Are we as Christians to run away from spiritual battles or stand and fight them?

A verse which seems to promote fighting these spiritual attacks states:
James 4:7 says "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."
and in other verses Jesus rebuked His disciples because they weren't able to cast out a demon (indicating, standing and fighting).

but in others verses is seems that we are to run away stating,
"Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body."
1 Corinthians 6:18

In the first verse the devil is the one fleeing,
and in the second verse you are the one fleeing.

What is your personal interpretation of the Bible on how we approach these spiritual battles?

Perhaps (generally speaking), we should flee situations of temptations(sexual), and maybe flee people the provoke us
as to not escalate conflict, but in terms of demonic attacks or the battle for our mind, we attack it head on in the spirit?

Our enemies are the world, the flesh, and the devil.
I can change my location in the world and take a break from the world system at times (turn off the news, etc, etc),
however I cannot escape my flesh and the devil is already around. So perhaps fleeing temptations in the world
makes sense, but fleeing the devil or the flesh doesn't because everywhere you go the devil is there and your flesh is too.

Love to hear your thoughts @Br. Bear , @Waggles , @MedicBravo , @PloughBoy , @Dave M , @Andyindauk, and everyone elses.

1st. let us tackle this: "

What Is a Disciple? 1st. he is "learner" then a follower. Paul said: "Follow me as I follow CHRIST". And on a another occasion he said; if a man does not follow me or walk as I do, mark that man, and do not follow him.

King James Bible
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
New King James Version
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
New American Standard Bible
Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

Romans 16
"Now I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who create divisions and obstacles that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Turn away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.…:eyes:

1. The devil
2. The World
3. The Flesh

One must know, whom he is warring with! That takes SKILL. Sometimes it is one, Sometimes it is TWO, AND SOMETIMES All Three, they have become "ALLIES".

Have you forgotten your "WAR" Book! The OLD TESTAMENT!:sob: Have not you Observed The TATICS of GOD! Depends who the enemy is? And how many kings you are going up against! and the time of DAY:sob:

Note: and each enemy have "Lieutenants":eyes: and "Scouts" and don't forget those spies:eyes:

This is how it rolls:
"Or what king on his way to war with another king will not first sit down and consider whether he can engage with ten thousand men the one coming against him with twenty thousand? And if he is unable, he will send a delegation while the other king is still far off, to ask for terms of peace.…"

Proverbs 20:18
Set plans by consultation, and wage war under sound guidance.

"Paul I know, Jesus I Know":eyes:

Example:

In my younger Days, trained in "Full Contact" Karate, "Okinawa" style, I came in to "DOJO" one day, clean up and suited up, began my stretches, a Few guys where "SPARRING". I went back to the locker room :eyes:and change, walked back through the "training area. "SENSEI" ask me where I was going. I Said home. He replied, you just got here, I said, I know. He said why was I going home. I said, so I can, FIGHT TOMORROW! That if I fight today, I might Not, be able to fight tomorrow! I myself have sent people to the Hospital.

A person Sent me to the hospital, one time too, by me taking a blow on purpose!:eyes: He put me out commission for a month! LOCK MY WHOLE BODY UP! A FOOLISH mistake, from that day on, I took no more blows, you couldn't hit me!, You couldn't, grab me, I do not care how hard you tried!

So, in doubt, do not, get off The Porch! This arena is not a game! until you have been grab by The BEAST and He have put his TALONS in Your SOUL! AND NOW, YOU KNOW what you are dealing with. So when you go into The BATTLE you are "WELL EQUIPPED" AND you have "ALL the ARMOR of GOD" in place. and a Pocket full of OIL! and Not the kind that comes in a "BOTTLE"! And your "ANGELS" have come alone too!

Old QUOTE: "Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread" :eyes:

Many think they have encounter and rebuke devils, Satan, has an "ARMY" who are specially equipped , Specialist and have RANKS! with skills! given these abilities by "GOD":pensive:, and their mission is to make war, with The True children of GOD Only!

That is why you must read your Bible, your Bible is a war book! So many BATTLES from "GENESIS to REVELATION" Blood every where! Beginning with ABLE! Even The GOATS have to hide! but The Day will come "The LAMB will lay down with The LION" and "The Goat with The WOLF" The SPARROW will FLY With The HAWK" as The EAGLE soars with Delight , into The HEIGHTS:relieved:

Follow "Direct orders " and when in doubt DON"T"! God knows whether you are EQUIPPED for the task. "Go with what you know"

Many times Paul has said, the devil hinder me and I could not come.
I battle with wild beast at ,,,,,,,,,,,
All have forsaken me and I am Left all alone.
_________would stood all of my [our] words, be careful of him.

So much we must know, we are ever learning and always will be. and still if a person has not come to terms what is in the unconverted man. and who he really is. and why there is a "LAKE, Burning with "BRIMSTONE and FIRE" slow your roll.:eyes: We are cover by "GRACE and MERCY" and by a "ANGELIC Beings...ff.

Direct orders sounds good.

Concerning this passage you referenced, I'm sure you know that Jesus used that prior to stating, whoever will come after me must deny themselves, take up their cross and follow me.
Then he goes into talking about counting the cost, and uses that example about counting the cost.

So while I agree with your feedback regarding "direct orders" and I will learn from it, I just wanted to comment that I'm not sure if that illustration about
counting the cost to follow Christ directly relates to whether or not one should fight the devil.

But perhaps, the two could be connected because if you are following Christ, then that means fighting the devil?
So if you don't count the cost of what it means to follow Christ, you make also not be counting the cost of the battle
that is ahead of you with the devil. Perhaps?

I understand what you are saying, but I know I am not talking to a school yard pup. So in essence. my "mark' was conveying a "Thought" and not the content concerning The text it was drawn out of! And The "MARK" was HIT! and you saw the surrounding trees, that surrounded The Tree that had THE "MARK" on it! BULLSEYE! :sob:

I would offer like the Son of man, Jesus when tempted he looked for the words of the father who dwelt in him. Three times in Mathew 4 with three denoting the end of a mater the father gave the words to his prophet Jesus as it is written again and again it made the devil flee (strike three) the same authority by which we can flee sexual sin .

Flee from temptation (for temptation is not sin, it is normal, it is what we do with being tempted that can lead to sin), fight the enemy who is against Christ and the message of His work. Counteract their arguments for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the tearing down of strongholds.

You know the answer to that! When the devil attacks, kick his butt. When the devil tempts you, get away from the temptation. What could be simpler?

'Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims,
abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; ... '
(1 Pe 2:11)

Hello @Jesus_is_LORD,

The enemy of our souls knows our weakness, knows which snare to use, what trap to lay. When we are at our weakest, he will introduce the temptation best suited to us and our vulnerability, and when we have taken the bait, reel us in. He will dress up the temptation to appeal to our sensitivities, laying us bare to the onslaught that will ensnare us, and leave us riven, storm tossed and weakened.

* Yet, I know, that God can and will intervene when we submit ourselves to Him, resist the devil, and he will flee from us.

*I experienced an onslaught that could have been my undoing, I had fallen to the point where all resistance was gone, I called out to God for help, while not wanting deliverance, for my mind and heart was so greatly ensnared, and He over-ruled my will, and rescued me from myself.

I was sinking deep in sin,
sinking to rise no more,
overwhelmed by guilt within,
mercy I did implore,
then the master of the sea,
heard my despairing cry,
Christ my Saviour lifted me,
Now safe am I.
Love lifted me
Love lifted me
When no-one but Christ could help.
Love lifted me.

* I had a lesson to learn, and the Lord let me learn it the hard way, but showed me through it that He will indeed save to the uttermost those who come to Him for salvation, through faith in His beloved Son; and that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Praise His Holy Name!

Thank you for this opportunity to share.

Thanks for the blessed, encouraging and Biblical response. Amen. Thank you.

' I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world,
but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.'
(Joh 17:15)

I do not underestimate the power of prayer, and the great blessing I had to have two friends who interceded for me: not that they ever told me so; but I know that they would have done. They tried talking to me, but I was beyond that.

If you see a brother or sister falling in the mire of sin, entrapped and sinking, get on your knees and pray. I will be eternally grateful for the intercession of my friends, as they were to God when they saw my deliverance, I'm sure. I only recently appreciated the part they played: and it was too late to thank them; but one day I hope to be able to do so, in resurrection glory.

God gives us the joy of participating in His deliverance.
We miss so much by not availing ourselves of it.
As do those who so desperately need it.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

'Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.
.. Put on the whole armour of God,
.... that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
...... For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
........ but against principalities, against powers,
.......... against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
............ against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God,
.. that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day,
.... and having done all, to stand.
...... Stand therefore,
........ having your loins girt about with truth,
.......... and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
............ And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith,
.. wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
.... And take the helmet of salvation,
...... and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
........ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
.......... and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
And for me, that utterance may be given unto me,
.. that I may open my mouth boldly,
.... to make known the mystery of the gospel,
...... For which I am an ambassador in bonds:
........ that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.'
(Eph 6:10-20)

* Stand therefore!

The only part of the body that has no armour is the back,
God will fight for us, we only have to stand and see the salvation of our God.

Praise God!

So we are to rely on the Lord Jesus Christ as our Good Shepherd for His guidance to know when our flesh is being tempted so we can call on Him to help us flee from youthful lust in order to resist the devil for him to flee from us.
