'These are they that testify of Me'

THE PSALMS

The Psalms are full of Christ, aren't they? :-

His humiliation, suffering and death (Psalm 22),
His resurrection (Psalm 16),
His anointing as Prophet with grace-filled lips (Psalm 45; Luke 4:22);
As Priest after the order of Melchisedec (Psalm 110; Hebrews 5:6; Hebrews 6:20; Hebrews 7:17:21);
As King enthroned over all (Psalm 2), and:-
His kingdom established in the earth (Psalm 103; Psalm 145).

PROVERBS

Hello there, :)

In Proverbs the Lord Jesus Christ is revealed as the 'Wisdom of God'. In chapter 8, wisdom is personified. He is also revealed as the 'Path' and the 'Light' of His People, in chapter 4:18:-

'But the path of the just is as the shining light,
that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.'
(Pro 4:18)

* He is revealed as the 'Surety' who smarted for His people while strangers, in chapter 11:15:-

'He that is surety (ie., Pledge, a Bondsman)
for a stranger
shall smart for it:
and he that hateth suretiship is sure.'
(Pro 11:15)

* This reminds me of the words of Judah in Genesis 44:32-33, who became 'surety' for Benjamin, 'a bondman':-

'For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying,
If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father for ever.
Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad
a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren.'
(Gen 44:32-33)

* Our Lord became 'surety' for us, 'our Bondman':-

'But God commendeth His love toward us,
in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by His blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
For if, when we were enemies,
we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son,
much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
by Whom we have now received the atonement.'
(Rom 5:8-11)

* We too were 'strangers' :-

'That at that time ye were without Christ,
being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel,
and strangers from the covenants of promise,
having no hope,
and without God in the world:'
(Eph 2:12)

* We can also see the Lord as our 'strong tower', into which those who are clothed in His righteousness can run and be safe (Proverbs 18:10),
Also in the friend who loveth at all times, and the brother born for adversity of Proverbs 17:17:-

'A friend loveth at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity.'

'Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down His life for His friends.'
(Joh 15:13)

Praise God!

Back on my own it seems, but I will carry on. :)

ECCLESIASTES, THE SONG OF SONGS, ISAIAH.

'Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher,
counting one by one, to find out the account:
Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not:
one man among a thousand have I found;
but a woman among all those have I not found.
Lo, this only have I found,
that God hath made man upright;
but they have sought out many inventions.'
(Ecc 7:27-29)

Hi there,

In 'Ecclesiastes' the reader is told of the One who is, 'one among a thousand,' in the midst of all that is vanity and vexation of spirit.

* In 'The Song of Songs', Lord Jesus Christ is revealed as the true and faithful Shepherd, Lover, and Bridegroom of the Bride: who remained constant to Him in spite of all the royal grandeur and wooing of Solomon.

* In 'Isaiah' we read of the sufferings and the glory of Christ. The One who was 'despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief' (Isaiah 53:5) . Who was wounded for our transgressions, oppressed and afflicted, and brought as a lamb to the slaughter; cut off out of the land of the living (Isaiah 53:2-9). Yet the glory shall follow: for 'He shall see of the travail of His soul and be satisfied' (Isaiah 53:11) .

- He will be His People's light - Isaiah 60:1-2 & Matthew 4:16.
- The Mighty God - Isaiah 9:6 & Matthew 28:18.
- The well of salvation - Isaiah 12:3.
- The King Who shall reign in righteousness - Isaiah 32:1-2.
- Jehovah's Branch, beautiful and glorious - Isaiah 4:2.

JEREMIAH,

Hi there, :)

Moving on to Jeremiah: Through whom God spoke concerning 'the Righteous Branch' and 'Jehovah our Righteousness':-

'"Behold, the days come", saith the LORD,
"that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch,
and a King shall reign and prosper,
and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
In His days Judah shall be saved,
and Israel shall dwell safely:
and this is His name whereby He shall be called,
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. ... "'
(Jeremiah 23:5-6)

* Of, 'the Righteous Branch', and the King Who shall reign with judgment and righteousness.:-

'In those days, and at that time,
will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David;
and He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.'
(Jeremiah 33:15)

Praise God! For He will do it.

Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
our Lord and Head.

EZEKIEL

* Through Ezekiel God reveals the Messiah as 'the true Shepherd ':-

'And I will set up one shepherd over them,
and He shall feed them,
even My servant David;
He shall feed them,
and He shall be their shepherd.'
(Ezekiel 34:23)

* As 'the Prince':-

'And they shall dwell in the land
that I have given unto Jacob my servant,
wherein your fathers have dwelt;
and they shall dwell therein,
even they, and their children,
and their children's children for ever:
and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.'
(Ezekiel 37:25)

* 'Jehovah Shammah':-

'It was round about eighteen thousand measures:
and the name of the city from that day shall be,
The LORD is there.'
(Ezekiel 48:35)

* How wonderfully comforting those words are, aren't they? 'Jehovah Shammah' - 'The LORD is there'.

Praise God!

DANIEL

* Through Daniel we see Him as the 'Stone' Who becomes 'the Head of the corner'. Also as 'The Son of Man', and 'Messiah the Prince':-

'Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands,
which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay,
and brake them to pieces.'
(Dan 2:34)

'The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.
This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.'
(Psalm 118:22-23)

'And He shall be for a sanctuary;
but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel,
for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.'
(Isaiah 8:14)

'Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD,
Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone,
a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation:
he that believeth shall not make haste.'
(Isaiah 28:16)

' Jesus saith unto them,
Did ye never read in the scriptures,
The stone which the builders rejected,
the same is become the head of the corner:
this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? ...
... And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken:
but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.'
(Mat 21:42 & 44)

'Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel,
that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified,
whom God raised from the dead,
even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole.
This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders,
Which is become the head of the corner.
Neither is there salvation in any other:
for there is none other name under heaven given among men,
whereby we must be saved.'
(Acts 4:10-12)

'To Whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men,
but chosen of God, and precious, ... ...
... Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture,
Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious:
and he that believeth on Him shall not be confounded.;
(1 Peter 2:4 & 6)

' I saw in the night visions, and, behold,
one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven,
and came to the Ancient of days,
and they brought Him near before Him. ... ... ...
... I came near unto one of them that stood by,
and asked him the truth of all this.
So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.'
(Daniel 7:13 & 16)
'Know therefore and understand,
that from the going forth of the commandment
to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince
shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks:
the street shall be built again, and the wall,
even in troublous times.'
(Daniel 9:25)
Praise God!

Hello there, :)

HOSEA JOEL & AMOS

In HOSEA we see the Lord Jesus Christ as the true David in Hosea 3:5:-

'Afterward shall the children of Israel return,
and seek the LORD their God,
and David their king;
and shall fear the LORD
and His goodness in the latter days.'

(Hosea 3:5)

Praise God! For it will surely come to pass.

-------------------------------

* In JOEL we see the Lord Jesus Christ, as' Joel's God dwelling in Zion', in Joel 3:17:-

'So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God
dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain:

then shall Jerusalem be holy,
and there shall no strangers pass through her any more'
(Joe 3:17)

--------------------------------

* God reveals the Lord Jesus Christ through His servant AMOS as, 'the Raiser of David's Tabernacle' in Amos 9:11, see also Acts 15:16-17:-

'In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen,
and close up the breaches thereof;
and I will raise up his ruins,
and I will build it as in the days of old:'
(Amo 9:11)

'After this I will return,
and will build again the tabernacle of David,

which is fallen down;
and I will build again the ruins thereof,
and I will set it up:
That the residue of men might seek after the Lord,
and all the Gentiles, upon whom My name is called,
saith the Lord, Who doeth all these things.'
(Act 15:16-17)

Praise His Holy Name !

Hello again, :)

OBADIAH, JONAH & MICAH:-

* OBADIAH, is given words concerning the Lord's day and 'the Deliverer' on Mount Zion:-

'But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance,
and there shall be holiness;
and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.'
(Obadiah 1:17)

* JONAH, knew that He was in God's hands, and that his 'salvation' depended on Him. (Jonah 2:9) From the belly of the great fish he said, 'Salvation is of the Lord,' and the duration of his confinement within the fish's belly and his deliverance was used as the 'sign' of Christ's resurrection (Matthew 12:39-41):-

'But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving;
I will pay that that I have vowed.
Salvation is of the LORD.'
(Jon 2:9)

'But He answered and said unto them,
An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign;
and there shall no sign be given to it,
but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly;
so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.'
(Mat 12:39-40)

* MICAH speaks of his 'King' and his 'Lord' in Micah 2:13 and 5:2 & 5:-

' The breaker (the Assyrian) is come up before them:
they have broken up,
and have passed through the gate,
and are gone out by it:
and their king shall pass before them,
and the LORD on the head of them.'
(Mic 2:13)

'But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah,
though thou be little among the thousands of Judah,
yet out of thee shall He come forth unto me
that is to be ruler in Israel;
whose goings forth have been from of old,
from everlasting.'

(Mic 5:2)

'And This Man shall be the peace,
when the Assyrian shall come into our land: ... ... '

Hello again :)

NAHUM, HABAKKUK & ZEPHANIAH

* Nahum refers to the Lord as a, 'Stronghold in Trouble' in Nahum 1:7:-

'The LORD is good,
a strong hold in the day of trouble;
and He knoweth them that trust in Him.'
(Nah 1:7)

* Habakkuk of the Lord as his 'Joy' and 'Confidence' (Habakkuk 3:17-18):-

'Although the fig tree shall not blossom,
neither shall fruit be in the vines;
the labour of the olive shall fail,
and the fields shall yield no meat;
the flock shall be cut off from the fold,
and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.

(Hab 3:17-18)

* Zephaniah refers to the Lord as a 'Mighty God in the midst of Zion' in Zephaniah 3:17:-

'The LORD hath taken away thy judgments,
He hath cast out thine enemy:
the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee:
thou shalt not see evil any more.
In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not:
and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty;
He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy;
He will rest in His love, He will joy over thee with singing.'

(Zep 3:15-17)

Praise God!

Hello once more, :)

HAGGAI & ZECHARIAH

* Haggai refers to the Lord as the, 'Desire of all nations' in chapter 2:7;-

'For thus saith the LORD of hosts;
Yet once, it is a little while,
and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come:
and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.'
(Haggai 2:6-7)

* God's message through Zechariah is concerning His, 'Smitten Shepherd'', 'The Man, Jehovah's fellow', in Zechariah 13:7; of Jehovah's, 'Servant - the Branch', in Zechariah 3:8; and, 'The Man Whose name is the Branch,' in Zechariah 6:12:-

'Awake, O sword, against my shepherd,
and against the man that is my fellow,
saith the LORD of hosts:
smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered:
and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.'
(Zechariah 13:7)

'Hear now, O Joshua the high priest,
thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee:
for they are men wondered at:
for, behold, I will bring forth My servant the BRANCH.'
(Zechariah 3:8)

'And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts,
saying, Behold the Man whose name is The BRANCH;
and He shall grow up out of His place,
and He shall build the temple of the LORD:
Even He shall build the temple of the LORD;
and He shall bear the glory,
and shall sit and rule upon His throne;
and He shall be a priest upon His throne:
and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.'
(Zechariah 6:12-13)

Praise God!

Finally, we come to the last of the Old Testament Prophets,

MALACHI

* Malachi speaks of the 'Messenger of the Covenant' in Malachi 3:1; and 'The Refiner of the Sons of Levi' in Malachi 3:3; also of 'The Sun of Righteousness' in Malachi 4:2:-

'Behold, I will send My messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me:
and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to His temple,
even The Messenger of The Covenant, whom ye delight in:
behold, He shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
But who may abide the day of His coming?
and who shall stand when He appeareth?
for He is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver:
and He shall purify the sons of Levi,

and purge them as gold and silver,
that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.'
(Malachi 3:1-3)

'For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven;
and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble:
and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts,
that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
But unto you that fear My name
shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings;

and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
And ye shall tread down the wicked;
for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet
in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.'
(Malachi 4:1-3)

* This is the end. Praise God, that the whole of the Scriptures have the Lord Jesus Christ as it's subject, as He has said:-

'Then He said unto them,
O fools, and slow of heart to believe
all that the prophets have spoken:
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things,
and to enter into His glory?
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets,
He expounded unto them in all the scriptures
the things concerning Himself.'
(Luke 24:25-27)

* He would have shown them all that we have looked at in this thread. (Thank you to all who have followed through with me)

Praise His Holy Name!
