Under Grace, Should We Continue to Sin?

Should Christians still try to obey the 10 commandments?

...and please forgive me as I am a newbie Christian. Several on this thread have mentioned that we are no longer under "the law". Which law are we referring to? I was under the thought that we should always keep the commandments as they are God's laws given to us to live righteously-I absolutely believe that we should live as the 10 commandments were given to us, so that we do receive salvation...but if there's scripture that states otherwise, please point me in the right direction and explain your view (or please point me to a thread that will better explain it to me.) Thanks for y'alls patience with me...I have so many questions!

Dear Kamiller1972,

i strongly feel led to warn you. You say that you get confused that is exactly the works of the devil; he wants to deceive you with false teachings and confusing words so that you will err from the Truth and be led away from the Truth into deception.

Please know that the only thing that will keep you is God and the word of God, and know that not everything is what it seems to be: not all sheep are really sheep if you know what i mean to say.. , there are those who outwardly look to be fine ministers of righteousness and look and act just like sheep but inwardly they are ravening wolves. And there's the goats too, they are not sheep they have the head knowledge but have not the Spirit they are stubborn and talk only out of the mind; denying the supernatural power of God! And there's the tares as an example given by The Word; tares look just like wheat but they are sown by the devil amongst the wheat they are the children of the devil.

i strongly would like to encourage you to get your answers from The Lord Jesus Christ through prayer and especially the word of God only, Best by yourself studying it and by praying to God and not to listen to what man say's especially if it confuses you or does not agree with Scripture. Always pray and watch out and be careful for false teachings! These are very rampant in this dark and apostate hour; sometimes i get overwhelmed with confusion in someone's words too then i know something is not right here so ask God for spiritual discernment and protection also good to do that every time you listen to a teacher at church or read anything on the internet this forum included as there is false teaching here too i can't stress it enough... if you could get one year to study the word of God just for yourself reading it and praying to God for Him to show you the Truth if things are difficult to understand that would be a very very good thing to do in my humble opinion.

Take care now,
DutchChristian

P.S. The 10 Commandments are divided into 2 groups, viz.: God-centered (Ex. 20: 1-11) and people-centered (Ibid, 20: 12-17).

Just for satisfying the former, in terms of seeking and finding the true knowledge of God, all our sins will be forgiven pronto! (Jer. 31: 31-34) Amen.

Here is a framework of the great salvation or a thread which you will find increasingly self-explanatory as you continue to study the Bible.

The 10 Commandments indicate God's absolute standards of righteousness, for man's first steps towards regaining the lost knowledge of God in the post-Edenic era from which, without a single exception, all human beings keep falling short of.

The last steps towards salvation by being "born again" in the image of God, a.k.a., "life-giving breath" or the Spirit, are found in Christ's death on the cross, in effect, making a full circle back to the starting point at "the tree of life".
(John 3: 1-15; Luke 23: 40-43; Gen. 2: 7-25)

I pray that you will find it. Amen.

Any past, present and future disciple of Jesus Christ, who is "set free" by personally knowing the truth, has no fear of confusion whatsoever! (John 8: 31-32)

The confusion is prevalent in all other solutions of disobedience!

I voted yes because the Ten Commandments are the guide for a Christian to live. Paul spoke of honoring the father and mother (Ephesians 6).

I love those opinion polls! They are so easy to stack from one's own perspective as to not leave a spot for any real opposing view...
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

I follow no law simply because the bible says I am free from the Law but the Holy Spirit who leads and guides me in all truth never violates God's heart.
The difference is more than wording, it is a matter of trying to please God by self works (striving to obey the Law) or being under grace and walking with the Spirit of God (abiding in the Vine of Heaven).
And, it is the very fact that I am not under the Law that leaves me free from the bondage of a lifestyle of sin:
Rom_6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

You are correct that we ought not focus on obedience. Obedience is a fruit of our following Jesus, a natural born result of our knowing and loving Him, that comes through prayer and study of His word. Our obedience is a gift from God that we accept by faith, and walk and live in it. To focus on the law and attempt to obey it in our own strength is legalism.
However, we must be equally careful to not set aside the law. When Paul says that we are no longer under the law, he wasn't speaking as if the law has disappeared and we need not obey it. He was saying that we are no longer under its condemnation. Paul was contrasting grace with being under the law. Rom. 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace, and using that as the reason why sin has no more power. The power of sin didn't go away because the law was taken away, but rather because Jesus died, removing the condemnation of the law. So the law must still be obeyed, but it no longer is something we need promise or attempt to do.
It is our work to believe this and God will perform it. So we have the law as a mirror. It doesn't wash away sin, it reveals it. We still need that. So when we see the sin revealed to us through our study of God's law, we repent and surrender to Him, confessing our sin and trusting in Him to root it out. We cannot ignore the law...it is God's standard of righteousness...nor must we focus or make it central in our lives...we make Jesus our focal point and He will save us from all sin, and He will often use the law to show us all that we have a way to go yet in meeting His perfect standards.
But we must never be disheartened. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Read about David again. He prostrated himself and begged forgiveness from God. God forgave him, as God does all our sins, however we have to pay the consequences of our sins. David lost a son with Bathsheba, a son raped a daughter, a son was killed by his brother, two other sons tried to take control of the throne. He paid for his sins and yet God called him a man after his own heart.

I voted yes and its needed for our salvation. If you think not can someone explain James 2:12 i belive where it says we will be judged by the perfect law of liberty. Or in Rev. 3 times in Rev.12:17/14:12/20:14 . Its a characteristic of those faithful who standing with Jesus at the time of the end. 1 John talks all about that too. God bless

Not that we should keep them to earn salvation but we keep them because we are saved so to speak

We should try to keep the commandants of our lord, Jesus, which in turn, the commandants. There are several reasons to do this:

A: Personal Benefit. Many of the things thought through out the bible, even the law, was given for protection of the people. If the people obeyed, then their live was better then had they disobeyed. Although we are not under the law, we should still heed what it has to say, and most importantly, the ten commandants, have to say.

B: Encouragement for believers: Obeying the ten commands to the best of your abilities and not being boastful about it can be a great encouragement to those who are struggling to live a Christian life, especially if you encourage them with love and compassion.

C: Interesting the unbelievers: By living the Bible, your going to be viewed differently from others, which will cause people to look toward you. If people see your faith in the Lord is strong, and the benefits that come with it, even in the hardships of life, they may be encouraged to accept the Lord as their savor.

D: Love for the father: By obeying the commands, you so the love you have for the lord is true. The prophet Samuel stated to King Saul that obedience is better than sacrifice in the eyes of god.

We have to live a holy life, if we don't we will spiritually die and our names will be blotted out of the book of life. That is Biblical, don't be deceived by wolfs in sheep's clothing spreading cheap grace false doctrine.

How do you live a Holy life without sin? In this world Christian's aren't sinless, we only sin less. If you say I don't sin, then you are a liar and broke a commandment.

[h=1]Under Grace, Should We Continue to Sin?[/h]I find this to be a strange question for a Christian Forum and even stranger that it has 4 pages worth of post.
As Christians I think that it is obvious what the answer is... NO! We are not to continue in a life style of sin, this is not to say that we wont sin.
As Christians, as long as we live, we will always be in a process of progressive sanctification, each day growing.

TRY???? To Obey??? What laws today, are men and women not under? TRY not to kill someone? LOL If we try not to break any of the laws of our state but do, is there not a penalty? I am not mocking try,it is just I do not understand this word used by believers anymore is all. Breaking ANY law God made, or man made will have penaltys attached to it. The Ten Commandments were written not just because God himself cared for man and woman, but also to lead by example the laws for Kings and Governments as well I believe. Are not many of these same laws not attached by man today?

The world has looked to push our Lord aside as many of you know! Galatians 6:7-10!!! No matter what the world does, or thinks, God still holds true for them, whether they believe so or not. Governments are reminded daily of this by there own laws. Murder comes with great hardship to the person who commits this act. This law holds true yet today. There are so many great replays here! The law of God,holds true no matter what we care to believe,as does the laws made by man for us today, in each of our States or Country. As LOVE is defined by keeping all laws ( rom 13:8-10) Has love replaced any of the laws made by God,or has Love come to bring fulfillment to these laws? I believe the latter. Follow, and you shall live in peace, follow them not, and hardship shall be our reward! Try is not in any law. I would use this word myself so many times to excuse myself for not following,my reward for not doing was as Galatians 6:7-10. Without laws there is no justice, and without justice, there are no laws. But there are both,Both from our Lord, and from man he created. Blessing all! I answered yes and salvation DOES!!!! depend on it! For without love we have no laws, and without any laws, Jesus would never have had to come to place his stamp on them, by his own blood shed, and if we do not receive him,how can we be saved? Many of you may not think this way, that is fine, none of you will be with me to help me either when I go before my Lord Jesus either to answer for myself!! LOL I hope this has caused us all to really think. Good, and most intersting poll! except for the word try. hehe

There seemed to be 2 questions in the poll.

1.) Should Christians still try to obey the 10 commandments?
2.) Under Grace, should we continue to sin?

The answer to BOTH in my view is NO.

We are under the NC so the written Law has no hold or influence over us, and Grace does not give us licence to sin.
However to qualify, God will does not change, so He has written His Laws on our heart, which will not be in contradiction to anything He wills.
Christ died for ALL sin, once and for all, but it doesn't mean we should ignore His sacrifice by continuing to sin. We should also not get hung up on times we do sin. 1 John instructs us what to do in those cases. We are to walk a balanced life.

"Under grace should we continue to sin is a highly loaded question".

First of all, "under grace" assumes personal knowledge of Jesus Christ --the cornerstone of the "new covenant", whose oversight is known as "the log in one's eye" with the consequence of death in one's sins. In other words, there is no grace without personally revealed knowledge.

Once we take care of "the log in one's eye", on the basis of the irrevocable signature and seal in Christ's death on the cross, God's grace is all we need for his power is strongest when we are weak.
(Jer. 31: 31-34; Matt. 26: 26-29; 27: 50-56; 2 Cor. 12: 7-10)

We cannot help to sin by our very first nature in other innumerable ways. That is why life-giving and sin-cleansing water is made to pour out from the hearts of those who accompany Jesus as he is raised to glory in his death!
(John 7: 37-39; 12: 32-33; 14: 18-21; 19: 30-37; Eph. 4: 7-13)
