Sabbathkeeping in addition to Sunday Lord's Day: 1st Century Christians
My brothers and sisters in Christ, you could not have given me a better present today at the turn of 2006. Ever since I started observing the sabbath (I am a "Sabbathkeeper", tradition of First Century Christians and it is one of my focal points, of my obedience to Him - because as He is embodied in His Law, obedience is a "love language" to my Almighty Father - to keep this very important commandment) I mean it, my life turned around in ways I cannot describe. I truly believe on the Seventh Day when "God rested", that He still rests - to be with His Children - that's you and me. For us it is a matter of obedience, because it is a commandment, and a way we show our love to the Lord is to keep this time with Him. In our family we keep both days - Saturday as a day of rest, and Sunday as "The Lord's Day" with traditional worship in churches where Sabbath isn't kept, it seems, by most.
It warms my heart beyond words that there are so many of you here that seem to understand this concept, that God repeatedly asks in OT Scripture, BEGS His people to "KEEP MY SABBATHS!". Not just once, or twice... but many times. That should tell us something. And yet, most of the mainstream Christian world seems to ignore this. In the NT, Jesus Himself kept the Sabbath, and isn't that a clue? In Luke, Jesus stated that "The Sabbath was made for Man - not man for the Sabbath", meaning, the Sabbath was "made for Man..." not the other way round, that meaning... hello... it's a "gift" from your Heavenly father! Jesus was even more specific when He said, if you had a sheep or donkey in a ditch, you'd take *care of it*. But otherwise, there's no reason not to spend this time worshipping, loving, communicating through the Holy Sprit - it's "your day" with the Lord - who would want to waste that? The Bible is explicit, in black and white: not even thy handmaiden is to work, and the tradition is sundown to sundown. I have found myself preparing for the Sabbath, it's on my mind all week - getting everything done in the house and preparing food beforehand, is so great to relax about on that whole day, which is a wonderful time to read scripture, and the *rest itself* makes me so wonderfully peaceful, and the time itself is spent so very connected to God... I'll tell you, you can feel the joy as the sun sets, and many Christians who begin this practice can feel this effect profoundly. :star:
It's really amazing to me that so many "cherry-picking" and "devout" and "legalitstic" churches have let a whole COMMANDMENT go into a state of disrespect, and sometimes try to justify this by using highly questionable interpretations of scripture... well... Jesus kept the Sabbath. What ELSE do we need? What about "Thou shalt..." don't they understand?
God bless you all in His presence in 2006, and I pray you are closer to Him each day, and forever in His Grace.
