Proverbs 5:1-4 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“1My son, pay attention to my wisdom;
incline your ear to my insight,
2that you may maintain discretion
and your lips may preserve knowledge.
3Though the lips of the forbidden woman drip honey
and her speech is smoother than oil,
4in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
sharp as a double-edged sword.”

Sadly, the committing of adultery among those professing faith in Jesus Christ has reached enormous proportions. And, according to Jesus, just to look at a woman (or a man) to lust after her (or him) is committing adultery with her or him in one’s own heart. So it doesn’t have to be physical and/or in person for it to be adultery. Much of the adultery going on these days is happening in people’s minds only, and often via a porn video accompanied by self-gratification. So the “forbidden woman” may not even be real.

Sadly, this is even being sanctioned by some “churches.” Or it is at least being ignored and not dealt with by those who are in positions of authority within the gatherings of the church. For so many “churches” have now cheapened God’s grace to overlook people’s sinful habits. So many are teaching that all God requires is lip service to him, and that repentance (putting sin to death) and obedience to God are not required of God for salvation and for eternal life with God. But that is a lie from hell!

Proverbs 5:11-14 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“11At the end of your life you will groan
when your flesh and your body are spent,
12and you will say, ‘How I hated discipline,
and my heart despised reproof!
13I did not listen to the voice of my teachers
or incline my ear to my mentors.
14I am on the brink of utter ruin
in the midst of the whole assembly.’”

Sadly, not everyone who sins against the Lord deliberately and habitually, in the committing of adultery, or in any other sin, will ever come to the place of acknowledging their sin, but not just the sin of adultery, but the sin of despising the discipline of the Lord, and of hating to be reproved, and of not listening to the words of wisdom from God and from his messengers. In their pride and in their stubbornness they will continue in their sins, many of them to the death. And then it will be too late to repent of their sin of adultery.

Proverbs 5:15-19 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“15Drink water from your own cistern,
and running water from your own well.
16Why should your springs flow in the streets,
your streams of water in the public squares?
17Let them be yours alone,
never to be shared with strangers.
18May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth:
19A loving doe, a graceful fawn—
may her breasts satisfy you always;
may you be captivated by her love forever.”

And this can’t be just about sex, either. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” “In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.” “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.”

[Genesis 2:24; Matthew 5:28; Matthew 15:19-20; Matthew 19:4-9; Mark 7:20-23; Mark 10:6-9; Romans 13:9; 1 Corinthians 5:1-13; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20; Galatians 5:13-24; Ephesians 5:1-33; Colossians 3:18-19; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8; Titus 2:3-5; Hebrews 13:4; James 4:4; 1 Peter 3:1-7; 2 Peter 2:13-19]

For there is so much more to a marriage than just sex. There is mutual love and respect for one another. There is the caring about the needs of each other. There is give and take on both sides, never to compromise with sin or with the world or with what is against the Word of God, but to not be selfish but to be caring and giving up of what we want out of love and respect. And there is sharing meals together, singing together, and having enjoyable conversations, laughing together, and the sharing of thoughts and ideas, etc.

Proverbs 5:20-23 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)

“20Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress,
or embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21For a man’s ways are before the eyes of the LORD,
and the LORD examines all his paths.
22The iniquities of a wicked man entrap him;
the cords of his sin entangle him.
23He dies for lack of discipline,
led astray by his own great folly.”

And this is a very sad reality! So many people professing faith in Jesus Christ are buying into the lies which tell them that God will not judge them for their sins, or that God can’t even see when they sin and so He just smiles on them, even if they are in the midst of committing adultery. Or they are being told that if they are in the midst of committing adultery (looking at porn) and they start to feel guilty, that they should just “claim who you are in Christ” (I have heard it all said). But we are not in Christ by lip service only.

And God does see everything we do. And He will judge us all according to our deeds. One day we will have to stand before Him and give an account for what we did with Him and with His gospel message. And many are going to hear God say, “I never knew you! Depart from me you workers of iniquity.” Because they refused God’s commands and His way of salvation, and they charted their own course instead, and they went their own way, and did their own thing, but it landed them in hell, and not in heaven. Don’t go there!!

Truth is marching, truth is marching.

I love you. Honor me.
Tell the truth. You’ll be free.
Sing My praise all your days.
I will give all you need.

Truth is marching, truth is marching.

Turn from sin; cleansed within.
Stand in awe of My Name.
Teach what’s true. Walk in peace.
Follow Christ, in His ways.

Truth is marching, truth is marching.

Show to God faithfulness.
Do not be adult’rous.
Do not shed shallow tears.
Do not be insincere.

Truth is marching, truth is marching.

I have sent messengers,
Who have giv’n my address.
They call for repentance,
And they warn of judgment.

Truth is marching, truth is marching.

I, the Lord, do not change,
So return – blessings gain:
Healing comes; joyfulness;
Freedom from your distress.
