What is God's righteousness?

[If] we are to seek His righteousness, what is it that we are to seek?

This verse is often repeated but who actually knows at all what it means?
It can roll off the lips, but, really, what is God's Righteousness?

It would probably help if we knew? Or is that part of the seeking?

Christ is the righteousness “of” God, which is imputed to those who truly believe, by the faith “of” Jesus Christ.

Romans 3:22
Even the righteousness “of”God which is by faith “of “ Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

It is by the seal of the Holy Spirit we receive this righteousness of God and faith of Christ.

Romans 4:11
And he received “the sign” of circumcision, “a seal of the righteousness of the faith” which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be “imputed”unto them also:

Philippians 3:9
And be found “in him,” not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith “of” Christ, the righteousness which is “of “God by faith:

What is God's righteousness?
God's labor of love or called work of his faith .

In that way not of our own fleshy work under the letter of the law "death" but again though the faith of Christ's labor of love

Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Some thoughts after mulling over your question: we seek the reign of God in our lives. The righteousness of God is revealed in His Son, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the fulfillment of God's righteousness and in Him we have everlasting life. Life eternal is to know God. Seeking Him perpetually.

1 John 1:7-10
[7]But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
[8]If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

[9]If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
[10]If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1 John 2:1-6
[1]My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
[2]And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
[3]And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
[4]He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
[5]But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
[6]He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

And these things are not of ourselves but of God who works in us.

Blessings dear sir.

Greetings,

Thank you for your replies.

If someone was to ask, what answer would we give to explain God's Righteousness?

Bless you ....><>

God's Righteousness, regarding SALVATiON< is to become or to be "Made Righteous".
This means literally that Jesus, who is God manifested in the Flesh.......lived a holy Life, sinless, and this LIFE is your Salvation.
God applies it to you as if you lived it, and Jesus takes your sin, as if He did it, and dies for them ALL.
When you are born again.....this means that you have BECOME "The Righteousness of GOD, In Christ".

God doing this for you, is :...."The GIFT of Salvation".....and "The Gift of Righteousness"....

When you have this Salvation, you are now "a new creation in Christ"......having become = A Son/Daughter of GOD.

If you are made righteous by God’s Righteousness, then you will no longer walk in unrighteousness.

Romans 5:19
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be “made righteous.”

Romans 6:18
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Romans 6:18
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Notice the verse is talking about the Born again.
It says they are made free from sin...

So, when you find someone who is "confessing sin and repenting", then you've discovered someone who isn't born again, or they are, but have no idea what Salvation is all about.

The word of God infallibly informs us what salvation is about .It leaves no room for unbelief, (no faith that could please God .)

I would think "confessing sin is repenting" Its all one in the same work of God working in mankind. God turning us toward Him not seen so we in turn can confess and bear the weight of sin the shame of youth .Yoked with him our burden can be lighter if we obey according to his name. .

Thomas called doubting. Thomas is used to show where the power to confess comes from .

I would call him non-believing Thomas like a Pharisee or Sadducees (no faith as it is writen in the law and prohets God's word .

Doubt is not the opposite of Christian faith . . .unbelief. . no faith as it is written is . Human doubt slowing them down enough to think .

Thomas was not with them that were confirmed of the baptism of the Holy Spirit . he was in unbekf and demanded like other unbelieving Jew that sek after sign to the literal eye pleasing proof. No faith from God unseen )

Note. . .(purple) my addition as a comment or suggestion.

John20 :22-27 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, (as a loving commandment let there be and it was good. ) Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

Thomas was given the loving commandment that worked in opening his mouth .the baptism of the Holy Spirit just as the other twelve. Not to be faithless (no faith not little)

John20 :28-31 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

The word of God infallibly informs us what salvation is about .It leaves no room for unbelief, (no faith that could please God .)

I would think "confessing sin is repenting"

the verse says......>"Being made FREE from Sin".

Its does not say, giving you sin for you to confess.

See, if you are "made FREE from sin", that is because Jesus has taken care of them all........so, that is why you are "MADE MADE MADE.... free"
That is not you doing it.,... as you can't make yourself free from sin, Garee. If you could then Jesus didnt have to die for all your sin.

To repent or acknowledge is a work of Christ working in us .(Not of us)

. I was saying he gives us the power to confess or repent . The commandment that turned him was: "be not faithless, but believing.
"

Then faithless Thomas acknowledged the lord was working in him and the Holy Spirt gave Thomas the prophet words . And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Again before he was given faith the power to believe working form within he had none not little zero . He was then given little the golden measure

Thomas was not given faith to believe. So, your Calvinism idea there, is a fail.
Jesus REPRIMANDED Thomas , just as He REPRIMANDED all of the Apostles when they were in the boat, and were afraid , and Jesus said... "WHERE is your FAITH"> ????????????????

So, if God is forcing faith down the throat of people as CALVINIST's like to pretend, then apparently He forgot to give Thomas his dose as well as the rest of the Apostle's, on that Boat.

Also, when Jesus says YOUR FAITH has made you whole, to many He healed, that is what He meant.
He didnt give it to them.......that had to BELIEVE.

I would say to seek The heart of God like David. For this not only reveals the inner most part of our God, but it also build that relationship deeper than words can express. For he reveals himself to those who seek him:) So it’s definitely part of the journey! And a beautiful one at that:)

Righteousness is the (right)ness of the Heart.

So to have Gods righetousness, is to have Gods heart. Which is given too us through Christ.

To have "God Righteousness" is to have the "GIFT of SALVATiON, and the "GIFT of RIGHTEOUSNESS".
You can't get those by trying to be good person, as you are a SINNER, and so, that ENDS, your "righteouness"
THis is why GOD had to come here, and DIE for YOUR SIN, so that HE can give you HIS "GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS".
If you die without this........ if you are never born again, then you will not go to heaven.
You have to be "Made Righteous", by God, through Christ to posess "the Gift of Righteousness".
This is to become born again., SPIRITUALLY.

This is why Jesus told YOU that ... "you must be born again", and He's not talking about water baptism.

Hello Bethel:)

None of this explains exactly what Righteousness is. Let alone Gods…

What would you say salvation is?

Hello Bethel:)

What would you say salvation is?

Salvation is JESUS.
ITs HIM..

From the Cross, Jesus said......>"it is FINISHED"............ What is Finished? = SALVATION.

God takes what Christ died to accomplished "(It is Finished"), and gives it to us as a GIFT. = "The Gift of Salvation", and .. "The Gift of Righteousness".

When a person truly understands that JESUS is Salvation, then they will understand that..

1. Jesus is Salvation
2. Jesus is Rightouesness
3. Jesus is Redeemer
4. Jesus is Eternal Life
5. Jesus is THE Resurrection.

So, when we Have JESUS in us...........as born again,......"Christ in you the hope of Glory", ...(Glory is Heaven), then we have become .. "The righteousness of God.....IN Christ".
This is why all the born again are spiritually = "Seated in HEAVENLY Places......in Christ"......right now.

This can get really confusing.

Can you be a little more specific?
Like what does it mean to be saved?
What are we being saved from?

God is Holy. This means He is untouched by Sin.

He has perfect Righteousness., and all who are in Heaven, have the same, or they would not be there.

Now, you have sin. You've sinned all your life. So, the problem is.....HOW do you end up in HEAVEN with HOLY GOD< when you are not Holy?
See that problem?
That's why people went to Hell today. They died never having solved that SIN issue.. that keeps them separated from God, until it is solved.

Now, you can't solve it, as you have sinned, and this problem that you can't solve, ... you need to be SAVED from this issue, this problem of unforgiven SIN.

Enter GOD. ....... John 3:16
He came to give you the righteousness that you dont have.
He came to give it to you as a GIFT. "The Gift of Righteousness".
Here is what He did... He sent Holy Jesus to the Cross, to die for All YOUR SIN. And He did, 2000 yrs ago.
2000 Yrs ago, Jesus died for ALL YOUR SIN....
And he did something more.....He went to the Cross having lived a perfect, holy, and sinless LIFE.
See that LIFE?
That is the "Gift of Salvation"< .........= that is, the Righteousness that God provides to you.......as a GIFT.
God takes your sin, and Jesus dies for them ALL, and God then gives you this LIFE of Christ, that Jesus lived as if you lived it..
See that? That is SALVATION.

How do you get that GIFT applied to you?

You have to give God your Faith, in Jesus, ...understanding that He died for your sin, which makes Jesus your SAVIOR.
And when you give God your faith, knowing that you need Jesus as your Savior, so that you can be given the "Gift of Righteousness", then God will give it to you instantly.. and that means all your sin is now paid for by Jesus.
God will then give you the "new birth" of your Spirit.

Being Born again, is your Spirit.........not your body, or your mind.
You become Born...........again...........as you are already born once......and now you must be born AGAIN.......... Spiritually.
This is what God does for everyone who will come to Jesus and say........"i need you, im a sinner, save me Lord Jesus, i BELIEVE."

"all that call on the name of Jesus, shall be saved".
Jesus said "all that believe in me, i give unto them Eternal LIFE.. and they shall NEVER Perish".

See that? that is placing you Faith in Christ......and God sees this faith inside you, and accepts it to then give you what Jesus has provided for you, on the Cross.

The Gift of Salvation.
The Gift of Righteousness.
