was Jesus wrong?

4For God said, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death. 5But ye say, whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is given to God ; 6he shall not honor his father. And ye have made void the word of God because of your tradition.

Did Jesus change His Mind?

I would say he did not change his mind .To honor a balance scale term is to give a little weight in ones decision making .It does not mean to venerate or worship .We give glory to our unseen God alone.

I believe that The Bible teaches that by “Honoring one’s Parents is “Giving GLORY to GOD”

“Honor Your Parents” is Giving Glory to GOD Alone!

The World meaning People [same as. Jesus has said] but ye say…..etc.

But A Day Of “Rekoning” will come and “THE FATHER” will Shake All Creation! We All will See The Difference Between, “The SON & The FATHER”
They Are Not The Same.:pensive:
But many wish that they are, But when The Scales Fall Off!!!:eyes: the Mountains and The Sun and Moon are Going To Try To Run Away, but They Cannot Hide.

But Many Have Stood Before “Jesus”!

But The FATHER, “Good Luck”:joy:

With All That Bragging how good and righteous you are. If it Ain’t 100% The Righteousness of “Jesus”, if you have 1oz of you own.:eyes:

I know manying have been Sprinkle, but as a kid of about 8 years old, They “Dunk” me in The Water they cover my Whole body they “Immersed “ me! In The Name of “The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost”!

I know many will not understand the example I am Attempting to Illustrate. Is far above a many heads. :pensive:

Giving glory to God is giving glory to God .

Honor is weight device. The honor weight gives balance, not power to venerate and glorify .

God who name is Jealous (he owns all things) will not share the glory of the one good teaching master as lord with the dying corrupted flesh of sinful mankind . His love that works in us is not jealous .it empowers us to be long sufferings so that then we are empowered we can be kind. . right to end of the those attributes it doe not rejoice with wrong doing.

No need to glory in the flesh. Honor parents not worship/venrate . Worshiping mothers creates a queen of heaven named Mary

Jesus is letting the Pharisees and teacher's of the law know that they were not upholding the Ten Commandments when it comes to honoring our parents, because they didn't let the people take care of their parents when they took money or things that should have went to help their parents.

Oh yes we learn that in Sunday school when we was little kids. But that was in the early 1950’s.
And our parents learn that in the late 1920’s that is why they could enforce it into us.

Oh how times has change.

Is it not strange “ How “The Dark ages” were called “The Enlighten years” I never understood that as a little kid.

And The older I got, I come to realize “People Are Messed up”

They Drank “Alcohol” and beer, and said it was good! They lied, because I tasted it, soda Pop and Kool Aid was good!
They Got Drunk, and claim that was good, they lied, they chewed Tobacco, put snuff in their nose, and in their bottom lip! they lied!
They lied a lot!
And They taught us to embrace things that corrupted us more. From The church house to the Whitehouse and all of The Houses in between.

“what seems to be Righteousness unto many men is an Abomination unto “GOD”

So are you saying why should we honor our parents if they were no good? LOL Let's talk about that then because there is a good point in that.. That is something else than what you said first though.
I remember when I wanted to be saved/a child of God's and I knew I had to admit I was a sinner and how I did not honor my mother and father sometimes. I knew I talked back a lot, but I had reasons to talk back and not honor them! It was hard for me to admit I sinned by talking back to them, I told God but they weren't very good parents to me...but then I knew I STILL SHOULD NOT have talked back to them, even though they were not the best. You know what I mean? We have to obey God and not make excuses for sinning. For instance, I would talk back because they did me wrong, and they smoked cigarettes and this and that and etc, but I should not have talked back no matter what. When I finally admitted that I sinned by talking back then I could ask for forgiveness.
We have to admit where we sinned and not make excuses for our sins. If they wanted to be saved they would have to admit their sins to God too. We all have to admit our sins and repent of them.

After growing up with two narcissist parents (yes, two) I can assuredly say to you, you do not honor them. The things they did to themselves and others is horrifying, no love in our household. Flee from them and never look back. Honor them??? Hell no!

I don't think the commandment is to honor them if they honor us. If we honor God by honoring them . Its the first commandment with a propmised he would increase our faith . Bless those who can or have cursed .

Along with the long suffering be kind,. . .just called to say I love U

Exactly. We have to obey God and He says honor your parents. He didn't say only if they are good parents.

So sad, so sad. So very sad. Judgement can be a terrible thing. Sad.

Deuteronomy 21:18
If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and does not listen to them when disciplined,

Ruth 3:5
"I will do everything you say," Ruth answered.

Proverbs 6:20
My son, keep your father's commandment, and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

Proverbs 23:22
Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

Jeremiah 35:8
And we have obeyed the voice of our forefather Jonadab son of Rechab in all he commanded us. So we have not drunk wine all our lives--neither we nor our wives nor our sons and daughters.

Jeremiah 35:18
Then Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites: "This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Because you have obeyed the command of your forefather Jonadab and have kept all his commandments and have done all that he charged you to do,

Colossians 3:20
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing to the Lord.

Hello @PloughBoy,

The Lord Jesus Christ asked his parents, '... wist ye not that I must be about My Father's business?' (Luke 2:49)

'And they understood not the saying which He spake unto them.
And He went down with them, and came to Nazareth,
and was subject unto them: ... '
(Luke 2:50-51a)

Later, when He had begun His ministry, The Lord's Mother, brothers and friends sought to remove Him, thinking He was, 'beside Himself' (Mark 3:21, Matthew 12:46). The Lord Jesus resisted all attempts made to prevent Him from fulfilling His Father's will. Saying:-

'... ... Who is My Mother? and who are My Bethren?
And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples,
and said, "Behold My Mother and My Brethren!
For whosoever shall do the will of My Father which is in heaven,
the same is My Brother, and Sister, and Mother.'

(Mat 12:48b-50)

' Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love;
in honour preferring one another;'
(Rom 12:10)

Thank you
In Jesus Name.
Chris

Hello @PloughBoy,

You ask a question in your subject heading. @Is honouring our Father, Mother and our Elders (only) a condition of earning respect?

It was one of the requirements of the law given through Moses to the children of Israel, by which they were to live. It set them apart from the nations around them, and encouraged order and mutual love and respect among the People of The Nation whose God is the Lord. Providing a beacon of light and bringing honour to the One who had made them a nation.

* The keeping of them brought reward from above, disobedience brought judgment.

We are not under the law, but in Christ: but how much more should our lives be so lived as to bring that same honour and glory to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the One who gave Himself for us, our Lord Jesus Christ, that we may have life through His Name.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

I would think it is giving respect to God who lovingly commands us .We are under that law in Christ

Let us also remember, our understanding “The Laws of GOD”, The Moral Law of GOD” has never been drop or annul by “The New Covenant”.

For many people think or do not understand “The Holiness of GOD” and many do not care, to spend enough time to learn of The Character of “The ALMIGHTY GOD”, and That is understandable to say “per se” “Holy Scripture”.:pensive:

I kinda, smile and remembered many years ago in a Restaurant I burst out and laugh while I was reading my Bible there. And one of The Waitress, said, “What are you readind! I showed her my Book and said the Bible! She replied, and you are Laughing like that!!
Yep! I replied.

I know manying are not going to believe me and personally I don’t care, for it is not that important. It is not.

And Now I will speak in a “Hebrew tense”.

“I want to show you something, and when I read it, I would “Burst out Laughing”

Done, and please, don’t ask, what do I mean. “But GOD” :pensive:

So, in that quick note, in “Luke 2:49” (ASV).

It is a lot going on in both corners. A Whole Lot! That only can be “Flash”in a moment of time. For in The natural mind of man, it has to be explain only within “Volume” of The content of “Genesis to Revelation”,

Now “To him that have understanding Let Him Understand”:pensive:

“the Arrow is Beyond you”. “For he that have ears to hear, let him hear”:pensive:

Enjoy, Slay Peter and eat.

Yes the humor of Christ .There are books writen on it . laughter does good like a medicine a little wine (anything that intoxicates or invigorates ) can lighten the sufferings of the soul or stomach .The gospel the cure .

LIke for instance. . Acts 2: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

Seasoned with

James 2:4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

In other words its to early to call Peter a drunk . God simply did not give them His understanding of His faithfulness.
