What is love?

Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything, save to love one another: for who loveth the other hath fulfilled the law.
9 For Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, in the Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to the neighbour: love therefore is fulfillment of law.

Greetings Chris,

* This is interesting isn't it, within this context. What can you say concerning it?

i nearly posted the following in my first reply, but it best to wait

hint: who (how) do we look at [besides looking unto Jesus] - something to do with how He look(s) (ed) at people and that, from How the Father looks at His Son.... so do we reciprocate, given the grace bestowed? I think John wrote somewhat about it in his account/Gospel... whosoever... my Father and I .... abide
Who does His work in those Who come unto Him?

Bless you ....><>

PS have been thinking of you and your husband and the chap who came knocking [from your confession above].... and praying for opportunity from the Lord for you all ....><>

perhaps another way is

The Father looks with love upon His Son
The Son looks with love upon me*
I* look with love upon others
(*whosoever)

* In my limited understanding, the words of Matthew 6:22 within it's context, means (to us) that if our eye be single, having one object of it's vision, namely the Lord Jesus Christ, at God's right hand in heavenly places, and the treasure of 'all' spiritual blessings that await us there, as God's own inheritance in heavenly places. Then our whole body will be full of light. We will have a clear vision

May I reword this slightly, Chris?

*if our eye be single, having one object of vision, namely the vision our Lord Jesus Christ look(ed)(s)with, Who, being at God's right hand in heavenly places, and the treasure of 'all' spiritual blessings that await us there, as God's own inheritance in heavenly places, then our whole body will be full of light. We will have a clear vision to love with, [with singleness, by faith]

For where your treasure is,
there will your heart be also.
out of the abundance of the treasure in our heart, we look upon others, we love as He loved us with a pure heart (or single)

[gives a different vision of ==>
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth,
where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Bless you ....><>

Greetings Chris
@complete

have you considered this:

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
Matthew 6:22

in His love
wherewith He loved us

'For God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness,
hath shined in our hearts,
to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God
in the face of Jesus Christ.'
(2 Cor. 4:6)

Hello Br. Bear,

This verse came into my mind this morning as I thought about your reply (above). Isn't this splendid? Look at it in situ:-

'Therefore seeing we have this ministry,
as we have received mercy, we faint not;
But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty,
.. not walking in craftiness,
.... nor handling the word of God deceitfully;
...... but by manifestation of the truth
........ commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
.. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not,
.... lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, [photismos - G5462 = illumination (figurative)]
...... who is the image of God,
........ should shine unto them.
.......... For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord;
............ and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
For God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, [Gr. phos - G5457 = underived light]
.. hath shined in our hearts,
.... to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God [Gr. photismos - G5462- illumination (figurative)]
...... in the face of Jesus Christ.'
( 2 Cor. 4:1 -6 )

* Just as in the creation of the world, in the new creation that takes place within the believer, the light shines.

'But if we walk in the light,
as He is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son
cleanseth us from all sin.'
(1 John 1:7)

* In the book, 'Figures of Speech used in the Bible, it says in regard to this verse (quote):- "Here, when it is a question of 'walking in the light,' the saved sinner is reminded of that which put him there and which alone can keep him there." Whereas in 1 John 2:1 where it is a question of sin ('if any man sin'), the sinful child is reminded, not of the blood, but of the Father, with Whom Christ, the righteous One, is the Advocate, to show that relationship has not been broken.

* Now I have found the portion which I believe you were leading me to in this thread regarding love, by referring to light, see (1 John 2:7-11) where love and light are brought together:-

' Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you,
but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning.
The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
Again, a new commandment I write unto you,
which thing is true in Him and in you:
because the darkness is past,
and the true light now shineth.
He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness,
and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.'
(1 John 2:7-11)

Thank you, Br. Bear.

Thank you, Br. Bear, it was after 12.00 midnight when I typed that. Thank you for re-wording it.
