Daniisalivenow I know how you feel
I remember getting in the church and getting to a pew and getting seated, wasn’t as much a problem as getting up and walking out, with the crowd. Everyone seemed to be with someone, and it brought that lonely, feeling.
Felt the same way going to the movies alone. Getting in wasn’t so bad and getting seated, but after you walk out and everyone is holding hands, or laughing and talking. There was that feeling again.
Then like in a church, go to the coffee room, and get a cup and hold it and sort of stand against the wall while everybody laughs and talks, reminds me of being in a dance hall and standing against the wall, like a wall flower.
If I were ever to do it again, I would use the web. Search out a list of churches in your town. You can read their doctrine anomalously. Then look and see what activities the offer. Bible Study, quilting, scrapbooking, pick something that interests you. You only need one friend to expect and welcome you. Call the contact person and just tell them that you would like to come to their group. They will be thrilled, then you will have someone expecting you, when you do go to the group. And before you know it you will be walking into church and there are YOUR FRIENDS.
People are just preoccupied with their own friends and family. They forget to look around and say to themselves. Is there someone here alone?
The first thing I ever did to “Serve The Lord” was cut verses into puzzle shapes at a church luncheon (first one I ever went to). So everyone had to go around and find their match and sit with that person. Rearranged a few friendships I am sure. Anyway that was back in 1962 or 1963 haven’t got the year straight yet. I accepted the Lord when I was 8 months pregnant in Dec. of one year. In Jan. the next year my son Chuck was born. Then soon after that (I don’t remember who let me cut up bible verses for the luncheon). Even back then I was a VerseLady, but didn’t know it.
You can invite me to your baptism. If not let me know and I will send you something special.
Love in Christ,
Barbara
