: First, what does it mean to “seek” anything? Second, how is “seeking” different from “searching”? And finally (and most importantly), what is God’s Word trying to tell us when it talks about “seeking” after Him?

We can address the first two questions all at once. According to the Cambridge Univ. English dictionary, the fundamental difference between “seek” and “search” is that the object of “seek” is the actual item (or person) you are trying to locate, whereas the object of search is the place you are looking in. So in English terms, we could say “seeking” means trying to locate God….or more accurately, trying to BE where He is.

“Searching” for Him is pointless if we take Him at His Word, because He is omnipresent(in all places)…but He isn’t always necessarily near to us….spiritually speaking that is. There are so many people who “search” for God in a PLACE, like inside the walls of a church or in someone else’s words, or even in a book.
But to truly “seek” Him means to find a “spiritual connection” to Him or in other words, to have a close, personal, relationship with Him….to commune with Him. That can happen in ANY physical place….but it MUST happen in your heart and soul first and foremost.

Now we can take a brief look at what God’s Word has to say about “seeking” and take a closer look at how the original word “seek” was translated. First off, someone please correct me if I am wrong….but between Hebrew and Greek, there are around 10 different words in scripture that are translated into the English word, “seek.”
We can take a look at two that I believe are most applicable to your question:

First, let’s look at how the prophet Jeremiah used it in Ch 29 of his book of prophesy: “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” -Jeremiah 29:13

In this scripture “seek” is translated from the Hebrew, baqash; which, in this context means “to look for or consult.” This word has been used to describe seeking something that’s lost or missing, to seek one’s face, or to devote oneself to something. In this context, the children of Israel have lost their personal connection to God (they have “forgotten His face”) and are being called upon to seek Him once again.
So, in this context, it would mean to seek God’s face, or to seek His counsel, or to devote ourselves to making Him a part of all that we do!

Second, we can look at how Paul uses the term when addressing the church in Romans 3:
“There is none who understands; there is none who seek after God.”
- Romans 3:11

In this context, “seek” is translated from the Greek ekzeteo, which means, “seek the favor of God.” So to “seek” Him in this sense would mean we already “know” Him (have a relationship with Him), but are seeking His will for us or for His favor or blessings in some matter.

I apologize for the loooong response….but I feel that this is a very important (and deep) question and deserved a more in-depth reply. Hope it actually helps and didn’t simplt cause confusion!
May God bless you and may His Holy Spirit steer you in the seeking!

Thanks for that an excellent tool that can help us to seek God when falling from his grace as a labor of his love that does work in those who do believe .as it is written .

Big difference between searching (not believing) and seeking that which has already been found.

Because we do have the mind of Christ we can seek after his presence when we fall.

To make it as clear and simple to a little child. "who are you seeking", The child respond; is, I am seeking GOD. My question was directed to my sons and daughters was; not if you are looking for Him where would you search. Their reply, "In The BIBLE". Now why would my little kids respond in such a way?

(Proverbs 22:6)KJV
King James Bible
Train up a child in "The Way" he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

And why would i direct them that "Way"?
"Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,)" (Hebrews 10).
(John 1)KJV.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

King James Bible
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

And i would see the amazement in their little eyes.:pensive: I kept it real! I never taught them to be good little christians. or good little boys and girls.
I taught them according to the Book the WORD of GOD.

And GOD told the "Israelites": (Deuteronomy 6)NKJV
The Greatest Commandment

1“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3Therefore hear, O Israel, and [a]be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

4“Hear, O Israel: https://biblehub.com/nkjv/deuteronomy/6.htm#footnotesThe Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

6“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates..

But my wife taught them different, but how to be good "Emily Post" creatures and how to become "millionaires". Behind my back and to be "Prosperity Gospel" believers. But i know on "judgment DAY" when we all will have to give an "Account of all our Stewardship' that concerning our children, i did according to your instructions the best i could. Why, Because I love them, not by a fleshly type love but a love for the "SALVATION" of their souls! "We all are going to give account of our stewardship." And what was the motivating force, behind our declarations. For HE knows all "motivating factors" of our movements.
Was it by "command" given by GOD Our LORD. Or was it by our own earnest desirers.

1 Corinthians 1:30
It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.:pensive:

Now will people love you for doing so? No! But if they obtain "Eternal LIFE" they will love you through out Eternity, where there is no end.:pensive:

New King James Version
However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

New King James Version (Hebrews 11:6)
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

New International Version (Isaiah 55:6)
Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
New Living Translation
Seek the LORD while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.

I believe there are some good answers here what it means to truly seek God and I believe you are doing so. What I would ask you is what have you found? What have you taken with you so far? What is it that you still want to know, in order to feel more confident in making a commitment to make Jesus Lord of Your life? I would say truly seeking God is not stopping until Jesus is your Lord and Saviour.

" Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

And then when you find Jesus, you have found God. Then it is no longer seeking, but pursuing Him and living for Him and with Him.

Honestly I don’t know. It’s like I know these are the facts. He’s given me what I’ve asked for so what is wrong with me? Why haven’t I made me the lord of my life? I’ve said the prayer but I don’t know. I don’t want to give up on this though because I don’t want to spend eternity in hell. If it’s easier to messsge me you can do that. I don’t feel like I have the faith I need

I don’t feel like I have the faith I need
And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not. So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
