What is God's Righteousness?

-
God is Holy. This means He is untouched by Sin.

He has perfect Righteousness., and all who are in Heaven, have the same, or they would not be there.

Now, you have sin. You've sinned all your life. So, the problem is.....HOW do you end up in HEAVEN with HOLY GOD< when you are not Holy?
See that problem?
That's why people went to Hell today. They died never having solved that SIN issue.. that keeps them separated from God, until it is solved.

Now, you can't solve it, as you have sinned, and this problem that you can't solve, ... you need to be SAVED from this issue, this problem of unforgiven SIN.

Enter GOD. ....... John 3:16
He came to give you the righteousness that you dont have.
He came to give it to you as a GIFT. "The Gift of Righteousness".
Here is what He did... He sent Holy Jesus to the Cross, to die for All YOUR SIN. And He did, 2000 yrs ago.
2000 Yrs ago, Jesus died for ALL YOUR SIN....
And he did something more.....He went to the Cross having lived a perfect, holy, and sinless LIFE.
See that LIFE?
That is the "Gift of Salvation"< .........= that is, the Righteousness that God provides to you.......as a GIFT.
God takes your sin, and Jesus dies for them ALL, and God then gives you this LIFE of Christ, that Jesus lived as if you lived it..
See that? That is SALVATION.

How do you get that GIFT applied to you?

You have to give God your Faith, in Jesus, ...understanding that He died for your sin, which makes Jesus your SAVIOR.
And when you give God your faith, knowing that you need Jesus as your Savior, so that you can be given the "Gift of Righteousness", then God will give it to you instantly.. and that means all your sin is now paid for by Jesus.
God will then give you the "new birth" of your Spirit.

Being Born again, is your Spirit.........not your body, or your mind.
You become Born...........again...........as you are already born once......and now you must be born AGAIN.......... Spiritually.
This is what God does for everyone who will come to Jesus and say........"i need you, im a sinner, save me Lord Jesus, i BELIEVE."

"all that call on the name of Jesus, shall be saved".
Jesus said "all that believe in me, i give unto them Eternal LIFE.. and they shall NEVER Perish".

See that? that is placing you Faith in Christ......and God sees this faith inside you, and accepts it to then give you what Jesus has provided for you, on the Cross.

The Gift of Salvation.
The Gift of Righteousness.
Thank you for response and the time you have put into it:)

I don’t quite agree, but I will leave it at this for now. I don’t want to derail this post with a back and forth on Salvation. I will start a post on Salvation and we can finish discussing it there:)

[If] we are to seek His righteousness, what is it that we are to seek?

This verse is often repeated but who actually knows at all what it means?
It can roll off the lips, but, really, what is God's Righteousness?

It would probably help if we knew? Or is that part of the seeking?
It is a gift you receive, a declaration of how He sees those who believe Him (not just in Him - James 2:19)

I would think what we are to seek is the comfort we have as the "better thing" that accompanies (comes along side) salvation . He promises them (Philippian 1:6) if. . . he began the good teaching work in born again Christians he will finish til the last day. Some are slower learners like myself..

In that way there are no self taught Christians .God who name is Jealous will not share the glory of His teaching labor of love with dying mankind . All truth is God's truth. . it just must be acknowledged. "not of one's self". . . nothing comes from our flesh . . .me. . . myself or I that could profit towards salvation.

I would call it the healing side of the thorns that pricked the conscience of them that folowed the leter of the law death. They murdered the Christ out of sight out of mind .Having no faith in God not seen . like Paul before his conversion (giving glory to one self ) the gospel blinded his mind the healing began.

Hebrews 6:8-10 King James Version8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Again no self taught.

Christ in us . . .not Christ is us .They went out from us because they were never us as those that show His labor of love is working in those yoked with Christ. He makes our labor lighter knowing who it comes from. .

Greetings,

Thank you for your replies.

If someone was to ask, what answer would we give to explain God's Righteousness?

Bless you ....><>

God's standard for righteousness is the moral Law, I speak of the 10 commandments. Christ kept the moral Law perfectly when no other man could, that's how He became the perfect sacrifice for man's sin. The reason He came to this earth.

God the Father demands that man repent of his sins and believe in what His Son did on the Cross to redeem man from his sin. When man does this truly from the heart, the righteous standard of the Law is met. This righteousness is freely given even though we are in no way righteous. It is the gift of God for believing in His Son.

The righteousness of God can be explained as a perfect standing before God the Father. Meaning the believer has no fault in the sight of God. This can only be received through repenting of sin and believing in the finished work of Christ.

This righteousness is freely given even though we are in no way righteous. It is the gift of God for believing in His Son.
Thanks. . Very well said.. a little encouragement.

.As you replied, No way a righteousness of ourselves .But the Father not leaving us a orphans he gives the better thing that accompanies salvation .The lord promises to remember the good works as labors of love yoked with him. . . . . in and by the power of his name.(Hebrew 6)

The same comforting teaching God spoken of in John 14 reminding us of the previous things he has taught bringing each others needs in memory as they pray for others ..

Our living spiritual , infinite Buz hard drive . . to the universe and beyond . . . blast off. . energize the GPSola scriptura warp drive .Beam us up (LOL)

God's righteousness is imputed and imparted as a gift to man and not earned. It results in God's act of justification by faith through Christ. No one can have faith “in” Jesus until they first have the faith “of” Jesus Which comes by hearing his voice.

Greetings all,

as we have received His righteousness, what fruit can we/should we see?

Can we look at God's Righteousness [according to Scripture] and what it looks like?

Bless you ....><>

His righteousness like a rainbow a mix.

I would offer. .a mix of two laws that working together make one perfect or complete law . . . salvation . Christ does all the spiritual work or he does nothing. .

The just (the letter of the law) it kills and the unseen law of faith the justifier (let there be and it was good) .

Psalm 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

Romans 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

As long as mankind refuses to get under Christ's labor of His perfect love as a work of his faith as a law of working they will continue to walk in darkens.

Again Christ . . .all as perfect or nothing. . .

Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works?(alone) Nay: but by the law of faith

Hi Bear,

I think the question's too big. I don't think we can even grasp the concept of righteousness, it's probably beyond our understanding.

We think God's law is righteousness, not just the 10 commandments but the six hundred and odd laws and rules. If we keep every one of them from the moment of conception to the moment of death and don't break a single one, then that qualifies us to wear the badge of righteousness. The problem is that all those commandments are a watered down version of God's true righteousness, He's much more righteous than that! Take the 7th commandment, you shall not commit adultery. What's the definition of adultery? I think we can all agree that the Bill Clinton definition's a bit too liberal. Accepted morality says, you can look, but you can't touch. Jesus tells us that if you look at a married woman and ask yourself; 'hmmm ... I wonder what she's like between the sheets?' You've just committed adultery, yes, you might as well have slept with her! Matthew 5:27-28. God's law had just escalated from impossible to totally impossible; and yet Jesus lived up to that totally impossible standard.

Interestingly, the reverse seems to be true. Take the 4th commandment, Keep the sabbath day holy. The Pharisees' interpretation is stricter than Jesus's. He explained that it's fine to express love and compassion on the sabbath but the Pharisees couldn't get their heads around that. They couldn't, and to be fair, I don't think we can appreciate the power, the dazzling beauty and the wonder of righteousness. It's something we vainly strive to achieve, but one day, we will. 2 Corinthians 3:18.

A slightly clearer answer to the question might be to look at the antonym of righteousness. Anything that is not as pure and holy as God is sin. It's very binary, there's righteous and there's sin, and there's nothing in between.

Hope that clarifies - a bit :p

What is God's righteousness?
Hello @Br. Bear,

Looking back over previous responses that you have received to your OP, and considering these words in the light of the time that they were spoken, and to whom, I believe that the context should be considered in answer to your question, 'What is God's righteousness'?

The sermon on the mount began at Matthew 5:1 and extends to 7:29, so this verse (6:33) forms part of that. From 5:15-7:12 the subject is 'The Kingdom' and it's laws.
These words were spoken to the Lord's disciples, not to the multitude (5:1): and this teaching is connected with the proclamation of the Kingdom, and is to be interpreted by it (5:3). As the Kingdom was rejected, and is now in abeyance, so likewise this discourse is in abeyance with all it's commands, until, 'the gospel of the Kingdom' is again proclaimed, to herald that it is drawing near.

'And this gospel of the kingdom
shall be preached in all the world
for a witness unto all nations;
and then shall the end come.'
(Mat 24:14)

* The gospel being preached today is, 'Is the gospel of the grace of God', as delivered by the Apostle Paul (Acts 20:24)

'But none of these things move me,
neither count I my life dear unto myself,
so that I might finish my course with joy,
and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus,
to testify the gospel of the grace of God.'
(Act 20:24)

* The righteousness of God had been the subject of the Old Testament Prophets (Gen. 15:6), and so was not new to the Lord's hearers in Matthew 5:33, but it is through Paul that it is fully revealed, as in (Rom 3:21-31)

'But now (at this present time) the righteousness of God
.. without the law
.... is manifested,
...... being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
........ Even the righteousness of God
.......... which is by faith of Jesus Christ
............ unto all and upon all them that believe:
for there is no difference:
.. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
.... Being justified freely by His grace
...... through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
........ Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation
.......... through faith in His blood,
............ to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
.............. To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness:
................ that He might be just, and the justifier of Him which believeth in Jesus.'
(Rom 3:21-26)

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Greetings recent posters,

Yes ,I would offer It looks like his mercy mixed with grace.
He explained that it's fine to express love and compassion
........ Even the righteousness of God
.......... which is by faith of Jesus Christ
............ unto all and upon all them that believe:
.. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

I have selected a little bit that speaks somewhat of the Righteousness of God, from your replies, for which i do thank you. Please note that the bits/parts I did not quote are not to be thrown out but if i may...

it seems that we are looking at the letter and have 'missed' what is written? [generally speaking from the replies in the thread thus far - no judgement though]

If i /we could please look at the bits i have quoted here.
Mercy and Grace; Love and Compassion... for who? [hint... it was not for only those who believe ... but it is for all who believe to be partakers of in a way that expressed/expresses itself in/by faith. note that "all have sinned" ]
.............. To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness:
................ that He might be just, and the justifier of Him which believeth in Jesus.'

Who is this Jesus....
.... Being justified freely by His grace
...... through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

These passages/verses show to some extent the 'result' of His Righteousness.

Yet there is something that we seem to be missing. Perhaps rather than looking at the result, we would be better served to consider again, what does God's righteousness look like [again, not the result or even the effect, but let's look a little closer at our Father's heart and, if possible, hear His heartbeat. ]

All through Scripture we see His Righteousness.

hint two: is it related to His Love?

Bless you my Brothers and Sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ ....><>

Subject heading:- 'What is God's righteousness?'

Hello @Br, Bear,

I think @Andyindauk is right, this question is too big for our finite minds to grasp fully. :)

The verse that insists on coming into my mind is this,

'To declare, I say,
.. at this time
.... His righteousness:
...... that He might be just,
........ and the justifier
.......... of Him which believeth in Jesus.'
(Rom. 3:26)

It is not grammatically possible to say that, 'God is righteous and righteous-ifies him which believeth in Jesus': but we can say that, 'God is just and the justifier of him that believeth in Jesus', and in doing so say the same thing, for it has the same meaning.

God's righteousness is His justice. It is His love which enables Him to temper mercy with justice and graciously impute His righteousness unto, 'him that believeth in Jesus'. For it while 'he' was yet a sinner that Christ died for 'him' (
Romans 5:8).

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Greetings,

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Matthew 5:45

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously:
1Peter 2:23

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
1Peter 3:9

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Luke 6:35

For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 5:46-48

----------------------

ח
The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

ט
The LORD is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works.

י
All Thy works shall praise Thee, O LORD; and Thy saints shall bless thee.

כ
They shall speak of the glory of Thy kingdom, and talk of Thy power;

ל
To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.

מ
Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

ס
The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

ע
The eyes of all wait upon Thee; and Thou givest them their meat in due season.

פ
Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

צ
The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all His works.

Psalm 145:8-17

---------------------

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 6:14-15

----------------

If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:1-11

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2Peter 3:9

Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore He rises to show you compassion, for the LORD is a just God. Blessed are all who wait for Him.
Isaiah 30:18

He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Notice the verse is talking about the Born again.
It says they are made free from sin...

So, when you find someone who is "confessing sin and repenting", then you've discovered someone who isn't born again, or they are, but have no idea what Salvation is all about.
Explain please.
The confessing and repenting and not being born again if you would.

Its possible to be water baptized, yet not born again.
Its possible to confess sin, and not be born again.

Beng born again, is God forgiving all sin, based on the Cross of Christ, and then performing a SPIRITUAL Birth, of the BELIEVER's Spirit.

Jesus said "You must be BORN...again".... and the reason He says "Again", is because you are already born once, = that is you Earth Birthday.
And that one is not a spiritual birth.

= "Born........again"..... "by my Spirit, sayeth the Lord".... Is the 2nd Birth... or...."BORN.....again"... by the Holy Spirit of God.

If a person is never born again, >Spiritually< = then they exist here, right now, and forever.

John 3:36

Rom 3:23 . . All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

Well; in my own experience, that statement has been 100% reliable because I have
yet to encounter somebody who I felt was successful at duplicating God's sinless
perfection. So then, I've concluded that God has set the bar so high that nobody
can reach it. His own goodness is the gold standard and, speaking for myself, I
can't even come close to equaling it let alone topping it.

When I was a young guy coming of age, it occurred to me that if I were as naturally
pleasing to God as His son Jesus always is, then it would be very easy to attain to
Heaven and to stay in Heaven without fear of being kicked out: that would be the
cat's meow.

John 8:29 . . He that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone; for I
do always those things that please Him.
_

Matt 5:20 . . I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the
Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of
heaven.

Well the thing is: the piety of those two groups was superb and they were greatly
respected in the Israel of that day as primo role models. But their piety was cultural
rather than intrinsic; in other words; their righteous was produced by training
rather than by nature. In point of fact, they were by nature quite deplorable. (Matt
23:13-33)

John 4:23 . .Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father
seeks.

In other words: God prefers to associate with folks who are righteous by nature
rather than only righteous by compliance with the structure of a religious system:
not even when it's His own God-given system.
_

There are moral responsible people, who were water baptized and went to church every Sunday, for 40 yrs.
Today they died and went to Hell.

There are horrible people, who always used the family food and rent money to buy marijuana and booze.
Yesterday, they trusted in Christ and died in a car wreck, after they left the only church service they'd attended in 38 yrs.
They are in Heaven.

A.) Jesus said...>"you must be born ..,, again".

If you're not, you dont go to Heaven when you die.
