That's good to know, Oboy. About the Red Army. I think most of us still believe what the media, Time mag. and other pics portrayed back when. But, you have first-hand experience. I've always been afraid of the US being attacked by the Red Chinese. But that has changed too. Now it's the Muslims (which I suppose includes some Chinese.) Would your wife know how much the Islam faith has influenced the Chinese?
China may still attack the USA one day, or they may just stand by and watch America shrivel up and die.
China's military is increasing. I hate to think what for.
The Islamic faith doesn't have much influence over the Chinese. They tend to stay separated even when living together (i.e., the Uyghurs and the Han Chinese riots in Urumqi a couple of weeks ago). The exception to the separation is the food. In places like Kaifeng, the Muslims have lots of restaurants and food stands, and the Han Chinese love it, even though they don't serve pork.
In fact, you can find these Muslim street vendors all over China. They also sell a nut/fruit cake kind of thing off the front of a backwards tricycle that's really good. And lamb kabobs. And a sweet pocket bread.
mmm mmm mmm
Good stuff.
And are Christians really persecuted there as bad as what we are told? Sometimes our media puts out a lot of propaganda like we accuse other countries of doing. But this is all off the subject.
In some places, there is relative freedom for Christians. In other places, there is harsh persecution. In general, for those Christians not affiliated with the government churches are subject to persecution. I've never heard of anyone connected with the Three Self church being persecuted (but it's possible if they were helping the house churches).
Check out Persecution dot com. Their homepage says that persecution has increased in the past few weeks in China.
