Take Heed and Watch
In Mark 13 Christ discusses a few signs to watch out for that would happen before His Second Coming. Those signs and the corresponding verses that they’re found in are as follows:
Mark 13:5 | Christ warns of those who will seek to deceive.
While deceit has always existed from the beginning of time we can see in our day how it has become increasingly common to the point that it is expected and accepted. We could also assume that Christ was warning about large scale deceit that would happen in the days before His Second Coming which we can also see happening in our day.
Mark 13:9 | Christ warns that believers would be persecuted under the laws of their land for their faith.
This sign has become increasingly common in our day recently. We see and hear about Christians in the middle-east being killed, beaten, and biasedly treated under the law for their belief. The most disturbing sign that has recently occurred is the persecution of Christians here in the U.S. We see stories everyday of many organizations purposely following a mission to attack those who believe in Christ and the existence of that faith in the public scene, with lawyers, judges, and politicians supporting those groups.
Mark 13:12 | Christ warns that siblings will turn on each other and children will turn on their parents.
The family has becoming increasingly fragile in our day. In the eyes of so many the family is no longer important and in many cases is frowned upon. We also have seen how politics in our time have almost turned into a cultish following that has caused family members to turn on each other in defense of these political beliefs.
Mark 13:24 | Christ relates that the sun will be darkened and the moon will no longer give light.
There are many possibilities both man-made and those originated from the universe that could cause such an occurrence. It’s anyone’s guess which of these could occur.
Mark 13:33-37 | Christ counsels that we should watch for these signs as well as take the time to pray because we will not know the specific year, day, or time that Christ will come.
Obviously we won’t know exactly when the Savior will come although many will try to speculate as we’ve seen from even some Christian sects. Christ counsels us that we should be mindful of these signs and keep in constant vigilant prayer that we will ALWAYS be prepared for His Coming if that time come in even the next hour. We read from other scriptures that when Christ does come it will be unexpected. We should be prepared both spiritually and temporally so that we are not caught off-guard.
