[Matthew 21:22 KJV] "And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

What happens if someone thinks this verse applies to them and not to Israel as intended?

They have a loved one who is sick and they pray for and expect healing. but it doesn't happen

They are then told they didn't have enough faith, or they aren't following the Lord purely enough

They will tell a grieving person it was their fault their loved one wasn't healed just to maintain the belief that this verse is meant for them

Not rightly dividing the word of God has real world consequence

What Jesus says applies to everyone one earth, unless he specifically says otherwise when saying it. God "is no respecter of persons" and with God, "there is no shadow of turning." God wants the truth and same righteousness for everyone, regardless of who they are or what they believe or fail to believe.

You can think all Jesus said applies to you
Jesus said to forsake everything and sell all so is that for you?

I do not know anyone who has sold everything. Jesus was talking to a specific person who was quite wealthy when he said that. Of course, some things Jesus says are aimed at one person, such as he called King Herod a "fox" and he called conservative religionists "liars", "hypocrites" and "blind leaders of the blind", but when not addressing a specific person or group, what Jesus teaches applies to everyone. God wants the same morality and upright heart for everyone. The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus died for all people, but people have to accept his forgiveness and salvation in order to be saved from their sins.

You are right, but that's by accident. I say that we have to know who scripture is talking to in order to discern if I am to obey a certain commandment.
What is being done here is to excuse yourself from the obligation of keeping all Jesus commanded

[Acts 2:44 KJV] "And all that believed were together, and had all things common;"
[Acts 2:45 KJV] "And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all [men], as every man had need." ********* these believers didnt think Jesus was just talking to a singular person

The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus died for all people,
Afraid not

[Matthew 26:28 KJV] "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." ********* Jesus shed his blood for MANY NOT ALL ********** [Matthew 1:21 KJV] "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." ********* Jesus came to save his people Israel ********** [Matthew 15:24 KJV] "But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

[2 Corinthians 5:14 KJV] "For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:" ********* Only Paul revealed Christ died for all
