<style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } A:link { so-language: zxx } --> </style> Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Mar 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

When Jesus answered the question about what was the greatest or the first commandment He answered by summarizing the Ten Commandments with just two. The first commandment Jesus gave us is the summation of the first four and the second is the sum of the remaining six.

The most foolish argument I have encountered in the years of my ministry is that the Christian, not being under the Law, should ignore it. First, there is what is recorded of what Jesus said of the Law in Matthew 5:17-19, during the Sermon on the Mount. He told us that the least speck of the Law and the word of the prophets will not pass until everything in them is completed.

Couple this very popular heresy of ignoring the Law of God with the heresy taught about forgiveness and you have the formula for admission to Hell. Still in the Sermon in chapter 7:21-27, we find the truth of what I have said here. In John 14:15 we find Jesus giving us our orders to obey His commands and in John 1:1-3 we see that Jesus is not only the God of the Old Testament but that there is nothing created that has not been created by Him. This man, Jesus, is the Omnipotent God of all creation.

Now, about those Ten Commandments, there are at least two, very, important things to consider here. First, these commandments are the most accurate and beautiful word picture of our Most Holy God. When we study the passages of Exodus 20 we learn just how holy God is. And as Christians, it is our duty to daily conform our, very, lives to the image of Jesus. (Romans 12:1-2) And second, the Christians need to keep these laws in the fore of their minds because these are our code of conduct, the conduct God wants to see from His Children.

Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
Gal 3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

To follow the Law is the opposite of Christianity whether one (in their opinion) consider this foolishness or not. As believers we are not led of regulation but of the Holy Spirit and to place oneself under what the bible clearly says we are not to be under(Rom 6:14 ,Gal 5:18, Rom 8:3-4, Gal 4:21-31) is simply asking for trouble. It is up to Him to guide our steps and self reliance on obeying rules is simply an anti-Christ manifestation of the flesh. That being said the Holy One does not lead us into transgression and our new nature (as we abide in the Vine ) is to do joyfully follow Him as He leads us into all truth. Let us absolutely depend upon Him and our lives will reflect both His will and His heart.

Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Boarg I too used to quote those same verses to whomever brought up anything about the Law. After digging in God's word a little deeper I have come to find out that their were two different laws giving to God's people in the Old Testament. One writting with the finger of God, not once but twice, Exo.24:12/31:18. Think about it God did not even want anyone to write the Law. Can't forget either that He spoke this to the people personally Exo.20. Now when conditions of the special covenent contract between God and Israel were anounced to the nations MOSES stood in as a mediator between them. Exo.20:22- 24:3. After MOSES wrote Book of the law (Duet.31:24/ 2Chron.35:12) he put it beside the Ark. This book of the law stood as a witness AGAINST them (Deut.29:20,21). Called MOSES law in Luke 2:22/ 1Cor.9:9. Theres more as well. God's Law( the TEN COMMANDMENTS) was put inside the ARK(Deut.31:26). Two different laws. Gods Law is Spiritual Rom.7:14. Moses law carnal Heb.7:16. Gods Law is eternal Matt. 5:17-19/Psalm 111:7,8. Moses law temporary Col.2:14/Heb.8:13. Christ is our new covenent with God! Law of God written in our hearts and minds(Heb.10:16). I can go on for like another 10 min. writting the difference between both laws but i believe you got the idea. Its very dangerous to take any pre-conceived ideas when prayind and asking God for Spiritual Truth. Use this do your own study and forget what you were taught when you go before the Lord. Go humbly. That is what helps me. God Bless you. Remember the Ten Commandments will never be abolished

Wow! You have a very good grip on the truth.

7 The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.8 Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?9 If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!10 In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way.11 So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!
2 Cor 3:7-11 (NLT)

19 Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised. God gave his law through angels to Moses, who was the mediator between God and the people.20 Now a mediator is helpful if more than one party must reach an agreement. But God, who is one, did not use a mediator when he gave his promise to Abraham.
Gal 3:19-20 (NLT)

Well, I disagree with just about all of this. But it's just my opinion.
Without the law, how would we know what sin is?
If we can't sin, why do we need Jesus?
The law was given to show us how far from God's standards that we are.
Are we still under the law? I believe we are still held accountable to the standards of the law.
So there are the standards of the law, and then there is the penalty for breaking the law.
I don't believe Christians are under the penalty of the law. When it talks about the old law being replaced,
what it's really talking about is the penalty of the old law. This is only for believers. Non-believers will still be held accountable to ALL of the law.
..and... the penalty for the law.

Some people think that liberty in Christ leads to an annulment of the Law. It's not that the Law is broken; on the contrary, it is fulfilled.
Picture this: When you are flying in an airplane, from the moment you take off until the moment it lands again, gravity is continually pulling on it: the law of gravity is in effect the entire time. What permits a plane (a heavier-than-air object which Lord Kelvin of the Royal Society said would be impossible to fly) to take flight is not truly defying gravity, but the observance and guidance of a higher law: the law of lift. With sufficient thrust, the law of lift supersedes the law of gravity, allowing for flight. Should Lift ever be removed, then the plane immediately succumbs to Gravity. The law of Moses was perfect, but due to the sinfulness of flesh, it was powerless to save. A higher law was implemented: the law of grace, the law of liberty. But it is still in harmony with the original law. The law of lift could not exist without gravity, after all.

Anyone care to try and explain what Paul said in 2Cor. chapter 3 and Gal. chapters 3and 4, or simply continue to ignore the scriptures that several have posted?

God wants to change us from within which is something that following the law cannot accomplish, we must be led by the HolySpirit. The law always leads to death but the Spirit gives life.

Seems a lot like works of self righteousness to me th1bill. If the law could accomplish what you claim there would be no need for a new covenant. Maybe you should spend a little time reading the new testament and ask HolySpirit to give you some understanding of God's plan.

So, if I ignore all the scriptures I posted ( the Word of God) and believe your theology that would give a right interpretation ? But if you are led by te Spirit you are not under the law- I will have to go with the Bible on that one my friend, unless of course you can actually find a verse that tells a born again believer that He is under 1/2 of the Law.
To try to fulfill even one part of the Law makes you guilty under the whole Law that is straight from the Word. God says (in His Word) that we are no longer under the Law that is straight from the Word. While theologians try to divide that (as men are wont to do), I find it best to follow the Word especially when you do not seem to have a scriptural leg to stand on. The legalistic folks would have you believe that by going back under (even part) of the Law you will please God when in reality they have cursed themselves.

Perhaps I can put that another (more palatable way) every Law Moses gave Israel was given to him by God. What was written by the Lord's finger in stone is no more His Word than the Words He gave Moses or even Paul. It is either His Word or it is not.

The significance of the Law written by the finger of God is the broken covenant of the law, the second time hewn by the hand of the mediator of the covenant. All things of the law "follows the pattern on the mount" and is but "after the tenor" of the everlasting covenant of God. This is why Deuteronomy, called the second telling of the law, is written much more lovingly then before, but the essence and intent of what is said remains true. The very exodus, migration, and conquest of the land of Canaan of the jews reveals the spiritual design of salvation and baptism; right down to Moses saying he was punished for the people's sin and would die on this side of the mount, and the people then led by Joshua (same root name as Jesus) to obtain their inheritance promised by God.

"For the law was never meant to bring about righteousness, for it is the judgment against sin, but rather to manifest our own judgments as opposed to God. The law itself is miraculous, in that by the commandments of the law no flesh could be made righteous to establish a relationship with God (For the law says an eye for an eye, but what does God owe that He should repay, or what can be done for Him to repay the things that He has done, therefore all things are by grace.), but the relationship impossible to maintain or establish by man, was established in that the law and commandments were ever given, by the Word of God (For "with men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible"). Also the commandments of the law were not meant to bring about spiritual sanctification, but rather instruction unto obedience and thanksgiving, for their deliverance wrought by the hand of God (For God Himself redeemed Israel and sanctified them unto Himself in the Red Sea.).

For the glory of Egypt was sacrificed to deliver God’s people from the house of bondage, serving as a symbol of the cross of Jesus Christ (For it is written, "I gave Egypt for your ransom…since you were precious in my sight…I gave men for you, and people for your life."). Again in the next generation, being led by Joshua to the land of their inheritance, after the former generation died off in their sins for their rebellion against God; this serves as another manifestation of the cross, for Jesus Christ suffered as a sinner in order to warn against the judgment of sin and show the sanctity of God’s Word.

Together we see a marvelous depiction of the baptism of the Old Testament, wrought by God Himself and not by man's works of the law: Israel redeemed by the hand of God through Moses, descends through the Red Sea sanctifying them apart from Egypt ("the house of bondage") and unto Himself; this generation of Israel dying in their sins along with Moses on this side of the Jordan; ascends out of the Jordan as a new creature/generation led by Joshua to seize their inheritance given by the grace of God."

All things before the birth of the Messiah prophecy of Christ, and everything after His coming testifies of Him; for He is all! Here is the very essence and Spirit of the Word of God made manifest in the flesh; He and His doctrine is the Law of God which is to be honored in respect to the one who gave it! Nothing is to be honored in the place of God, except the very integrity of His heart expressed in Christ (for of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks). For God would not be honored for His strength, wisdom, works, or position; for by none of these things can you be acceptable to God: but for the righteousness of His will and the faithfulness of His Word and the holiness of His Spirit by which all things are sanctified in Him!

well Peter puts it the best in 2Pet. 3:15-17 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. 17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked. The way it sounds like is that there in some contradiction in the Bible, which we all know that can't happen. See Paul was blessed with alot of wisdom and as Peter says that it is kinda hard nto understand. You can't find any other writer in the Bible that says that the Commandments are abolished. Jesus, Paul, Peter, John, James, and I believe Jude say that they are not. By the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses the Word is established. Please dig a little deeper, check out exactly which law it wass that Paul was talking about or as what Peter said in the verse up above " will lead to your own destruction" not maybe but WILL. Lets not to hold on to traditions or pride please. We are to close to Christs return to hold on to pre-conceived ideas. The works of His hands are verity and justice;
All His precepts are sure.
8 They stand fast forever and ever,
And are done in truth and uprightness says David. God bless

We are the people of a new and better covenant. One must ask the Holy Spirit to open their eyes to see what it truly means to be a born again son of God, what it means when Christ said "it is finished" (the fulfillment of the Law, it' penalties and etc).
