The Bible

I don't think that this is being made very clear. Yes absolutely read your bible. It is a wonderful tool that we have been given by God to help us to grow. However the bible is a tool and we can come to know Him without the bible. It is the Holy Spirit that leads and guides us into all truth not a book. Now before anyone gets upset I am not saying that the bible is just some book. I too love the written word of God. However without the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth that is written in the bible it is just another book. It is not absolutely necessary to have a bible to grow, but it is a privilege to have one at your disposal. His "Word" is alive and active and we cannot forget that. Let me put it this way. As I have told the Mormons, who base their church(religion) on a book (The book of Mormon), if you remove the bible from our "religion" the Church still remains. Christianity does not stand or fall based on a book. It stands on the TRUTH. Gods Word cannot and will not fail. I hope this helps. God bless.

Well said, I agree and have made simular posts before in other threads but some just cant see it that clearly.

Abraham had no scripture to base his faith on but rather he based his faith in God on his experiences with God and God's Word, Jesus the Living Word.

See I guess this is where we disagree because I believe that down through history some of the translations of the scriptures are corrupted.

With what you wrote above, which translations do you consider corrupted?

Most English translations, (I haven't read them all) including some very common bibles used today= KJV, NKJV, CEV, NLT, NIV, NASB, ESV, RSV to name a few. Don't misinderstand me I read many of these version but do so knowing they have errors in various parts.

Translations that I use for study more than others are the Septuagint, Young's Literal translation and the Concordant translation. But I use the NLT most when sharing scriptures unless it is one of those areas that are mistranslated.

We may disagree on this but I love you in Jesus Name my friend.:shade:

I never heard Septuagint, young literal translation, is this a Hebrew writings? Is it a older or newer version?

The Septuagint is the Greek translation of the Hebrew OT and was translated in the 3rd century BC. I believe it is the oldest translation but is still available in print and online today, it is also known as the LXX translation.

Young's literal translation is a translation of the OT and NT scriptures and was translated in 1898 by Robert Young and is still available in print and online today.

The Concordant version was translated by Adolph E. Knock in 1909 and is in print and oline today.

Thanks jigglyfly, my first Bible was the King James Version. Oh I know God is so real and that He made a way for me through Christ Jesus.

Oh how sweet the name of Jesus is and how He touch my life and continue to do so.

Oh how I love Jesus!

Sorry if this quote comes out wrong. I'm still trying to work out these quote tools.

Trishann jiggyfly is right about the Septuagint LXX. It did come about because around 250 bc there was a Jewish favourable regime in Egypt, so much so there were alot of Greek speaking Jews in Egypt. The Great Temple authorized the translation of the Tenach (the only canonized verse of the Jewish Bible). The Tenach was canonized around 450bc and penned by Ezra and Nehemiah. It consisted of The Torah (the Laws of God, the first 5 books of the OT), the Major Prophets up to Daniel, and some of the minor prophets. There was a complete Jewish Bible penned roughly the same time but the Great Temple felt it was too watered down and never canonized it. That is what went into the OT. The name Septuagint came from its translation requirement 70 scholors.
~History Class is over~ ... lol

There were 2 verified accurate versions of the Bible The Red Letter King James with the Greek and Hebrew Guides, Strong's Concordence and study guides. For obvious reasons. The other one was The Messianic Text (MT). In the first century there was a very large number Jewish Christians, known as again obviously Messianic Jews, The walked away from Judaism to follow Jesus. They wrote the MT using again the Tenach as its base.

As for the proof, I guess everyone knows of the anthropological find know as the Dead Sea Scrolls, there are I think 5 sites all consisting of remnants of Hebrew Text. Among the find was the complete scroll that made up the Book of Isaiah, intact. They also found enough large fragments or reconstructed fragments to confirm both, although differing in errors the error rate is low enough to affirm their accuracy.

Again, sorry for the length. I have no idea how to reduce this and maintain the accuracy. ** Anyone who read my thread, The Bible 1 Testament or 2 will find some "minor" inconsistancies with this post. I have to update my thread, this is an ongoing research project of mine.

continuation of my last post

The New Testament. The Gospel (only 1) the disciples wrote everything Jesus said & did and what they saw during His Ministry. Many would want you to believe that they were written 35-50 years after Jesus was resurrected. Hmm, I don't know about you, but because Jesus is God, John 1:1-4, I find it hard to believe that God would have no concept of giving us an accurate interactive record of Him teaching us on how to live our lives day to day.

Even the writings chosen cannot be an accident either, Matthew, tax collector, record keeper and the most orderly Gospel. Luke, Gentile and Physician, fluent in Greek, Latin and Aramaic. Mark, fascinated by the mystical goings on around Jesus and John, the first to recognize and join Jesus, learned from Jesus in nurturing father/son relationship. In addition HOW THE HECK can anyone recall exact specific quotes situation to situation 35-50 years later.. come on people (right) lol. Especially with all the quotes from Jesus over a 3 year ministry.

Then with the Letters of the Apostles and the Acts of the Apostles. the written record of the continuation of the Ministry of Christ, a ministry based on witnessing to what it means to have Jesus in your life.
