What to do with old video games?

of course you do as you are convicted to act.

God bless you

I stumbled across a video about a Christian playing games with witchcraft in them: (WoW & Skyrim).. And the guy mentioned those two verses, which I could relate to a whole lot with my current situation. And thanks jari, God bless you too.

I only know the Lesson of Balaam to well Brother. I have cost myself, my health in areas for "Needing to pray more about it, and hoping for some compromise."

When we have a direction, conviction, conscience about something, it's not the time to pray, but to act and be firm. Praying about it is dangerous.

God is more than able to get us on track if needed, but not if we ignore the main way he speaks to us, through our own heart and conscience.

I wrote a bible study about this very subject...... It goes into some details.

Jesus Is Lord.

Thanks for that Mike, I will give your bible study a read later. The Balaam story actually convicted me in several other areas of my life as well. Sometimes, I think I just let the enemy put fear into my heart, instead of trusting in God's grace, and boldly stepping forward for the appointed task. I'm not talking about the game dilemma here, but for other things. I wish I could just permanently rebuke this spirit of fear. God bless you man

Edit: I think sometimes we, as humans, try to logically analyze all our situations; instead of just trust that God's ways are higher than ours, and we really don't know what is best for us!

Just do it!!

God is certainly smarter, and has our best interest in heart.

As Mary said..............

Joh 2:5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

Certainly many of us would have asked.

"How's filling these things up with Water going to Help? We better seek God on this one."

How's putting this unsanitary Mud in my eyes going to help me see? Really now?

So, what you planing to do with those loaves and fishes? Ummm, we have some hungry people here and need to figure this out, not mess with that small basket of fish and bread.

That Land of Milk and Honey? Oh ya, it's there alright God, but just one thing, you overlooked those Giants.

Jesus Is Lord.

however witchcraft in video games is never same as real witchcraft.
and i consider it harmless it self in video games.

Happy you found resolution philosopher...keep following your convictions.

I think Satan is just trying to indoctrinate kids earlier and earlier with this magic stuff being harmless and perfectly ok. Think even about movies like Harry Potter which are all about casting spells and obscure occult sciences like divination etc. Many Christians will say: ''yeah, but it's all fiction and for fun'' - But personally, I think there is clear malicious intent and opens up the doors of curiousity to look deeper into this stuff.

Whilst writing this reply, the quote of the Psalmist David appeared in my mind-

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. - Psalm 101:3

There is also a video on Youtube about a former witch who was heavily involved in the occult and Satanism, who exposed Harry Potter as using many of the same principles, real witches do. So It's doubtful that JK. Rowling was completely unaware of the demonic influences in her literature.

fiction, fun, or death?

yes, we have to be on guard. Even things that seem harmless, can be harmful.

I use to watch those unsolved mysteries, and forensic science shows. I had a check about it, but I reasoned it all out.

1) Educational
2) Good to learn about crime fighting.
3) Might just have seen one of those missing people, or the bad guy to report in.
4) Nothing evil here, just good science.

However, when my wife was gone to long from the store, or away and I could not get a hold of her, fear started to set in, where fear had not been before. Fear is torment the bible says.

Soon, all these cases of missing people, abduction, and murder started to come into my mind about what could have happened to my wife.

I found myself pacing and looking constantly out the window for her to come back home.

I should have obeyed that check and my conscience when the Lord started to deal with me about watching those shows. I allowed something in, to contaminate my faith. It all seemed innocent enough.

Soon, I started to be controlling over my wife. I wanted to know where she was going, what time she gets back, I would call 10 times if she just ran to Walmart. (As if my calling and worry was saving her)

I think these are great shows, but not great for me.

Jesus Is Lord.

So, violence, cartoon Porn, would be bad as opposed to the practice of Magic?

i never said practise of magic wouldnt be bad.

I am not saying we are not at liberty, What may be fine for you, can cause someone else to stumble. So your comment about one being good, and not another should be between you and God..

also comment about something being bad should be between you and God.

i hope you understand......

God bless

I understand where you're coming from here. I used to watch a lot of those psychological thriller type of movies, and it would always leave me feeling particularly edgy after. Almost tricks your mind into thinking that everything is a conspiracy around you, and leads you away from the peace that God wants to abound in your heart.

I'm not a big fan of those types of shows honestly. However when I do watch them they have a "scare straight" effect on me. Mainly shows like law and order and CSI. Unsolved mysteries kind of scares the crap out of me, so i stay away from it lol.

I can relate directly though!

I watch medical shows or medical dramas. In these shows you get to witness sicknesses, illnesses, and even death. So you eventually get this idea that "hey, that could be me one day". That thought will scare anyone. I still watch them because I have grown to accept that these things are an unavoidable part of life. We will get sick. We will get old. We will die.

So to a person who cannot accept the unavoidable or who fears to, medical shows and dramas are devastating. However in my case, I do get worried sometimes, but I understand that it is a part of life. So in other words, it is okay for me to watch them, but not a good idea for the person who can not accept and develops paranoia or a life hindering fear.

I also speak directly about the medical stuff and not the drama in them either. When I watch I am vastly more devoted to the medical side than whether or not this person is making out with that person lol.

Ironic how we see fear bad from most things but if somethings suposed to be from God it doesnt matter if it scares you.
lot of christians use fear against each other....

just saying

Hi mate, I don't really think it's fear, moreso than a general awareness of things which could potentially be harmful in our Christian walk. We're supposed to: fear the Lord and depart from evil - Proverbs 3:7

Ok, before I became born again, I used to play a lot of really crude and violent video games, which were a huge idol for me. I've stopped playing them completely, as thankfully God had convicted me and showed me how destructive they could be. However, I still have them lurking around my house, and am at a crossroads on what to do with them...

A sledge hammer and some garbage bags came to my mind when I read this. Destroy them and don't get caught up in worrying about the money; trust God for your financial needs.

"Once I was young but now I am old, yet I've never seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging bread." (Ps 37:25)

Good idea and thanks for the scripture verse. They're actually sitting in a garbage bag right now, ready to be tossed out, but perhaps destroying them completely is the better option. Just in case someone rummages through it at the dump, and decided to salvage them. Now, let me check if my dad has a sledgehammer lying around!
