What version Bible do you read?

Mine's Today's English Version and Pastoral Bible Version..Pastora Bible explains the verses (it has footnotes with explanations) and Today's English Version is easy to understand..

I am interested in this version, does it describe all
the verses, or certain ones? And how detailed are
the footnotes?

If there is similarities (such as the parable of the sower for Matthew, Mark and Luke) sometimes it will give note such as "see...."..but most of the time there are some add-ons...

The footnotes explain some words with evangelical elaborations. Some of the footnotes explain what the verse means (usu. on Jesus' time) and some gives some everyday activities can be applied to it


Example of this is the parable of the wise servant...it explains there why God chose sinners most of the time and how their "worldly mind" was used in God's kingdom.

I use the KJV or NKJV. I do have other versions, but I don't use them very much. I got rid of all my NIV bibles...they distort the verses and change the meanings too much.

The owners and publishers of the corrupt NKJV (New King James Version), Thomas Nelson Publishers, have been bought out by Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp. and their subsidiary HarperCollins, publisher of the Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey. Now Murdoch owns the NKJV and the printing rights to the NIV, through Zondervan, which Murdoch bough in 1988! A private equity firm, Kohlberg and Company, acquired majority ownership of Nelson in 2010, setting the stage for this most recent Murdoch buyout. Now, practically every bible published in the U.S is under the control of Murdoch, a purveyor of erotica and the Satanic Bible.

The KJV 1611 has been, by far, the most edifying in my life. I had to once get it repaired, and so, for a weekend, I read the ESV which was lying around the house; and it felt spiritually dead in comparison.

If we ask God to guide us to His true Word, He will not lead us wrong. He will guide us to what He knows is best for our lives. There are so many corrupt books claiming to be of God, but in truth are meant to deceive us. Gotta be careful. I had some books I had for years and later learned they were deceiving, had to trash them.

I read KJV and have been for over 40 years. I find it easy to memorize because of its unique linguistics. The thee's and thou's seem to disappear, but the clarity of thought remains sharp.

After reading the results thus far, the KJV and the NIV are quite a bit above the others. The odd thing to me is the more accurate vrsions are the NASB and the ESV. For many years I preached from the NIV. In 1994 when the Updated NASB came out I gradually changed and now I use the NASB almost all the time. Some of the more literal pastors use the NASB, and one of our favorite preachers is Dr. Michael Youssef, and he uses the NIV and the NASB sometimes. Dr. Charles Stanley who I admire very much uses the NASB. There are some who preached only from the KJV, Dr. Adrian Rogers is one I deeply love, he has been with the Lord some time now.

Proberly the best version of the Bible is the one you will reas. That's all but the New World Translation that is a J.W. and a very distorted bible and best used to start wood fires.

With all the versions of the Bible today there is no excuse for not reading the Bible.

Different translations use different manuscripts. The older the manuscript the smaller (less content) which is the reason newer translations do not contain everything found in older bibles.

That being said, I love all the flavors of the bible and have read many different translations. As long as God speaks to me through them I am quite happy. Although some " parphrased versions" are not really bibles (like the Message) I still consider them a good read.

Some of my favorites:
KJV - gotta love my King Jimmy
Amplified Bible- rich and full flavored
NIV- simplistic, s\easy to understand, written on a 7th grade reading level
NASV- feels like an old friend.

I am currently reading Young's 1898 Literal Translation. Everytime I think it is not for me something pops up and grabs my spirit so I am going cover to cover with it.

I have every version on the list above except the NIV. I mostly read the NASB, I believe it to be the closest to the original Hebrew/Greek texts.

I have a few different versions

I have a few different versions...

I have the New Believers Bible which is in the New Living Translation. This one helps me a lot as it's a Bible for Newbie Christians like me!

I have an 83 year-old Bible that belonged to my grandmother and that version is the Douay Version...my father's side of the family are all Irish Catholics and from what I understand this is, essentially, a Catholic Bible.

I have the New King James Version-Prophecy Edition which helps me understand prophecy and how the books of the Bible correlate into the beautiful true story of God.

I have a miniature mini Bible I carry around in my purse which is another NLT version. I have just a regular NLT version that I take with to church and Bible study.

And finally, I have the New Testament as translated by The Message.

Whew! Yeah, I know, I may be overdoing it, but as a baby Christian, I'm trying to understand the Bible in any way I can.

I use the KJV because it was what I was raised with. When I have problems and need to keep Satan at bay, often verses from my childhood comes to mind. Reading the KJV is like talking to an old friend. I find Jesus in there and I am comforted and feel peace.

I read the NASB, I too believe it to be the closest to the original Hebrew/Greek texts.

I just picked up a copy of "The KJV Study Bible" from my local Bible shop today. I LOVE it! It's hard cover, with this nice subtle leaf pattern in gold across the cover (paper bound), with Christ's words in red and the Concordance at the back with color maps and everything. Lovely, AND portable! I find it more pleasing to read than the New Revised Standard Version copy I had before which I felt really simplified things to a degree where it didn't FEEL like the Bible anymore. It's still helpful to have a phrasing comparison when sifting through King James style on occasion, though. =P

Don't just read one type of Bible. Read them all
And also learn from others that understand WHY Jesus is called a "LAMB"... and a "LION"... and a "MAN"
The Bible is SYMBOLIC it is NOT LITERAL. Too many close minded preachers are ignorant about what symbols represent in the Bible.
Also study the Freemasons. They understand this sacred knowledge.
FWIW--- I have 6 different Bibles.

I always used the KJV because that was the first Bible I read as a new follower of Jesus in 1976 (I was Catholic prior to that but had never read a Bible.). When in later years I began to read the Bible in Spanish (Valera of 1960 and Antigua Revision of 1602) and German (Luther of 1522), I found that the KJV seemed to be closer grammatically to the Spanish and the German versions. Then again, while I may use many other English versions on occasion for study or comparison, I remain faithful to the original KJV.

My newest is Rotherham's Emphasized had it about 6 months and so far I like it.
