What is the widely agreed upon view of Christians with schizophrenia?

What he said is "my dad is involved in freemasonry Or some type of practice contrary to Christian life."
Same diff.
Point: involvement in Freemasonry results in a curse (and a generational curse over the children) and its consequences, and it needs to be dealt with spiritually in order to get set free of it.

That which ReborninChrist Needs to do is get back with a Dr. to get an up-to-date diagnosis and then stay on the medications prescribed.

Sue, that you would pride-out and ignore the posted scriptural imperatives and the fate of a bro in need is about enough for anyone with discernment.

A question for you -- have you been born again?
Yes.

And I'm not going to play your worldly game.

RebornInChrist, if you wish to continue to dialogue, I would be honored. If so, please address me specifically and I will respond. Godspeed, my friend.

I have a friend I've known for 25 years who struggles with her mental health (bi-polar).

Every so often she gets in touch with Christians who claim healing over her or pray to cast out oppressive spirits and encourage her to give up her meds.

The result is always the same.

First she has and exhilarating manic phase in which she's out of control and can make damaging or dangerous decisions, and is disruptive in the church community.

This is followed by a long depression in which she's unable to get out of bed or talk to anyone for months at a time.

Eventually, after a lot of prayer and support the medication regime is restored and a little balance returns.

The people who make these false promises are never around to clear up the damage they have done.

I know God heals, and I've seen it many times. But miracles don't come to order, and often we need to be prepared to be faithful to God in times of affliction.

Hekuran:

That's a common (and tragic) scenario that I am continually dealing with here re: the local denomination that is set on working its way to salvation. They have stood down on appropriating God's authority and are thus powerless. Rather than setting the demonized free, they loose them outside their "church," an abomination of the first magnitude, and we are left to deal with the debris.

Many so-called Christians are themselves in bondage. Being righteous (doing things "right") via obedience is a requirement. Bottom line: Without the ever-unpopular repentance, there can be no deliverance. The victim himself must confess, repent and forgive. (See post #21 for details.)

...we need to be prepared to be faithful to God in times of affliction.
...wise words.

Hello. Before I was saved I had many mental issues which I suppressed and I attempted to correct them through shear will power. However, when you suppress something it will always come out in another form, hence your problem. If you continue to sweep dust under a carpet you will eventually have dust coming out of the sides when you walk on it and all sorts of insects will live there. If we throw away the dust and dirt and vacuum the carpet we will not have a secondary problem because we have dealt with it correctly.

We want to be perfect because society and those in authority over us (like our parents) expect us to behave in a manner that is socially acceptable. We are taught that you must suppress the negative emotions, thoughts, ideas, etc and grab onto the positive. Well, I have yet to find anyone who can change their life by suppressing the negative and being positive. I went through life hurt after hurt, rejection after rejection and just suppressed my true feelings about every issue. I was an extreme people pleaser not wanting anyone to hurt me but I never achieved it. I looked for love in all the wrong places. As we grow up we are expected to know “everything” and get knocked down when we don’t. I lived in denial as to my true condition – a sinner in need for a saviour. Jesus called people like me, once a perfectionist, whitewashed walls who have a form of godliness but deny His power in them. I heard voices and sounds in my head and I even saw things on curtains that were faces looking at me. However, I kept my trust that as a child of God, because of what Jesus did on the cross, I have been consecrated (set apart unto God) and have been sanctified, am now being sanctified (made holy) and will continue to be sanctified (until Jesus returns) by the Holy Spirit as He ministers directly or through others the Word of God to me. The more freedom I find in Christ the more I am set free to allow God to deal with my issues. When a drug addict comes to his senses and asks is father for help, his father does not say get right first he accepts him back and then starts the process of getting his son restored through whatever agency he can because he loves him. God does not expect us to be perfect when we come to Him he wants us to be realistic and face reality that we are sinful and need His perfect help in getting us back to normal. Please read Psalm 127:1-2; Psalm 32;

28 years later I am still being sanctified but I am a far cry from what I used to be. We must enter into His rest in attempting to sort out our problems and let God work His righteousness in us from the inside out. The truth is that we cannot atone (do something to bring us back into a right relationship with God again by trying to be perfect) for our own sin because God requires a perfect person to atone for us. Therefore, having sent His Son (John 1:1-5 and 14-18) into the world He, being the perfect, died by taking Gods judgement on Himself. Having no sin in Himself, Jesus Christ did what we could not do for ourselves, that is justify us before God (Romans 5:1). We were never meant to attempt to keep the whole law, including the Ten Commandments, these were a schoolmaster to lead us to Christ that we may be justified before God by faith in Him (Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith). Matter of fact, anyone found to be under the law is under a curse Gal_3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.Gal_3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree. Jesus became the curse for us that we might be made free and return again to God. This does not mean that the law is now negated and that we can live as we please, contrary, we keep the law because we are saved and we keep it out of our relationship with God. Hebrews 8:10 points this out to us Heb 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people. Ezek 36:26-27; 2 Cor 3. Yes, this verse says Israel but we are grafted into the vine upon salvation and therefore it pertains to us too. First for the Jew then for the gentile (Rom 1:16).

What is the meaning of schizophrenia (taken from a secular on line dictionary). This is what the world calls the condition but calls it the result of sin.

NOUN

psychiatry

a long-term mental disorder of a type involving a breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion, and behaviour, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings, withdrawal from reality and personal relationships into fantasy and delusion, and a sense of mental fragmentation.

Now I am going to attempt to be brief as possible regarding mental issues please read the following carefully. I am not saying stop your medication. If you have a relationship with God He will bring you to a place where you have complete trust in His ability to restore you mentally. As He has been doing with me so He will do for you too – God has no favourites.

Very briefly I give you what I know. We are created in the image of God. God is three persons in absolute unity with each other. Jesus said if you see Him you see the Father and Jesus is the exact representation of the Father in heaven. Matter of fact Jesus was the fulness of the Godhead in bodily form (Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.). We have three parts to us: body, soul and spirit. The soul is again in three parts, namely, mind, will and emotions. In perfection Adam had Christ on the throne of his heart and He walked in relationship with God. When Adam sinned he died spiritually and lost his relationship with God. Not only this, sin corrupted the mind, will and emotions and these become separated from each other too. It may seem strange to you but the soul is separate from the brain. The brain only assists us to have a physical way of seeing, tasting, feeling, smelling and hearing and learning through them. These five senses also become disjointed and can cause us to fear even more due to our lack of understanding. We can relate to and communicate with others and learn things that are in the physical realm. The body, through sexual intercourse with a woman, reproduces itself but God gives the soul and spirit. When the body dies it goes, together with the brain into the ground. The soul on the other hand returns to God who gave it. There it will be judged. If we are in Christ that judgement will not affect us because we believe in His resurrection we also believe we will be resurrected too (1 Corinthians 15). He was the first fruits of the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20). How can this be? It is because those in Christ Jesus are forgiven all their sins and God remembers them no more.

We all know the tabernacle of Moses in the wilderness. We have heard it in sermons and in Sunday School but the tabernacle points to Jesus Christ in whom God dwells with His people. It was a perfect representation of the one in heaven. There are three parts to the tabernacle: the Outer Court, The Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. We are made up of these three parts too. The Holy of Holies is where Christ reigns in our hearts -if we are in Him. All those who are in the first Adam have self reigning on the throne and it is where demons can, if permitted through practicing the occult, possess a person. It is where the spirit of antichrist will want to reign. The Holy Place is the soul. Here we perceive the thoughts of God (1 Corinthians 2) as we are in relationship to Him. It is also the place where we perceive things through the five senses and relate to things in the physical world. Those who are not in Christ do not have spiritual contact with God they are taught by a fallen world. The battle is for the mind. The Outer Court relates to our bodies it is what is connected to this physical world and is affected by it. A true believer in Christ has Him on the throne and therefore cannot be demon possessed. When light enters in it pushes out the darkness just like when you switch on a light in a dark room. When the light is turned on you can safely navigate around any obstacles in your way. So too when the light of Christ enters His light shines in our heart and we start to move away from our sin. Jesus said clean the cup on the inside and then the outside of the cup will be clean too.

I could give you more on this subject and you are welcome to contact me at any time to exchange email addresses (I do not reside in the USA.). This is purely your choice. You need someone to come alongside you and minister to you in the power of the Holy Spirit taking the Word of God and applying it to your heart (2 Corinthians 3:1-3). You should attempt to find a true bible centred church with a Pastor who can take you through the scriptures. It is my sincere prayer that this teaching helps you because I know what you are going through and I know how God, through Jesus Christ, has helped me. Please read through all the scriptures quoted above prayerfully.

@UncleD -- that which you're suggesting is that once a person is a born again believer, that God can take care of any mental issues a person might have. You're comparing being a drug addict to having a mental illness. Not the same at all.

And, while it Is true that God Can and Does heal -- well -- Jesus Christ is the great physician. We Do live in a fallen world and there are diseases of various kinds. And it's Also true that people have been known to create their own physical / emotional problems. However, Most of the time -- sickness, mental or physical are not the result of sinfulness in a person's life.

IF salvation Was a cure-all for every / all illnesses -- then No born again believer would ever experience illness again. Or the illness would be Because of their sinning. So -- confess all your sins and you'll never be sick again?! Well -- it doesn't really work that way.

And there are Probably those who would be really disturbed by someone telling them that they Really need to get right with God in order to be freed from their sickness.

You're sharing from Your personal situation. Everyone of us is a unique person.

And, yes, salvation Is , no doubt, the most important decision a person will ever make -- our eternal destiny is determined by our acceptance or rejection of Jesus Christ.

Rather, you and I are the "church" - it's called the ekklesia - literally, "the called out ones," the assembly of believers. We have been CALLED OUT from the unclean thing. THIS is the "church" as we speak - where two or more are gathered together in his name.

Mainstream evangelical Christianity is in freefall. Instead of helping the afflicted, teaching each other how to cast out demons, they "cast out" the person from the church! This is abominable before the Lord.

The church is in denial and has stood down. They have not a clue about how to wage successful spiritual warfare. They have blood on their hands. Do not look there.

You are dealing not only with demons, but also with curses - some or all of which are not of your own doing (i.e. generational). You can crucify your flesh all day long, but you cannot crucify a demon! Nor can you cast out your flesh! So the order of events is this: First, you crucify your flesh, THEN you cast out the demon(s) (and their curses with them).

It's time to get set free. Are you motivated? Do you truly want to be set free? The question is not rhetorical. Recall the lame man at the pools of Bethesda (read John chap 5), who had his friends carry him to the pools annually, in hopes of being the first into the water after an angel had stirred it up. The first in, was the first to be healed. But he could never be the first one in, because others more healthy would always beat him to it. When Jesus saw him, the first thing Jesus said to him was "Do you want to be healed?" To us, it seems like an obvious thing, but IT IS VITAL that you WANT to be healed. Imagine the annual ritual, probably a great deal of partying and revelry, to make that trip with his friends to the pools every year. He had been infirmed for 38 YEARS. IOW, he had become "comfortable" with the trek; he had become habitualized to it all; maybe he didn't want to give it up...

This is not a game, this is spiritual warfare.

I prefer that deliverance take place among other true believers, because I want to be held accountable and I covet their support. But self-deliverance is also a possibility.

Short version:

Your words are the vehicle by which you can effect change in the spiritual realm; we live and die by them. So SPEAK THIS OUT LOUD, so there be no doubt, in a place of no distraction, in your prayer closet.

1- humility
God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. So when you come to him, you must come with an attitude of complete humility. Ask the Holy Spirit to be present with you and to bring to your remembrance all that is necessary for deliverance.

2- confess
God already knows your entire story, but he requires that you bring it into the light. Confess all your sins, known and unknown, to the Lord. Call a spade, a spade - not an agricultural implement. IOW, keep it direct, simple and honest. Don't worry about your dignity; it will return later.

Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech...Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (2 Cor. 3:12, 17)

I keep what I call my "Laundry List" - a listing of my sins, everything I can remember, presently about 30 items/sins going all the way back. It's on my thumb drive. I call it a laundry list because laundry will eventually get washed clean! I pray over EVERY item.

3- repent
You must detest your sin. Tell the Lord you hate it. Turn completely away from it.

4-forgive
For most, this is the hardest part because some have been horribly harmed (e.g. rape, incest, etc.). But, if you do not forgive ALL OTHERS, God will not forgive you. Remember that this is NOT an emotion, it is a CHOICE. Yes, you may be holding a lawful I.O.U., but now you are CHOOSING to tear up that I.O.U.!!! Also remember to forgive your forefathers, your ancestors, your rellies, back to the third and fourth generations. Why? Because the sins of the forefathers i.e. those in authority over you, are visited down to the third and fourth generation i.e. to YOU. For example, do you know with certainty that there are no spirits of drunkenness or murder or adultery or witchcraft in your family line? No, you do not, so you must stand in the gap and FORGIVE THEM UNCONDITIONALLY nonetheless. Doing so closes the door to those generational demons. Don't forget to specifically address your father and his Freemason history (that is the sin of witchcraft). YOU ARE REMOVING THEIR LEGAL RIGHT TO TORMENT YOU AND YOUR OFFSPRING when you forgive your rellies. The first to forgive is the first to get set free.

Remember that God sees and records all. ALL will be held accountable for their own sins,

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. (Rom. 12:19)

5-claim and appropriate his authority, and EXPEL
Claim Jesus Christ as your Saviour AND Lord. Be absolutely certain that you are his.

There is only one thing more powerful that satan and/or his demons, and that is Jesus Christ. When we come into OBEDIENCE thru REPENTANCE and FORGIVENESS, then we can effectively appropriate Christ's authority and deal victoriously with the enemy.

Now that you have proclaimed your Authority, you may call out i.e. EXPEL the unclean spirit. You do not need to know its name, but only what it does. Example: In Jesus Christ's name, demon of lust, GET OUT. ("Get out" is precisely the words that Jesus Christ said - simple and to the point.)

Demon of rejection, in Jesus' name, GET OUT; demon of pride, GET OUT; demon of pharmakeia/drug use, suicide, sexual impurity; witchcraft; occult; vulgar language; envy; jealousy; fear; etc. etc.

After expelling, give the demon time to come out by not saying anything more, IOW, give it time to come out without blocking it. You can have BELIEVER friends there praying for you, quoting the word of God aloud. If you have friends with you, be sure they are of one accord, i.e. they must be in complete agreement, lest the enemy will take advantage of their lack of unity and perhaps stop the deliverance.

When a demon comes out, you might cough and/or bring up sputum, or yawn widely, or feel a great weight removed, or a brightness experienced, or perhaps nothing noticeable at all. Listen for the Holy Spirit, follow his guidance. Others may get a word of knowledge about the situation from the Lord.

They also open doors to the enemy, as intended. This is a spiritual battle; your weapons are not physical, but THE BATTLE IS AS REAL AS IT CAN GET.

DO NOT TRUST MEDS; trust ONLY IN JESUS CHRIST.

When you get clean (as per above), and appropriate the King's authority, even the demons must obey!

Yes, HE WILL REPAY. Come fully onboard with him and let him do the work for you. The victory is yours, so please come onboard.

I love Jesus Christ; he is my Saviour and my Lord. And I believe you are likewise. So WE are the true church - RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW.

AMEN !!! There is no other way!

You take your sin before the King!!! No "man in a box" to confess to; we have but one Confessor - Jesus Christ!!

Please, follow the steps above and let us know your progress.

whoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered (Joel 2:32)
good insight

@backNforth -- didn't know those things you listed were 'demons' that could be cast out.

Your admonition for a person to Not use / trust medication, but trust only in Jesus Christ. For people with certain types of diabetes -- insulin is needed for them to live. And asthma is another lung condition that requires meds.

You're tending to go Way overboard with your admonitions.

Your #4 is going Way out. The spirits of 'whatever' in your family line? You gave a long list of Possible things in your family tree that a person is supposed to forgive Unconditionally -- just in case?! Each person is responsible to God for their own sins and not of anyone elses' possible sins.

I think there is place for both, I realize what backnorth is saying as a pendulum swings to one end of this. But the opposite has been embraced by most christians in the dependence on MD and pills. So much so, the reliance on Jesus and God's kingdom is becoming irrelevant in this area of life. Sure, we pray in Jesus name, but how many believe the Lord enough to change their life.
Now, for lower income christian the new dependence will become the government for their substance as we see the pendulum swing towards it (in the usa). And again when it comes to money and how we get it Jesus and God's kingdom is becoming irrelevant. There are fewer and fewer people that put in a honest hard day's work earning what they recieve knowing what they are doing is on to the Lord. I guess the bottom line is it doesn't make a difference what I think we have enter a time of reckoning where a giving of an account is going to be required before we head into judgement, God will sort it out. And it is just something to keep in mind while we are pursuing Jesus and our life we are living. So if backnorth challenges our thinking about this it is good to ask ourselves where are we at and what do we think about this. Thank you Sue D. for sharing too

Going back to the opening question. Christians with schizophrenia or Any mental illness. The need for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Medical doctors are Very important to society / people. As well as medications being prescribed. There are lots of born again believers who are doctors / surgeons.

It's almost like saying that if a person is involved in a car accident and has injuries requiring hospital care / surgery, that the 'real' answer is Only to pray for God's healing -- to refuse help.

And there Have been situations when a patient is conscious and does refuse help. They are required to sign paper work stating they refused treatment and they have to be let go.

It is Not a sign of weakness in a person's life, to have illnesses that need treatment -- medication and for extended periods of time. Having said that -- there Are times that a person's life-style contributes To illness / disease.

I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia for about a year now. I'm prescribed pills for this disorder.
But some of the symptoms are still there even when sedated on "antipsychotic medications"... For a couple of years now I've been paranoid that the whole world is secretly watching me, either through my phone, or a secret microchip implant, or hidden software(bugs) in my house.
The people I get paranoid about watching me and stuff are everyone, not limited to even people with access to electronic devices.
I speculated this on and off again. Starting in August 2016 and I was diagnosed last December right before Christmas.
My symptoms include but are not limited to:

*Thinking people are watching me -started August 2016(that would make me famous)

* Me Thinking Im the antichrist- can't remember the exact time I started thinking this (but I don't match the Biblical description of the term)

* tactile hallucinations - Started feeling them late last year to early this year (tactile is me feeling something is touching me)

* me feeling like cars are talking to me when they make speeding sounds by passing by fast. (Weather its a hostile voice or it agrees with me)

*Me feeling like the sound airplanes make is someone talking to me(Weather its a hostile voice or it agrees with me)

* I hear little girl screams(since September 2019)

* Me feeling the imagery in my head is actually farting in my face (very recently)

*Me hearing a beeping sound that I hear every so often (it just popped up as I write this)

*Me thinking someone is plotting my death (the most recent date I heard is 2026)

That's all I could remember for the time being.

When I read up on websites about schizophrenia they show very relative traits I have with most schizophrenics... That is my base to believe that this is schizophrenia.

My question for people of my faith is this.

Who should I believe the thoughts in my head-- or the doctors?
Have any of you been stalking me?-
(I can't give my address for security purposes)

What is your personal opinion on schizophrenia?

&

How informed are you about the daily struggle who have a diagnosed disorder such as this?
How do you help them if you do know someone? (Such as me)

Thank you and have a blessed day! <3
@RebornInChrist,

Hello there,

I have a grandson of 25 years, who has schizoaffective disorder, and is on the autistic spectrum, having had a psychotic episode in his last year at school. Medication brought side effects which led to the development of another condition called Dystonia too. These conditions have resulted in frequent hospitalization, and the need of medical help. He cannot be without medication.

He believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour and Lord, and I believe that on the day of resurrection, he will be raised, along with all who have placed their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord, and will receive a new body, a resurrection body, which will be perfectly whole. For his hope is not for this life only, but he has the hope of one to come, in which there will be no sickness or pain, or unkindness, but the lovingkindness of God in Christ Jesus will be his portion.

Please, @RebornInChrist, be careful whom you trust to advise you in regard to your medical condition on this forum or anywhere else. Seek medical help, and trust God. Be understanding of your parents, for they are only human, and therefore prone to fail, as we all are. They must love you, but are probably as unhappy and confused about it all as you yourself appear to be.

Bring your condition before the Lord in prayer, and ask Him to help you to make right choices: trust Him to supply all your need. Take responsibility upon yourself to do what is right. Seek medical help and advice yourself, don't leave it in the hands of another. Then take your medication and learn to manage your condition sensibly. Keep your feet firmly on the ground, and put one foot in front of another, live one day at a time, and concentrate on getting and staying well. Keep your mind stayed upon the Lord and His faithfulness, and commit your way to Him. You need not be a victim, you can overcome in Jesus Name.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

@RebornInChrist,

Dear Heavenly Father,
The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
In the name of your only Begotten Son, and our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, we bring this young man before you. We pray that you will have mercy upon him, and deliver him from the fear and confusion being engendered by his condition, and the seeming lack of guidance and support. You, Who know his heart, and know his circumstances and his condition better than any other, please deliver him and bring him into a place of confidence and peace, born of the assurance that he is receiving the medical help necessary, and the support of those who understand his condition and can best advise him.

May your perfect will be done in Him for Your Name and glory's sake. May his parents be helped, and find the support they need to best help and support him, and in so doing come to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ too, that all three may look towards that future hope of life in Christ Jesus, which is assured to all who have sought the salvation from sin that is in and through your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

May he place his trust in You as his Saviour and Lord, and rejoice in the certainty that you will not leave Him comfortless, that you will place His feet on solid ground, and cause him to walk uprightly, as one who is truly born from above.

In your mercy, your love and grace, please meet this young man's need, and secure him medically and spiritually we pray. Thanking you in anticipation, in the knowledge that you will not fail to save to the uttermost those who come to you, through your Beloved Son. May he be enabled to draw on your strength, and find help in this time of need.

We ask this in the Name of Christ Jesus,
Our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.
Amen

What is the widely agreed upon view of Christians with schizophrenia?

The all have visions, and they are a "peculiar" people chosen by GOD! With strong christian views. and hear voices.

Do you follow a specific diet? Diet and schizophrenia are linked.

@RebornInChrist -- is it safe to assume that you're shared all of those symptoms with your Dr.

We're not Dr's -- you'd been scheduled for an appointment some time back -- what did he / she say? Maybe what Would be helpful is to check yourself into a mental health facility.

it would seem to me, it is a common and everyday thing for people to go to a doctor when they have ailments in a "develop world". But when one comes to a "faith base" forum he or she is seeking something that might be outside of the natural world. For another's advice. Especially those that have strong relationship with Jesus Christ their Lord and savior.
